  • The cover from Arch enemy is better

  • one of my favorite of Kiss's songs :D

  • Best heavy metal song ever!

  • KISS show us all their greatness as a band in this album......

  • Comment removed

  • This was a fucking badass "concept album". Fuck Rolling Stone for trashing this album. We need more imaginative albums like this.

  • I like this album so much :D Its one of the best

  • the Elder is pretty good, people look at it as a low moment in KISS history, but there are plenty more than this

  • ACE AND ERIC R AWESOME

  • THIS IS THE DOORWAY TO ROCK N ROLL

  • Personally The Elder is one of my favorites.

  • I agree there are lots of great songs on this album. I think the timing was all wrong for them when they released this. 1979 to around 1983 was a tough time for KISS. If they would have released this in 1976 or 77 it would have worked better. Ace put it nicely in his book "The Elder was a good album just not a good KISS album."

  • is this video meant for this song??

  • @krollaostmedburger there was never a " video" for this song. a world without heroes is the only official video from the elder.

  • Your glory, I swear I ride for thee

Your power, I trust it rides with me

Your servant, I am and ever shall I be

  • I loved this song the very first time I heard it (1981) and I thought the album was amazing. I was surprised to find out that it wasn't accepted by other Kiss fans.

  • Love the music, but the vocal duties should have been split more evenly between Gene and Paul. I can also do without the purple headband and the concord grape necklace.

  • I wish they would play this song just once at a kiss concert .

  • I'm not a huge KISS enthusiast, but when I hear this song, I can't help but think about an opportunity missed. Although KISS wrote some great straightforward rock songs, they never struck me as complexly talented or diverse musicians. However, after sampling The Elder for the first time, it seems they were standing on the precipice of progressive rock greatness. However, their audience insatiable desire for cheesy and shallow rock in the 80's diverted them away from could have been.

  • @AR485 KISS were a Teeny Bopper band back then regularly appearing in Tiger Beat and other magazines that feature Justin Bieber today. Imagine the Monkees writing material that would have fit with the material Jimi Hendrix wrote (who Hendrix backed them up and was booed off stage) The Elder is one of the greatest progressive metal/hard rock recordings ever. Needs to be played today by Kiss (without makeup) to be really appreciated

  • @smscamp No doubt, KISS was all about the marketing angle back in the day, but they still made some great rock songs early in their career. I just think if they had chosen to take themselves a little more seriously on the musical side of things rather than marketing their image, they could have potentially made even greater music. To be quite honest, I remembered nothing about The Elder until I started looking for old KISS tracks and stumbled upon it. I was just a little astounded by it all.

  • @AR485 Unfortunately the Elder gets dumped up by certain celebrities like Carrotop who probably never listed to the album and go with the flow regarding the bad reviews it originally received similar if the Bay City Rollers/Justin Bieber would get if released a recording in the vain of e. .Jimi Hendrix i.e most of their audience, even those in the Alive 1 period would not have been musically mature to have appreciated such a recording

  • @AR485 Actually I think The Elder was the result of Kiss trying to take their music a little more seriously and unfortunately it alienated a lot of their fans. Kiss is known for their catchy riffs and sing along choruses.

  • Was this a for TV show? can't tell if they're playing live, the audio is from the original recording, that I can tell.

Eric Carr didn't play on this song in the album, the original track was recorded with Anton Fig on drums

  • @geomusicmove

yes it was & it's live,

the original live-clip is also up here on the tube!

  • @geomusicmove what tv show i dont remember

  • the elder has some fine songs. this song is haunting

  • Wish they owold play this song just one live .

  • love this song, the arch enemy cover fucking slays as well

  • The Elder was always one on my favorite Kiss albums.

To bad they rarely played any of these songs live.

  • Man why did Ace hate this, this song kicks ass and so does most of this album.

  • Comment removed

  • Where was this performed?

  • This is awsome thanks for the memorys.

  • they all look like they were in high school when they performed this song pretty sweet.

  • This beat is amazing. Arch Enemy only improves it.

