@Silverspring777 are you being sarcastic? Sometimes it's hard to tell online. They definitely are not hard to find, more than you can handle, nos,new production of all brands.
I have to ask... THis is the same price as a Deluxe Reverb Ri -- Seemingly Channel one based on the DR.. with the Burn Channel offing tons of grinding tones... Why don't we see these everywhere out there.. ? Seems like a great deal
Question Gearmmandude ! What's your all time favorite Blues amp ? Think BB King , Muddy Waters , Gary Moore style . The softer side of Blues . Old school but early electric .
Have this amp in sea foam green. Just love it. First decent amp I have owned since I was a kid and had an old Fender Reverb which cost 50 bucks used at the time. Same amp would go for God knows how much now.
a 15watt tube amp is plenty to be heard over a drummer, even a tiddly 6watter can work in the right situation/space. This is a significantly louder 22watts.
own this amp, the surf green one, changed the tubes love it alot
btw this isnt jack black, he demos all this stuff cuz he works at guitar emporium, the one about 15 minutes from my house btw, you guys should try the time bomb boost and luther drive also very nice pedals and very nicely priced
@Phishboy26 I can only assume you are a Phish fan, and if I'm right presumably a Trey Anastasio fan. The same Trey who has rocked a blackface Deluxe REVERB for many years now. Do you honestly have any idea what you are talking about?
Nice demo. Very thorough coverage of this amp's capabilities. I bought the original 60watt head (Vibro/Bassman version) and run it through an Avatar Vintage 2x12 with Celestion Heritage speakers. This heads sounds massive and has plenty of power. The burn channel took a little getting used to, but the EQ is nice and wide. This demo shows the amp with a Strat, but a Tele sounds great and with a little EQ change, my Les Paul roards through this amp. one of Fender's best amps in years!
@kelljm Wow thats articulate of you. The guys demo sucks because all you have is a motionless visual with a rather pointless sound review. if you want a good review, check out the one for laney's vc30.
The clean sound definitely needed to be set in the Fat mode but I would suspect that it would work fine in Normal mode with a Les Paul ;) The Burn channel doesn't offer that much of a diversity though, all the way cranked up it can only do arena metal :/ Yet I must admit that it cleans up almost perfectly just by rolling down the volume knob on the guitar! By the way, is it just me or does anybody else also hear a woman's moan towards the end for just like one second there? :D
I recently bought one of these. I play funk/jazz. I only use the clean tone. I love it, def loud enough for small/med size gigs. the fat tone is some times too much (too bright). Great amp for the price, reverb is good I believe its spring. I never use the burn channel
Gearmandude - how do you bias this amp? Is it self biasing or does it have a bias pot inside?
Man, I really love the tone this amp has. I've been struggling to find one that's not deafening, but has some snap and snarl. I've got a Gretsch Jet with a TV Jones Classic Plus pickup for the bridge. Do you think I can get Malcolm Young's tone or in the ballpark with this amp?
Does the burn channel get too hairy or fizzy? Or does it remain snappy and tight like that? Thanks.
@bongerbob I would think you're probably better off with some sort of small-ish tube driven Marshall combo in the 20-50 watt range, with EL84 or EL34 tubes. I had an old Marshall JTM30 30 watt 1x12 combo with master volume that absolutely nailed Zeppelin and AC/DC tones. It isn't a reliable amp, but there are other Marshall combos that do the trick. Make sure it has a master volume though. Even the 5 watt Marshall Class 5 is quite loud at levels high enough for overdrive.
@ericthespaniard if you bought the head version, then it was not this amp because the 22 only comes in a combo. Have you heard the 22 in a live setting? Too many people comment on this amp thinking it is the same as the previous SS or the 60 watt version
Whats your stance on what the guy below me said GMD? Have you played with a drummer and bass player with this thing? If it doesn't cut through the mix could you tell me a simliar (features and price) amp or two that would?
This amp (super sonic) is like playing through a line6 pos. In your room it sounds amazing. You take it to band practice and it doesn't cut through the mix AT ALL. It is muddy, ugly sounding and it will make your band sound bad. Again, in your room it sounds amazing, and maybe in the bathroom as well. With a drum set and another guitar player playing trough a semi decent amp, it will vanish. I bought the head version. I sold it the following week. Biggest disappointment ever.
I think this might be one of the best sounding and most practical amps I've ever seen. It'd sound great running through a British-voiced 2x12 along with the stock speaker, yes?
Hi i was wondering if this amp could be used as a practice amp as well as a concert amp? I live in a house with a few roomates so it cant be too loud. But some loudness wont hurt. =)
@fipfapfallywap well obviously marshall tube amps. but, i did just buy the super sonic 60, now this amp will give marshall a run for the money. but any other fender tube amp, no dice.
@fipfapfallywap haha, thats a hard one. i my opinion i don't really care for Mesa Boogie that much, they're great, but not my thing, except... i think the "Mark Five" is the best amp on the market, i just don't have $2000 for the head, and the extra $600 for a cabinet. all my favorite bands use Marshall's, they're just a rock amp icon thats just happens to a lot of ass as well :D
Is the clean preamp in the 22 the same as the 60 watt? The 60 has vibrolux/bassman voicing as opposed to normal/fat in the 60. This sounds more like a blackface deluxe than my 60 watt. The vibrolux is almost too bright.
Did you notice cabinet rattle with this model? Not so much at low volumes but when you start to wind it up? I know most amps have a spot or a note where they will buzz a bit but I heard these rattle a lot?
Not the best demo. Too much talk. everyone knows the features/specs and can find it easily at Fender. In 13 minute demo, you never turned the amp up to show how it could perform at gig volumes. The volume remained at 4 on both channels. why? Not once did you show how the clean break up is, or how tight the drive channel stays. It's like taking a car for a test drive in a school zone.
@stratthead I kinda agree other than the fact that at most gigs the amps are miced such as they are in this video so the volume can be at whatever he would want for his personal tone and the sound man can just turn up his signal through the PA, Other than that, I agree with you.
Awesome amp i was on Guitar Centers site saw this amp and didnt see the price untill i heard from this vid how nice it sounds then i check the price and GOD DAMNIT its $999.99 shit. oh well thanks man
Have Fender send you a SS 60 watt to do a review on. That one has the Celestron Vintage 30 speaker. Maybe a comparison against the Peavey Classic would be a good idea also.
@hawg427 There is no comparison. The Fender wins hands down. I had a choice to buy either amp, and got the Fender. The Peavey is good, but that's comparing a Ford to a Mercedes Benz. Both do the job, but the Fender SS 60W is blowing all my pro muso friends away. They can't believe what you can do with the amp, and these are guys ranging from jazz, blues, roots, C&W and rock. It's the amp for me!
Tone wise, which do you think sounds better, the Supersonic or the Hot Rod Deluxe III? Are there any differences between the Super Sonic 60 and the 22 you demo'd?
what would you suggest a used Super sonic (old version with celestionspeaker, with vibrolux and bassman channels) or a new supersonic 22 the one reviewed here.
@etguitar18 Those are such different amps. Both great, though. The JVM series doesn't really sound vintage Marshall, btw, it's a modern sound with some vintage-vibe settings.
I hafta say Fender have really lifted their game the last few years. Always quality gear (cept for the 90's red knobs, IMO anyway...), but they seem to have finally worked out how to make good overdrive thru the amp...

