The Ming dynasty actually fought musketeers before, though not French ones. They were impressed by Portuguese muskets and cannons. However, they were unimpressed with the rapier(they called it a "soft sword"), claiming that a rapier armed man could be taken down with a spear.
Well....since the Ming dynasty had a really large armed force (Around 1 million) in its early period, it's impossible to equip everyone with those firearms and armor in here, apart from the elite unit. The Musketeers probable have more standardise equipment since they are a elite unit
lolololol i dont care if then french won... the musketerrs were the "elite gaurd of france" equiped with the "best of everything" and were the "kings personal gaurds" and 200 in number .... versus the 5 of 1 million (literally) of the Ming Dynasty's cannon fodder... and the Museteers only managed a 1.2 kill to death ratio... which means if the ancient chinese tried to conquest superior france ... the elite bodygaurd would all die and only manage to kill around 360 of the 1,000,000??? FAIL
I love how they just expect that the musketeers will pick up the mine-sword. He's like: "nah I don't want the weapons that are laying on the ground ..but OH THAT ONE IS SHINY!!!"
This episode is really a joke. There is no way a real Ming Warrior will make a war cry, making flashy moves and exposed himself to be shot. This only occurs in movies but not real life. The producer definitely watch too much kung fu films. I even think that the entire deadly warriors does not potray accurate pictures of the fighting skills and the weapons used. The simulaton is affected by the datas collected.
@MrLantean Likely a Ming Warrior wouldn't make war cries, too disciplined for that. Also mention that most warriors wouldn't drop their shields (my biggest pet peeve) in combat since that mean less protection. With better usage of the shield the Roman Centurion would have stood a better chance against a Rapjut as a Viking against a Samurai and the Celt had a bigger and thicker shield than a Persian Immortal.
More focus on the tactical use of a shield and nature of a fighter I say.
@nagaking07 The Great Wall was built as a final resort to stop the Mongol invaders. By the time the Ming Great Wall was built, the Ming warriors were among the best soldiers in the world due to the training of Ming General Qi Jiquang. It is impossible to defeat the nomadic Mongols as they could easily retreated into the steppe. Most of Ming warriors were infantry and China did not have enough horses for their soldiers. The wall was built to intercept them and prevents them from entering China.
Okay. The nest of bees was intentionally aimed away from the musketeers by the simulation. And the first casualty was caused by complete stupidity. The fight is supposed to be matchups of equipment, skill, and environment.
The musketeers were from a later era so they obviously had more advanced weapons. However, the way the last musketeer won is ridiculous.
Chinese elite infantry were trained to chop down charging horses. They'd have no problem slicing through a musketeer, no matter how skilled the latter is with his rapier :/
This would have been more convincing if the musketeers just sniped all the Ming soldiers with their Muskets -,-
yes, they can out-duel anyone else. but war isn't the same as duelling. especially when everyone's out for blood. Getting sliced apart is more crippling than getting stabbed. And slicing is what medieval Chinese infantry did with their swords, not the gentlemanly fencing match shown here which of course the musketeers are more skilled at XP
@Keiji555 Two duelling blades (one sword, one dagger) with handles designed to take an opponent's weapon at the same time could be important for victory.
@3baxcb I knew ninja would die against the Spartan from the start. I just like ninjas more. Gladiators were also duelists. They fought against each other to the death, and Knight can beat anyone. Spatan inlcuded. He just lost because the pirate had a gun. You must admit that was pretty cheap.
@DarkPrime120 The gun helped the pirate in the end did it not? A knight was prone to losing his senses and charging recklessly into battle which a Spartan hoplite would usually avoid.
@DarkPrime120 They should've matched the knight with the samurai. i'm willing to bet the hosts will give three draw advantages and the only thing that will make the samurai win would be the Yumi bow. The crossbow is easy to use, powerful, fast, but it takes hell lot of time to reload compared to a bow and arrow.
@StarSpawn06 actually, the time frame is not applicable. the Ming had access to the Musketeers weapons, cause if you did your research, you would see that there was a 20 year time frame that they lived at the same time.
The Musketeer practice fencing, which is one of the best sword on sword styles out there. The martial arts styles studied by the Ming were not made to use swords with them. And dont forget the Main Gauche. And cutting a Horse is different than cutting an expert swordsman.
