@hornman71 - so you must know that album jacket as well as I then! Ha ha ha... too awesome! I was pretty embarrassed to be enjoying my dad's music and I generally only snuck the record out to play when my folks weren't around.
@balderdashman I grew up without tv, so it was listen to the radio or records. This song was on a various artist album. I am 40 and the album is just as old as I am, this was my favorite song along with Dolly Parton singing "Mule Skinner Blues".The only 2 songs I can remember on that album.
Another #1 hit for Buck Owens on the Country & Western charts. It was the 172nd #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks charts. And Buck Owens was now being seen in households across America thanks to the CBS hit show, Hee Haw.
Of course it's Susan Raye. It's not even up for debate. Geez! And Buck did not write the song about Merle Haggard. In fact, even though his name is on it, Buck didn't write the song.
Buck seeing the future of whats was coming put a lot into this, and this was story telling, great mini movie, Buck put a lot of stock in future in stuff like this too!
Buck wrote this song about Merle Haggard when hr stole Buck's wife Bonnie Owens only trouble is Merle aint hardly tall. what was Bucks guitar picker and tennor singer's name? got killed on a motorcycle i think never mind Don Rich

Story is this song is about Merle Haggard stealing Buck's wife Bonnie.

Of course Bakersfield is in the South!
I bet Buck and his Buckaroos could play three sets like it was nothing.