Gearman...DUDE, While this thing sounds superb and has plenty of volume,
I sure wish you would have mentioned a few things before I bought it!
First, in order to change tubes, you have to REMOVE THE SPEAKER.
Then, no-one mentioned that the baffle board is GLUED IN!
Lastly, your choice of replacement speakers is VERY limited due to
almost no space back there.

Hey man.. great demo...
I am contemplating this OR a DR.Z carmen ghia or maz jr..
I have played both the Super Sonic 22 and the maz for several hours and really like the tones of both,
HOWever, i found the super sonic to be MUCH more comfortable to play in that the attack was not as immediate as on the Z which was very unforgiving.
It might have had to do with the fact that I was able to run the Super Sonic a lot louder than the Z.
Whats your take on this as you have both ?
Thanks

@cville57 I'm trying to figure that out also. I haven't found any info on whether the amp is made in U.S.A. or Mexico.

what would you suggest a used Super sonic (old version with celestionspeaker, with vibrolux and bassman channels) or a new supersonic 22 the one reviewed here.

Nice review. This amp sounds great on here. If didn't already own a Blues Deluxe RI, I'd think about getting one.

At 3:08, you can almost hear the words in his mind as he adds in the reverb!

Fender Supersonic or Marshall JVM?
etguitar18 1 year ago
@etguitar18 Those are such different amps. Both great, though. The JVM series doesn't really sound vintage Marshall, btw, it's a modern sound with some vintage-vibe settings.

how loud does this get

I hafta say Fender have really lifted their game the last few years. Always quality gear (cept for the 90's red knobs, IMO anyway...), but they seem to have finally worked out how to make good overdrive thru the amp...