I agree with most of your analysis ( including earlier comments ) :) Am watching the full ep now.
For now, I can only say that neither the Ming nor the Musketeer would have been limited to one distinct set of "Martial Arts". In the heat of battle, anything goes.
Also, the very reason the Chinese gave up using the fencing sword ( yes they do fence ) in war was that it did not have enough killing power.
Didn't European soldiers use sabres, falchions and glaives too ?
@StarSpawn06 Yup. Depending on the type of warrior (Knight, Musketeer, etc) they had a preference for different weapons. Yes, Fencing is more international. And they explain when they test the swords, why they took the specific swords.
The Musketeer wanted to hit above all else. The Ming prefered variety. Both are effective, and both are good. The main difference is the Rapier specialises in a couple areas of swordsmanship. And yet, they gave preference to the Dao.
@StarSpawn06 Yeah. pretty much. And it feels good to show that my French roots aren't all pathetic, as many claim they are.
I would have personally given the edge to the three barrelled gun, rather than the Wheel lock Pistol, but meh. Nothing we can do about it now.
People comment that it should be called Deadliest weapons, and not warriors, cause no tactics are employed... but if you think about it, you can tell a lot about how a warrior thinks, by taking a look at the weapons.
Actually a Ming soldier had muskets too, which was why I thought it was a bad match. Except the rapier, everything the Musketeer had, the Ming soldiers historically had too(grenades, musket with bayonet, wheelock firearm), although their muskets didn't have the flintlock mechanism. Historically, the army of the late Ming could be very similar to a musketeer based army. The match would be like saying "British redcoat vs Musketeer". The former are musketeers too!
@StarSpawn06 d main thing izz dat ming dynasty n other chinese WARRIORS WERE brilliant in dere technique bt in this show how ming warrior had lost his lyf.????..WHILE FYTIN' WID A SWORD...
@DarkPrime120 Gladiator was a athlete, Ninja was an assassin and hit and run fighter while the Knight was a duellist. None of those are effective against a warrior trained to kill, except for a Knight as long as he kept himself focused and not in a vain dash for glory.
to think... that the ming actually invented gun powder and it wasn't until the ming empire fell down that the french finally got their hands on the guns... and to think, that the ming were peasents and the french we're highly trained one by one for the king? Go get 5 expert ming warriors and see what happens
@ThePivotanims China had been using gun powder in wars since the 10th century. They had grenades, land mines, sea minds, rocket arrow, hand cannons and many others. Gun power may have been invented independently in Europe or appeard after Mongol invasion. Ming garrisons along the Great Wall used cannons to fend off Mongol invaders.
I find it funny how a lot of people mentions the Ming Warrior having martial arts, and doesnt have the thought process to figure out that the musketeer had martial arts as well. Its called Fencing. and since most Ming were peasants, it would be impossible to train 3 million soldiers the perfected Martial Arts, unless they raise their young like Sparta. But since Ming China didnt... well... That's too bad. I guess for this matchup, the overall Martial Arts superior trained is the musketeer.
@Keiji555 The problem with this episode is that they gave the Ming Warriors a somewhat questionable arsenal of weapons(the Ming Dyntasy used Muskets since the 14th century, plus their armour was VERY poorly done). Deadliest Warrior does not consider Martial arts as their results are done by a computer program. Plus the use of the chestplate by the musketeers is wrong.
@TeHGoodReverend Yeah... I tend to agree with that... Especially for the Nest of Bees. It was a weapon used for large armies, and to wittle down the enemy. In a one on one (or even a five on five) battle, the Nest of Bees is practically useless. not to say it wont occasionally hit... just too random a weapon.
I did make the comment about the Musketeer martial arts, since Im getting fed up with people thinking only China, Japan and Korea were the only contries with Martial arts.
@Keiji555 1. Deadliest Warrior has a horrible trend of testing what's "cool" as opposed to what's practical, it annoys me and has led to several warriors being defeated unfairly. Plus the Dao they tested is a MA Dao, not a war Dao...
Europe has martial arts too sadly they are lesser known as Asian martial arts , and also have died throught history Asian MA tend to be more preserved, like Kung Fu, or Kenjutsu are the centre of many hollywood movies, whereas Savate(French) are almost unknown.
