@youngzacc I was blown away when Common said he didn't really like the direction this album took...I think this is the best song he has ever produced, and one of the greatest Hiphop songs of all time. This song is the argument I use when people say MCing isn't artistic, and Hiphop is just other people's music, badly remade. CHECKMATE!!!
This song is so amazing! I was of the thought that this song might hit the airwaves when I fist heard the album, which was the day it came out. And, I saw him being interviewed, speaking on the issues that he addressed on this song. Man, was I wrong about that! Hip hop gave this album the cold shoulder, and just ignored it, if it wasn't dogging it out. Still, this song is so touching! The verse about his grandmother dying, just tugs at my heart strings. Still, I love this song so much:)
THIS ENTIRE ALBUM WAS WAYYY BEFORE ITS TIME!! HE SHOULD RE-RELEASE IT!! HE WAS ON SOME FUTURISTIC ROCKSTAR ISH BEFORE NICCAS STARTED PARTYING LIKE ROCKSTARS ON THIS!!
This Album was WAAYYY Ahead of its time, PROPS to COMMON for doing something different with hip hop back then, You like this? Now go listen to KID Kudi's "Man on The Moon" album
even though this album got crap reviews, it's still one of the first albums that opened me up to more eclectic sounds. this beat alone makes you feel the electric circus.
@MarkietheRIGGAman It got great reviews "an audacious briliant work" A landmark album in hip hop history" "An outstanding record unhesitating recommended" etc
My man got a lot of slack for making this album. The critism was disappointing, but expected. Growth/Evolution is never cultivated or respected properly. That's why you gotta respect ODB, Rick James, Cee-Lo, Ornette Coleman, Marylin Manson and mutha fuckas like that.
I was surprised that this song never made it past the album. Thought it was gonna be big when I first heard it, cuz he covered some big topics here, but guess that wasn't to be. Still, love this song so much!
J dilla beat.........yall cant see him on these BEATZ the king of beats !!
