Having now owned a Freelander 2 for 10 months, I'm not surprised that this one got thru a sticky situation when many so called "4WD's with low ratio" would have failed dismally. True, diff lockers would help get many SUV's thru this bog, but the Land Rover terrain response and traction control technology really works. I have gone places I know I wouldn't have made it in other "legitimate" 4WD's. This tech is awesome!
Awesome I love my freelander! And I just went to wooley's for the first time. And had a blast. I showed up my buddies in there Chevys with lift kits and mud tires and mine is stock with street radials!
a so called 'soft-roader' with no diff locks or low box achieved this, wow. That's british engineering for you. Would be nice if it was british anyway. I have recently come to understand why land rovers have a premium, they work properly off road. My Toyota Hilux is great once you are stuck, but drive above 30mph in 4wd and you'll knacker the diff, so basically it is highly dangerous at speed, as it is rear wheel drive.

why all the panic about "no lockers"?? its got full traction control plus being FREELANDER2 its got terrain response too. doesnt need lockers. just prooves how capable these machines are. wears its green oval with pride
no lockers no mud tires no problem! those LR2's are the best off road performers that i have seen in a stock mid sized suv. these are truly are amazing !!!!!!!!!
Unlike your typical American Four Wheel drive, an all-wheel drive LR2 is as capable as any off road vehicle I've driven. I've seen these cars do things above and beyond what you'd expect.

Fair play for taking a Freelander this new out like that. Although should really have had a snorkel on there for this kind of stuff.

I put Nitto Terra Grapplers on my LR2 and they improved the performance dramatically. I haven't gotten stuck since.