@TeHGoodReverend Any European Martial art died when Rome fell and 800 years of the "Dark Ages" ensued. ALSO, the "Dark Ages" aren't actually the dark ages of the world. That period can be noted as actually the GOLDEN AGE OF ISLAM, where more technology was developed than the Greek and Roman times combined. European culture was only preserved by the Muslims. Without the Muslims preserving the culture, european society wouldn't even EXIST.
@youngstunna79 Actually, Fencing was practiced after the Dark Ages... So this argument isn't really valid. (As Fencing and similar European Martial Arts were heavily used, especially in duels in the Renaissance and afterwards)
@youngstunna79 Actually the foundation of Western European civilization is not only preserved by the Muslims. It is also preserved by the eastern half of the Roman Empire known as the Byzantine Empire. Western Europe fell into the hands of Germanic tribes who carved out their own kingdoms. The Byzantine Empire also suffered invasions by the barbarians but they managed to recovered. The Muslims were exposed to Greco-Roman knowledge when they captured Egypt and Palestine from the Byzantines.
@MrLantean Dude I don't even know what you are talking about. The Byzantine Empire was the last of the western european power. It was taken over by the Muslims and in 600 AD the onset of the "Dark Ages" (800 years), which is actually the "Golden Age of Islam", where more technology was developed than the Greek and Roman times combined. The reference of "Dark Ages" is actually an inaccurate and eurocentric view of the world. I only learned this when I went to college.
@youngstunna79 The Byzantine Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire except its capital was Constantinople its domain was the lower Balkans and Anatolia. It fell into the Ottoman Turks in 1453 when they captured Constantinople. From the book 'Byzantium' by Judith Herrin, the Byzantines also made progress in science and technology. Byzantine books were translated into Arabic and Arabic books were translated into Greek. They shared and improved every knowledge available.
@youngstunna79 The Dark Ages was coined during the Renaissance to describe the era between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance. Now the term is replaced with Medieval Period. Only Western Europe suffered the fall of civilization. Eastern Europe was spared as the Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) was still in control and it thrived over the centuries. That's why Eastern European culture has strong Byzantine cultural tradition.
If you really want to go back, the foundation of western european culture actually derived from the Mesopotamia/Babylonians. The astronomy that Aristotle and the famous western philosophers were influenced by the Babylonians. European history is fake in the U.S.
Also, the Mongol Empire was 4 times larger than the Roman Empire. China also had the highest per capita G.D.P. for 18 of the last 20 centuries.
The reason why China has 1.4 billion people is because China was the largest empire in the world. Imagine Europe as one country 731 million people. China is also growing by 400 billion a year (nominal), 650 billion (PPP). China has a 200 billion dollar trade surplus and the U.S. has a 500 billion dollar deficit (thanks too much freedom of trade). China will double its economy in 10 years and triple it in 15 years. They will eventually be again the center of technology.
I learned in college that I was taught all my life eurocentric bullshit. Copernicus did not discover the solar system it was discovered by a Muslim. Calculus was not discovered by Issac Newton, Calculus is as old as the Egyptians. The foundation of Modern society was developed mostly by Middle Easterns, China and India. Even Christianity is Middle Eastern. The original Christians lived in Assyria and are brown. Europe was like how Africa is now, but for 800 years.
800 years of no progress is pretty bad. That's like. Also, even Greco-Roman wrestling is fake. Modern "Greco-Roman" originated from France in the form of a show for entertainment. Jujitsu grappling techniques also originated in China not Japan as Chinese call it Chin Na. Japan also produces more technology than all of Europe. The Downfall of China is when it became communist and adopted communist policies. They are only recently becoming more democratic and you can see the impact they
the Downfall of China began when Chinese schools started placing less emphasis on science from the 14th century onwards.
Chinese rulers also tended to kill their own generals out of paranoia, causing the Chinese to lose several wars despite their vast resources. The government then mistakenly believed that military development was pointless, and the vicious cycle continued ...
