SO AWESOME. Perhaps the best sound I've ever heard come out of a bass clarinet. Perfect tone; almost impossibly clean, with double helpings of that wonderfully smooth, mellow, "earthy" clarinet timbre.
wow, i've always thought bass clarinets sounded way to vibrating without any pleasing resonance and warmth of the sound. this is done really well. good job!
Next time somebody tells me the only thing a Bass Clarinet is good for in the bass line in a woodwind ensemble I'm referring him to this. I give this an infinite amount of stars.
i dont particularly like the piece but it exploits a really opposite side of what mst think the bass clarinet is. its a wonderful instrument. this shows just how flexible it is. but i dont exactly like the piece xD
Wow this is absolutely amazing. I play Bass Clarinet and I love playing challenging stuff on it like 1st clarinet parts for pieces like Light Cavalry Overture, but this is just beyond my comprehension....job well done.
Too bad composers don't write so many pieces that give us bass clarinet players enough of a challenge so we have to go out and steal stuff from clarinets, bassoons, and the rest. hahahahaha
OMG!!!!! i play bass clarinet! and i may be a girl but i am a beast at it!!!! i can really blow!!!! just like this guy! amazing! You rhigh notes sound amazing.............
@Clubzan21 I wish my freshman bass clarinet girls can play loud...I am their section leader and I have been trying to get them to play loud but they just can't for some reason...what's your secret to playing loud and well? hahahaha
I loved it. I've tried woodwinds from recorder to (French) bassoon, and am duly impressed. But I could imagine spending quite some time and effort to get to know the piano player.
very good!. i also recommend musically to work a bit on intonation on the high notes(i know its hard) and that if you are already using the bass clarinet you can exploit its charcter even more when you have low notes, it sounded a bit like they are being silent rather then present..
One reason why it may be harder to tongue fast is because you may not have a great bass clarinet. The difference between the plastic student bass clarinets and a professional model is shockingly satisfying.
you are amazing! i play clarinet and bass clarinet and i find bass clarinet soo much harder. its hard to tongue fast, move your fingers fast, play higher notes! i love it though :D
@fullonfatty you can be.. just get with a good teacher and practice 2 hours daily. trust me if you do that then one day you will be on stage playing this peice. the talent is in you and i believe you will master the instrument.
Yes I am playing bass clarinet only 4 or 5 months, but I want to be REALLY GOOD at it. And the problem is that I still can't do staccato on notes higher than c2. And everything I can really play on it to sound good except orchestral sheet are: Beatles songs and some really simple music... I tried to play Kramar concert for Clarinet, but it sounds terrible. It really does. :S
So if you have some advice, please DO TELL me! And keep up the good work! This is really brilliant
I am soo jealous!!! I did this piece on regular clarinet for a contest on Bb clarinet after having praciticed it on a bass clarinet for a long time. This is really awesome! Maybe someday I'll play it like ou did! :P
i could never approach bass clarinet with so much confidence! it would take me months to get the courage to try something this challenging on the bass. congratulations!!!
Young, I supposed I shouldn't be surprised, given the talent you exhibited in my class, but what a great musician you are. I'm thoroughly impressed. However, I do have one question, and I supposed I'mdisplaying my ignorance here, but I've never seen a clarinet that looks or sounds like that. Am I right? What is it called? Dennis
WONDERFUL.

one time I don't like about bass clarinet is that, when played standing, the bell is at the groin area. XD