  • I love this song !!! Kiss are gods !!!!!!!

  • this is one of kisss's very best songs, it was just not what so called kiss fans of the time early 80's wanted, they wanted shandi not the oath. If Iron maiden had sung it it would of been huge for them.

  • Crap like this is the reason they HAD to pull the STUNT of taking their make up off. This sounds like the song from sunny in Philly-but not as good.

  • Ha Ace still looks cool though .

  • they should've have a tour called "The Elder - 30 Years"

  • @Zrinschchuck and open with this

  • 2:59-3:02

    rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrOOOCKKKKKKn ROOOOOOLll

  • This song and the hair don't do much to dispell the rumor of Paul's sexual preferences. Too bad...I really like Kiss but I have never seen this abortion of a video.

  • @hammerman7777 who cares about Paul·s sexuality? I only care about the great music he always did ,and he·s a very good singer and showman.

  • @TheBlastfuck I really like Kiss too BUT I am saying this song and video are gayer than any man P.S. has slept with.

  • Nice hair!

  • Gene Simmons is a fag. What a boner.

  • studio version

  • Kiss has lasted for over four decades! Since their first album!!

  • i've been wanking up with this song in my head for the past 3 days.. this shit is powerfull !!

  • @danszig666

    sorry.. waking

  • @danszig666 hahahahahahahahha wanking

  • i loved this album, but it seemed to divide the listening audience

  • @leokimvideo 11 people live in their office.

  • i love this song and album...i dont know why people hate this album, as a matter of fact i dont get why KISS themseleves hate this album!!!!

  • the video sucks, the song it´s ok...not bad at all

  • Horrible, the worst thing ever from Kiss.

  • @kojak1969 actually this album isnt that bad....

  • @RNH31214 In my opinion, The Elder is one of their best albums.

  • baaa!

  • The entire Elder CD reminds me of playing D&D as a kid. Love it. Gene and Paul have enough money, they should hire a studio to make the movie. I know it will never happen, but one can wish.

  • @RickOFtheJames watch kiss meets phantom of the park and u will know why they havnt made another movie

  • @gangrail Phantom is laughably bad, I dont want KISS in the movie just finance it

  • @gangrail ok that i can see that but i thought they did that with detroit rock city

  • Pitchfork Media rated this album 0 out of 10 ...wow. It's the first time I've agreed with them.

  • not a fan of this album! the production makes it even worse if thats possible!

  • this album is to good for the "normal" kiss fan, this album is for real music people who enjoy perfekt Rock sound!! Wooooow!

  • have this album on picture disc vinyl. worth some $ nowadays.

  • @410missmonkeyful

What's the number stamped on the disc? eBay has number 471 going for $499, you should sell.

  • this song is mad as . rock on kiss

  • One of the best songs of KISS! Love it! I just want to hear them play it again in the future.

  • woow I've been KISSed again (: the guitars and drums sound absolutely terrific!!! 2thumbs way up!!!

  • hey screw it!! i LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!! I dont care!!!!

  • The purple headband is totally Ghey.

  • The footage is from a Late night show Called Fridays...I have it on a bootleg...good thing you used the studio track..the audio was horrible on the show...

  • very rare ace is not using a les paul.

  • i still dont unerstand why they cuttet off their hair.

  • KISSS FOREVER!!!!!!!

    FAVROITE FUCKING BAND FOREVER!!!!(L)

    I LOVE KISSS >:D

    Since I was 2 & now im 16 ^_^ .

  • The laziness of not allowing Ace and Peter play on Psycho Circus betraying fans after waiting for almost 20 years to hear a solid album

Along with the Batman cereal box album called Sonic Boom, with classic rip off songs of Poison/Never Enough & Modern Day Deliah of chords repeated from the album Revenge is called pure laziness and little effort at all. The $buck not the creativity is more important.