China was about to become democratic after 1911, but once again our leaders ruined it :/
@StarSpawn06 ya, I recently read about that. Anyway, China is actually becoming more democratic in its economic policies, but of course still have the communist characteristics for its political system. China will eventually be again the center of the world's technology. China just recently announced the building of the most powerful computer in the world 25 petaflops. Faster than the U.S. supercomputer by 40%. I see China becoming eventually a gigantic Hong Kong.
@TeHGoodReverend It was probably chosen by the Ming Martial Artist rep (Man that guy is arrogant...) Or it may have been chosen by whoever chooses the weapons off air (I could understand that they can't test every single weapon... sometimes the show would never end)
Well, As much as Asian MA are more preserved, there are a large number of European MA that are still well preserved. Fencing being one of them. It evolved since it came into existence (As can be expected of any MA)
@TeHGoodReverend Also, Wrestling is also descended from the Greeks. (Yes, Wrestling is a form of MA) Stickfighting is another example.
In conclusion, I will have to half agree, and half respectfully disagree. There are some European that survived through the ages, and are still strong and respected, but compared to the Asian MA, it is true that they are practically not known and forgotten.
@Keiji555 A person has to be physically fit to learn martial arts. Martia arts were part of military training as close quarter combats were common fought. Chinese peasants had worked in the rice fields since young and they were physically prepared for military training. They trained everyday in military camps to practice their fighting skills. At least they had enough training to protect themselves and fend off enemy attacks.
@MrLantean But the same can be said about the Frenchmen. One doesn't need to be physically fit to learn martial arts though. And by the logic of working in the fields, any frenchman or frenchwoman would be fit for military duties as well. and again since young as well. So by that logic, the french had the training as well. As stated, the higher the ranking, the earlier you start your training. And not everyone would be at the same level.
@MrLantean For emergency situations, 3-6 months of training tops before being sent to the front lines, so training would not be complete in the martial arts. There would be approximately beginner to average training of martial arts. That logic can be used for any drafted military. But not everyone would be at the same level. and not everyone worked on a farm. so with your arguments, the same can be said to describe the french... so the arguments presented arent really valid, are they?
@bart3tears so the musketeers cant fight and dress in women's clothes... according to your remark... what does that say about the ming warrior? They lost to that...
French are the worst army whatsoever, pathetic lousy scum eating SNAILS AND FROGS off the FLOOR! What kind of country eats insects? It's wrong and uncivillised.
F34r0r:
You like the snail-eating, frog-leg consuming gay French? Well just remember who conquered a third of the world, yeah? Just remember who defeated the French multiple times...
I still think the French will win, but they totally downplayed the creativity of the Ming warrior. Knowing that they are tech disadvantaged, the Ming will ramp up their arrow capacity to a maximum of 100, increase their explosiveness of the arrows so they blow up in their face (Chinese determine their formulas dependent on the scenario e.g. flame thrower and bomb) and decrease the fuse time, because of the close proximity fighting to increase the fuel consumption of the combustion.
@B08635J Ah, but this was all improvisation. All of the warriors on this show have no idea that they will be fighting a warrior they have never fought before. It all came down to the weapons.
I felt the ming warriors should have won because their weapons were quicker to deploy and almost every weapon the musketeers used took too long to reload.
@BustaMonkey1234 ahh but then if they have a good gun then being good hand to hand won't help you much the simulation at the end is not the source of the result the computer generates who wins out of 1000 battles the battle at the end is only something extra for us to enjoy
@narutoVscloud They didnt have time to reload and the wheel-lock pistol misfired in the end. I wonder why the Mings didnt double team that last guy...
@narutoVscloud dude why did you delete the other episode of deadliest warrior? like the ira vs spetsnaz spartan vs samurai swat vs gsg9 aztec jaguar vs zande warrior somali pirate vs drug cartel and others from season 2 can you please put it back the one you delete im asking nicely oh and navy seals vs israeli commando can you put it on youtube?
@BustaMonkey1234 They didnt even factor in their martial-arts skills. If they had put that in, then the Ming Warriors would have went kung-fu on them...
@BustaMonkey1234 they were not using there hands they were holding swords, and even then the musketeers are better swordsman by far, and i bet you will disagree with me, but thats ok

Like this would really happen....
In real, the Musketeers would've lined up for shooting, and probably all had a hit,
So that's all the Ming soldiers down or wounded already.
Then, they have their sidearms loaded so they can head-shot survivors.
