I live in the same town with Ted Gundy. I was at a benefit auction over the weekend and sat across from him. He had donated one of his personal scopes to the auction. I now own that scope!

It is not astonishing to WWII and Korean Vets that he shoots that well. Qualifying during that era, was with OPEN sites and an M1. Many with hunting experience qualified as an "Expert" quite easily at _600_ yards without a scope or bench rest. We had to qualify firing off hand in a Standing, Sitting, and Prone position. Many in my platoon had scores of 295 or higher out of 300 possible and several had a 300. Its much easier with a scope, rest and sniper rifle at 1000 yards.

Ted is real. I've known him by whole life. I served with him on a funeral detail just not that long ago. He is a local hero but still humble just as you see here. The posts running him down or politicizing his life miss the point--the Battle of the Bulge happened, he was there, he did what he was told. Get over it.

It is not astonishing to WWII and Korean Vets that he shoots that well. Qualifying during that era, was with OPEN sites and an M1. Many with hunting experience qualified as an "Expert" quite easily at _600_ yards without a scope or bench rest. We had to qualify firing off hand in a Standing, Sitting, and Prone position. Many in my platoon had scores of 295 or higher out of 300 possible and several had a 300. Its much easier with a scope, rest and sniper rifle at 1000 yards.