  • The Fact is, KISS was always experimenting, it was a good effort but it was too early for a metal concept album, now years after shelving this Album, I detect that this album may have influenced bands like Nightwish, Epica, Lake of tears and other bands of the like

  • Kiss trying to sound "prog" is pathetic. Gene Simmons haircut pathetic. Kiss without platform boots pathetic. A concept album without a real plot pathetic. Lyrics pathetic.

  • @CENTR792

it was 1981, Disco was on it's way out, and new wave, rap, pop was on it's way in, Hair metal was also just really getting Started... KISS was Trying something Diff and it didn't work for them, they Moved on and Created Creatures of the Night then got stuck in Glam Rock and Basically shot them selves in the foot from everything Created after Lick it up

  • @feralchild13 Kiss helped create glam rock silly. Also they didn't shoot themselves in the foot in the 80s because every album besides Hot In Th Shade went platinum or double platinum after Creatures. Kiss was huge in the 80s. No they were not as big as they were in the 70s but to say they were shooting themselves in the foot is downright retarded. Oh and Kiss was glam in the 70s too. Shout It Out Loud, Crazy Nights...Beth...forever...no difference...just production was different.

  • @CENTR792 The basic plot involves the recruitment and training of a young hero by a Council of Elders belonging to the Order of the Rose, a group dedicated to combating evil. The Boy is guided by an elderly caretaker named Morpheus. The album's lyrics describe the boy's feelings during his journey and training, he overcomes his early doubts to become confident. at the end of the last track, "I." During the passage, Morpheus proclaims to the Elders that The Boy is ready to for his odyssey.

  • @feralchild13

I remember an interview with Paul on Classic Rock Magazine last Year... a fan asked "How the Boy wins his battle against Mr. Blackwell other than believeing in himself? Can you please give us some details?". Paul's answer was: "I'd like to go in detalis but the truth is that i got no idea." Just to prove that they wrote a generic plot in 5 minutes about a boy, fighting some evil forces and wins. For a concept album you need some more effort i think.

  • @CENTR792 I could not agree more. Paul & Gene always preach hard work, but they sure don't show by example in the studio, maybe in live performances. I don't think they have the patience or heart to sit in a recording studio and put in a serious effort in regards to anything but money and their d*cks. As for the Elder, for Gene & Paul that is probably a "B plus" effort. In reality the album is a standard "B"

  • @CENTR792

Mr Blackwell is a real person, Had a list every year for the best and worst dressed, Mr Blackwell Nominated Gene or someone he was dating, as one of his 'Worst Dressed' earlier that year, so how they made it fit in the concept album was a bit weird as it was a response to a real person. The pre choruses include the refrain, "You're cold and mean, and in between / You're rotten to the core", which seems to describe various celebrities' opinions of the real Blackwell.

  • @CENTR792 That's because it was Gene Simmons and Bob Ezrins baby not Pauls. That is why Paul had no idea. Gene has explained the Elder some before. I think it is a cool story. Maybe a simple story but definitely not a simple 5 minute deal. It was based a lot on mythology tied in with some modern day elements of life. It all boils down to a story that we all can relate to. Growing up in the harsh world...learning to become a man, to win over evil (lifes challenges). Told thru fantasy.

  • @CENTR792 1st off Kiss trying to sound prog is awesome. You just can't get past the fact that Kiss can do songs outside of rock n roll all nite. 2ndly Gene's hair is in a ponytail. You should really do research before making such a silly assumption. The album had a plot. The record company mixed the songs up. The order Kiss had it makes sense. Lastly the lyrics are brilliant. Get off the Elder bashing bandwagon and open your ears.

  • Dude the Elder is the only creative shit KISS ever did. I think it rocks, period. It was produced by the same producer of Pink Floyd. I hate anything KISS pretty much made outside Lick It Up after the hay days of the 70's but this album rocks. Takes awhile to adjust to the unorthodox sound of listening to KISS. But I give it a B plus.

  • @seventhdayfreedom13 So True, But you have to be smart to get that, and we can't expect everyone here to be intelligent now can we... let them have it, we know better :)

  • @seventhdayfreedom13

You're referring to Bob Ezrin, the producer. He produced Kiss' Destroyer' album as well. The only Pink Floyd album he produced was "The Wall". As he once stated in an interview about The Elder: It's a film soundtrack to a non-existent film. I was doing a lot of drugs back then..