Ming cannot win this battle lol only if the Musketeers really lack to pay attention and let them come close

ThePivotanims 1 year ago

Keiji555 1 year ago
@Keiji555 The problem with this episode is that they gave the Ming Warriors a somewhat questionable arsenal of weapons(the Ming Dyntasy used Muskets since the 14th century, plus their armour was VERY poorly done). Deadliest Warrior does not consider Martial arts as their results are done by a computer program. Plus the use of the chestplate by the musketeers is wrong.
TeHGoodReverend 1 year ago
@TeHGoodReverend Yeah... I tend to agree with that... Especially for the Nest of Bees. It was a weapon used for large armies, and to wittle down the enemy. In a one on one (or even a five on five) battle, the Nest of Bees is practically useless. not to say it wont occasionally hit... just too random a weapon.
I did make the comment about the Musketeer martial arts, since Im getting fed up with people thinking only China, Japan and Korea were the only contries with Martial arts.
Keiji555 1 year ago
@Keiji555 1. Deadliest Warrior has a horrible trend of testing what's "cool" as opposed to what's practical, it annoys me and has led to several warriors being defeated unfairly. Plus the Dao they tested is a MA Dao, not a war Dao...
Europe has martial arts too sadly they are lesser known as Asian martial arts , and also have died throught history Asian MA tend to be more preserved, like Kung Fu, or Kenjutsu are the centre of many hollywood movies, whereas Savate(French) are almost unknown.
TeHGoodReverend 1 year ago
@TeHGoodReverend Any European Martial art died when Rome fell and 800 years of the "Dark Ages" ensued. ALSO, the "Dark Ages" aren't actually the dark ages of the world. That period can be noted as actually the GOLDEN AGE OF ISLAM, where more technology was developed than the Greek and Roman times combined. European culture was only preserved by the Muslims. Without the Muslims preserving the culture, european society wouldn't even EXIST.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
@youngstunna79 Actually, Fencing was practiced after the Dark Ages... So this argument isn't really valid. (As Fencing and similar European Martial Arts were heavily used, especially in duels in the Renaissance and afterwards)
Keiji555 1 year ago
@youngstunna79 Actually the foundation of Western European civilization is not only preserved by the Muslims. It is also preserved by the eastern half of the Roman Empire known as the Byzantine Empire. Western Europe fell into the hands of Germanic tribes who carved out their own kingdoms. The Byzantine Empire also suffered invasions by the barbarians but they managed to recovered. The Muslims were exposed to Greco-Roman knowledge when they captured Egypt and Palestine from the Byzantines.
MrLantean 1 year ago
@MrLantean Dude I don't even know what you are talking about. The Byzantine Empire was the last of the western european power. It was taken over by the Muslims and in 600 AD the onset of the "Dark Ages" (800 years), which is actually the "Golden Age of Islam", where more technology was developed than the Greek and Roman times combined. The reference of "Dark Ages" is actually an inaccurate and eurocentric view of the world. I only learned this when I went to college.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
@youngstunna79 The Byzantine Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire except its capital was Constantinople its domain was the lower Balkans and Anatolia. It fell into the Ottoman Turks in 1453 when they captured Constantinople. From the book 'Byzantium' by Judith Herrin, the Byzantines also made progress in science and technology. Byzantine books were translated into Arabic and Arabic books were translated into Greek. They shared and improved every knowledge available.
MrLantean 1 year ago
@youngstunna79 The Dark Ages was coined during the Renaissance to describe the era between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance. Now the term is replaced with Medieval Period. Only Western Europe suffered the fall of civilization. Eastern Europe was spared as the Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) was still in control and it thrived over the centuries. That's why Eastern European culture has strong Byzantine cultural tradition.
MrLantean 1 year ago
If you really want to go back, the foundation of western european culture actually derived from the Mesopotamia/Babylonians. The astronomy that Aristotle and the famous western philosophers were influenced by the Babylonians. European history is fake in the U.S.
