i LOVE this song!!! when my eastern music camp choir sang this, our choir teacher told half of us to say stride and the other half to say strive so that the people who were saying srtive would over prenounce the v in strive so that the audience could hear us better....
I'm a first soprano in this song for my school. The last note was frightening at first, but when I actually opened the back of my throat, I found that I can reach that B flat easily. O_o You never know until you try.
@PearsRpretty I'm an alto, and the alto range on this song is huge compared to a lot of choral pieces. I'm loving the challenge of getting to the high Eb in staff. It's not a note I'm used to singing by any means.
Just wait til the end of the year after you've performed this piece! Your range will seriously stretch. You'll be hitting notes you never knew you could hit. :3
The men really do sound great in this. I did this song in HS as well^^ Great song for young men and women. Very hard tenor part I remember it well. HIGH HIGH HIGH at the end :p
our whole choir did this last year for the final concert... they are good, but we didn't even have music infront of us and 95% of us were crying. But Like I said they are really good.
I don't like the dynamics in their interpretation. Our choir just did this, and our dynamics were more contrasting...more interesting. They did a good job though.
The SATB version is great, but I will point out that the song was originally written TTBB for the Singing Men of Ohio at Ohio University in Athens, OH. I'm a member. :-)
i sang this in high school a few years back in PMEA honors chorus... i loved this piece and i just read the poem in a poetry class haha thats why i searched for it... Ulysses - alfred tennyson if anyone reading this is interested

this song is SO epic. In school choir, we do the Ooohs at the beginning much slower, but I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. :)

Can't people just sit still? I would consider it rude to cough and shuffle papers while singing was going on. Seriously, it can be controlled.

its funny my high school did this last year and we sound the same, just less consistent. so good job, but our altos weren't drowned out as much.

stupak the song was written to have women sing along with men and i think it is a perfect mix

It's the wrong character of this song to have women singing.

the altos could have been a little louder. the sopranos were a bit over powering them.

women a little overpowering

This song is extemely hard to tune.
My high school A Cappella Choir did this piece last year, took it a bit slower. Virtually the same interpretation.

The blending wasn't very good in certain parts. You could only hear the tenors and the basses in certain spots.