It was bad enough that there was no film, but the record company scrambled the order of the songs, so that the story made no sense if all you had was the record. The Elder is why Ace left. .

  • The Elder is a good concept album. It is different from what KISS normally does or did. Did it really fit their image? No. Would it have fit if they were a prog rock band - yes. It does show range and different song writing style. I liked it. I loved and learned the solo Ace played in Dark Light. One of the first solos I figured out.

  • God I wish for the 30th Ann of the album they would play this live!!!

  • KISS - Music From "The Elder" 30 Years 1981-2011.

  • @TheFrankenstein72 so true.

  • Dude, your video rocks! Nice job

  • @TheAbbaStillBurns cuz they started everything did everything and were everything

  • This is a REAL JEM! Great stuff IMO! I love Rock & Roll all nite...but people don't realize KISS have ton's of good stuff that was not as popular or popular.

    Rock & Roll Over

    Creatures of the Night

    Revenge

    Music from the Elder

    Animalize

  • definitely my favourite Kiss album by far! Much better then most fans said it was , but tast of music is always personal:)

  • I like The Elder album best. When I was teenager, I could not find any music video of the Elder songs. So thank you so much for uploading this!

  • AWESOME SONG!

    AWESOME COSTUME!

    AWESOME GROUP!

  • Would have loved to have seen the movie. Too bad it was never made cause I loved this album.

  • The Elder...probably my least fav KISS album....

  • PAUL looks like he just did a JANE FONDA workout session. love the album.

  • It isn't that the album sucks it is that it was such a RADICAL departure for them. they had already alienated long time fnas by hopping onthe Disco style with " I was Made for Loving You". Unmasked had a decidedly more pop style to it. The outfits were very outlandish & the audience was being made up of kids. The long oft claim of making the HEAVIEST album wouldn't be relized until they made Creatures. That is a great album. The other big problem with the Elder is that it is out of sequence.

  • Another great video! You pick some good ones: "The Oath", "Exciter", etc. Keep up the good work!

  • i love this freakin song

  • wooooow gene simmons is very young woooow.

    the time dont not fogive

  • this song is so fucking gooood

  • i swear this song is part metal.

  • rock n roll maniacs

  • I don't have this album but i know that the album rocks!

  • The Elder = Matrix. Am I off base with this? Yeah or neigh, this is still a great album.

  • @Trader5822 your opinion mine is; KISS is awsome

  • apesar desse album ter sido um fracasso comercial, eu ele um dos melhores da carreira do KISS, fenomenal, letras boas, e sons cheios de feeling.

  • This new image along with this album really turned off fans and nearly cratered their career. Does anyone know the date of this video>?

  • Kiss is awesome, but this sounds very similar to Heart's "Barracuda."

  • @FuzzyNippres fuck heart & fuck you

  • @southplnk He just gave his opinion, dude. Learn to respect and accept opinions with your mouth closed.

  • @Slipknotter8 thank god you are here. We all need a total complete fucking stranger to teach us ethics. You and the things you say to learn are really important to us all.

  • @ballrigors1 Did you at least fucking read his comment??

  • @southplnk I hate Heart too, but there's no denying the two song's similarities.

  • 2 bad KISS hates this album now, i'm sure gene and paul were so into this whole idea when it came out.. I thought it was shit when i first heard it, but as time goes by I appreciate it more, I respect those 2 for trying 2 branch out.. I noticed alot of the solos don't really sound like Ace, is it Paul playing lead? or does Ace just play lead on dark light? I know he couldnt stand this album

  • KISS has got to put music from the elder in their song lineups at concerts...

  • PAUL'S HAIR IS NOTHING SHORT OF FEATHERED AND LETHAL

  • phenomenal album!!!