Also, the Mongol Empire was 4 times larger than the Roman Empire. China also had the highest per capita G.D.P. for 18 of the last 20 centuries.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
The reason why China has 1.4 billion people is because China was the largest empire in the world. Imagine Europe as one country 731 million people. China is also growing by 400 billion a year (nominal), 650 billion (PPP). China has a 200 billion dollar trade surplus and the U.S. has a 500 billion dollar deficit (thanks too much freedom of trade). China will double its economy in 10 years and triple it in 15 years. They will eventually be again the center of technology.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
I learned in college that I was taught all my life eurocentric bullshit. Copernicus did not discover the solar system it was discovered by a Muslim. Calculus was not discovered by Issac Newton, Calculus is as old as the Egyptians. The foundation of Modern society was developed mostly by Middle Easterns, China and India. Even Christianity is Middle Eastern. The original Christians lived in Assyria and are brown. Europe was like how Africa is now, but for 800 years.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
800 years of no progress is pretty bad. That's like. Also, even Greco-Roman wrestling is fake. Modern "Greco-Roman" originated from France in the form of a show for entertainment. Jujitsu grappling techniques also originated in China not Japan as Chinese call it Chin Na. Japan also produces more technology than all of Europe. The Downfall of China is when it became communist and adopted communist policies. They are only recently becoming more democratic and you can see the impact they
youngstunna79 1 year ago
@youngstunna79
the Downfall of China began when Chinese schools started placing less emphasis on science from the 14th century onwards.
Chinese rulers also tended to kill their own generals out of paranoia, causing the Chinese to lose several wars despite their vast resources. The government then mistakenly believed that military development was pointless, and the vicious cycle continued ...
China was about to become democratic after 1911, but once again our leaders ruined it :/
StarSpawn06 1 year ago
@StarSpawn06 ya, I recently read about that. Anyway, China is actually becoming more democratic in its economic policies, but of course still have the communist characteristics for its political system. China will eventually be again the center of the world's technology. China just recently announced the building of the most powerful computer in the world 25 petaflops. Faster than the U.S. supercomputer by 40%. I see China becoming eventually a gigantic Hong Kong.
youngstunna79 1 year ago
@TeHGoodReverend It was probably chosen by the Ming Martial Artist rep (Man that guy is arrogant...) Or it may have been chosen by whoever chooses the weapons off air (I could understand that they can't test every single weapon... sometimes the show would never end)
Well, As much as Asian MA are more preserved, there are a large number of European MA that are still well preserved. Fencing being one of them. It evolved since it came into existence (As can be expected of any MA)
Keiji555 1 year ago
@Keiji555 Don't forget boxing too :).
TeHGoodReverend 1 year ago
@TeHGoodReverend hehehe. Of course. how can I forget! Gives you an extra attack per melee... woops... not Palladium rpg game... hehe...
Keiji555 1 year ago
@TeHGoodReverend Also, Wrestling is also descended from the Greeks. (Yes, Wrestling is a form of MA) Stickfighting is another example.
In conclusion, I will have to half agree, and half respectfully disagree. There are some European that survived through the ages, and are still strong and respected, but compared to the Asian MA, it is true that they are practically not known and forgotten.
Keiji555 1 year ago
@Keiji555 A person has to be physically fit to learn martial arts. Martia arts were part of military training as close quarter combats were common fought. Chinese peasants had worked in the rice fields since young and they were physically prepared for military training. They trained everyday in military camps to practice their fighting skills. At least they had enough training to protect themselves and fend off enemy attacks.
MrLantean 1 year ago
@MrLantean But the same can be said about the Frenchmen. One doesn't need to be physically fit to learn martial arts though. And by the logic of working in the fields, any frenchman or frenchwoman would be fit for military duties as well. and again since young as well. So by that logic, the french had the training as well. As stated, the higher the ranking, the earlier you start your training. And not everyone would be at the same level.
Keiji555 1 year ago
@MrLantean For emergency situations, 3-6 months of training tops before being sent to the front lines, so training would not be complete in the martial arts. There would be approximately beginner to average training of martial arts. That logic can be used for any drafted military. But not everyone would be at the same level. and not everyone worked on a farm. so with your arguments, the same can be said to describe the french... so the arguments presented arent really valid, are they?

avatarspirit57 1 year ago
OMG....
B08635J 1 year ago
@B08635J Ah, but this was all improvisation. All of the warriors on this show have no idea that they will be fighting a warrior they have never fought before. It all came down to the weapons.
