  • I have been using Linux for about 3 years now and I have only had kernel panic once and that was due to bad hardware. Unix is just more stable. Ask Mac OS X users how many time they have had it and I bet it will be like 1 or 0. When I was on Windows I had BSOD all the time. Windows has the largest market share meaning more people are buying a fundamentally unstable OS which equates to more BSOD in the world. Does not matter if it is Mac OS X or Linux..get on Unix now to save yourself from BSOD

  • @Darthvies im a novice... what is kernel panic and how do you avoid it (im vista 64 bit and i know people say "vista boo" but ive never had a BSOD and ive done everything i wanted to on it except i havent tried P2P and alot of compatibility issues like with MUGEN)

  • A Kernel Panic is a hard stop, A BSOD is a debug screen. 9/10 A Kernel Panic is the result of an irrepairable error, Windows reverts to it's last stable state after a BSOD, OS X just reboots with it's fingers crossed.

  • @M0U53Y you just powned chris... because what your saying is...: BSOD makes a last effort( i had one when my cpu overheated) but Kernel panic means its too late and chris was just lucky...

  • @chris pirillo

okay i was bsoded 3 times and it fixed its self each time and all i had todo was uninstall my webcam

  • It finished printing the print job.... probably because it finished spooling to the printer before it crashed.

  • Last time i checked , windows has boot recovery and image restore and system restore

  • Wasn't Microsoft fault he said he had wrong permissions at the end so stop blaming Microsoft office.

  • @Randalllind microsoft software shouldn't have done this in the first place if they were good developers.

  • Yup, its Microsoft's fault. When you have no one else to blame, just blame Microsoft. Is it just me, or do ALL Mac users blame all their problems on Microsoft?

  • GAME OVER YEAHHH

  • Don't use MICROSOFT PRODUCTS, period!

  • waste of time to watch this

  • Step three - don't be a lying tard and stop using a 10 year olds OS

  • Ive had a Kernel Panic 3 times. The 3rd was the weirdest. The picture started shaking and the laptop started screaming. I'd rather get a BSOD than that!

  • Chris installed Microsoft office on his mac for the fonts, however, on various occasions, he complains about the fonts for windows. He's said it is one of microsoft's biggest mistakes, I don't get it.

  • Yes, whenever possible DO NOT install Microsoft software on any computer. Including computers running Windows.

  • HAHAHA

  • Mac cant handle microsoft office? wow, never buying a mac...

  • Why would you stick to MS Office when you can simply download OpenOffice, or buy iWork, if ur using a mac?

  • you could simply download OpenOffice but still wont handle microsoft office ;)

  • Actually it can, like any other mac software... I think any OS X fan would make fun of it, just because it's a Microsoft software... It's not a big deal :D

  • I think it's more of a comment on microsoft's poor programming.

  • You weren't gonna buy one anyways. This is just a windows fanboy taking any and every opportunity to talk shit on a mac.

  • agree, i guess we microsoft fan boys, do care about not caring about this kind of comments, cuz we just laugh about them and its wrong, so we do our best to not take it serious, and, enjoy life, mac is great for everyone, and I enjoy the way it choses prices, and everything (Apple proves that Name and design are great values in comparison of specs and everything).

    1 More thing, Im a PC! :D

  • Thats why I told myself "When I get my iMac, DON'T INSTALL MICROSOFT SOFTWARE!!!!"

This reason right there. Happens all the time at school with the same software

  • weird how 1 year later just a day before this date he got another kernel panic lol...

  • When i got a kernel panic, Mac fixed it self too and has not happen again.

  • Hearing that guy talk is sad. There are better things in life other than brand loyalty. Like sex, music, art, travel and lots of other things.

  • that's weird I installed microsoft office 08 on OS X leopard and it runs perfectly. Btw about the mac fixing the crash, PC's can still function perfectly right after an BSOD.

  • Uh, my Vista fixed the problem with the BSOD after I installed APPLE itunes, damn you Apple, btw, I have used the operating system, but I could NOT customize it... I couldn't even make my own explorer D: it is GREAT, it just isn't "me".

    ...Just not hackable.

  • OSX sucks balls! Fixes itself..! Yeah right! It wasnt even a true failure like hardware or serious soft issue!

Its pathethic how Chris is making escuses for such a bad operating system! Like any other mac fanboy: Its never Apple's fault!

  • it was a software issue,

    he installed MICROSOFT office.

    dam that microsoft.

  • That's strange because people have the same problems on Windows with iTunes (BSODs)- the crappiest player ever designed! LOOOL!

  • lol its the crappiest player on WINDOWS LOL

  • BSOD ala MAC

  • Just trying to blame microsoft... APple sucks

  • Yeah with these people there is nothing M$ can do right.

If an apple shit fails blame M$.

Anyways, Chris is going Looney. His famboyism is getting out of control.

I hope he is enjoying his new cult apple friends. A community where you can't speak against mighty apple. There is not too much freedom in the apple community you are only aloud to talk shit about M$.

  • Apple Knock Out

  • This is a common problem with MS products. Most crashes in OS9 were caused by buggy MS libs and IE. There really is no reason to use MS products on a mac these days - there is better, cheaper stuff out there.

  • I've been utterly amazed at how many kernel panics I've had that I never suspected would be connected to MS Office, but then when I check the logs turns out 90% of the time Entourage was the issue!! I hate Entourage, flaming piece of poo. Can't wait for Snow Leopard & localized exchange support.

  • So should i delete Entourage?

if i delete entourage will that delete the rest of MS office.

    like word excel and powerpoint.

if i can delete it without deleting the rest, do i just drag it to the trash.

  • Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you don't use Entourage then yes, just trash it (assuming you have no future need for it). Entourage isn't going to cause you trouble if it isn't running, my issues with it have all occurred while it is running.

If you are trying to get to the bottom of a problem then when you get the notice to report your issue to Apple read the report of what application caused the crash.

  • should i just go into the ms office folder and then just drag entourage into the trash.

    just to be safe!

    Oh btw,

    what is entourage used for?

  • Entourage is used for e-mail, really only need it if you use an exchange e-mail account (Apple Mail is much better for POP & IMAP).

you can just drag it to the trash. If you've never used it then it isn't going to be the cause of your problems. More likely that Word or Excel could be connected to issues you might have.

Look up NeoOffice on Google, it's a good Office replacement for working with previous office formats but doesn't work as well with .docx, .xlxs, or .pptx.

  • I can't even get my MobileMe account to work with Entourage. It asks me to type in my IMAP server type, and other things. When I set up an account in Apple Mail, i just simply type in my email address and password. I was amazed at how complicated Microsoft made entourage.

  • Chris is such a mac fanboy. The first time i tried to sync my videos to my ipod touch on vista i got the blue screen of death. It was my first and last. Ever since then everything has been fine.

  • yeah, because thats vista. MS probably put in crippleware to stop you doing anything not related to microsoft.

  • LOL, Microsoft product on OS X.

  • FDFVVBHJCV NGFVNJ

  • It's funny how Chris is excited about the Kernal Panic!

  • The operating system fixed a kernel panic? LOL

No it didn't. How on earth would it fix it?

I've only ever had one kernel panic on linux, and that was due to some closed source driver falling over on me. Linux managed to "fix itself" by just rebooting.

  • Same wiht my ibook.

it came up with the restart message, and then i restarted it and it was fine, and i havnt had a problem yet.

  • Had my first one today aswell!

  • lmao ohh

  • nice one pirillo!

  • Hehe lol