  • @ElegantDisciplesMC I agree. I had that same attitude back then. I liked the heavy sound that returned to their music but I didn't buy into the concept at all....or the look. Creatures Of The Night should have come out when this one did. Might have made a difference.....might not have......who knows

  • The Elder is as great as any other Kiss album. I just don´t know why Paul and Gene refuse to belive. And yes, i got to say The Elder is one of my favorite Kiss Albuns.

  • The more I sample The Elder, the more I like it. It has some very heavy, almost progressive elements to it. The most complex and daring thing KISS ever did. When it came out, I was completely baffled and put off by it. All these years later I can appreciate it for the quality project it was. The KISS boys need to keep their chins up when The Elder is mentioned. It has stood the test of time and deserves redemption!

  • esta cancion esta Exelente !

  • i really don't know why nobody liked this album I think it is a very good one

  • Paul's headband needs to be a little more purple. LOL. GREAT album!!!

  • Really bad lip singing in this video, Paul is off really bad!

  • They fired Bob Ezrin when this came out. B.E. made Kiss with the release of Destroyer. I've actually heard Gene and Paul almost apologize for this LP. I don't get it guy's..... I alway's liked "The Elder"!!!

  • Kiss You Wanted the Best You got the Best ! WE LOVE YOU KISS

  • I love this album, I really don't get why some people don't. It was one of their most awesome ones if you ask me. I used to listen to these songs while I was writing all the time, it was my inspiration, so to speak... but my CD got broken somehow... x.x Anyone know where I can get another copy of it? I can't ever seem to find it in any of the stores here anymore...

  • @PhoenixMoonStudio

Agreed, I also don't get it.

Do people want to hear the same kind off songs over and over again?

This was different, They tried something new. I liked it and I still do.

Some very good songs on this album.

Could have easily been a soundtrack.

  • @tampertt Yeah, it could have very easily been one, and it would have been a freaking awesome one too. ^_^

  • I don't understand why this album failed this is my 2nd best album

of Kiss. The songs on this album rocks,

  • this album would've been great if it weren't forthose instramental song and Finale

  • The Elder album ROCKED big time!

  • One of my favorite KISS songs. LOVE IT!

  • Watch this video and then watch "She's So European", and tell me that thsi album isn't better.

  • Your glory, I swear I ride for thee

Your power, I trust it rides with me

Your servant, I am and ever shall I be

  • nice song...sounds like Judas priest but not as technical

  • An interesting thing is, that both Paul and Gene were very pleased with this album, but Ace hated it so much, that he smashed the tape against the wall. But in their biography, when they had to give stars to describe the album (max. 5 - which means excellent), Gene and Paul both gave zero, but Ace gave two stars (or one?).

  • starchild the tennis player. dear god how KITSS \m/

    still love them

  • favorite kiss album.. this and destroyer lol

  • i enjoyed this album all those years ago....more than i enjoyed sonic boom just recently. if only they hadnt got their mums to cut their hair......

  • good video but the sound is kind off a little lol

  • this album is way better than everybody says it is

  • @123ozzied1

You're right! When I was growing up, all I heard about "Elder" was that it was the WORST Kiss album ever! But as an adult, Every song I heard on "Elder" (including THIS one) proves otherwise.

It's REALLY better than half of the crap out today!

  • its there best i think

  • @123ozzied1 WAAAAYYYYY BETTER!!! THEIR BEST AFTER 'CREATURES OF THE NIGHT'

  • I love this album!!

  • @Patchmagic88 this album is suck!

  • @SonikkuMasterr Are you joking the elder was a fantastic album.

  • @Patchmagic88 yeah this is underRated

unmasked is another Gem to bad some fans don't appreciate them.

in 80-82 ok i can see why fans were upset. BUT now & since ive been a fan these are Great LPs

  • @MetalHeart8787 Yeah i totally agree dude, i think people should judge the albums alone rather than as what they view as a "kiss record" should sound like.

  • Whats funny is that this album is hated but it inspired so many bands,I remember them getting a lot shit for this album and that they sold out to disco,This album kicks ass! plain and simple
