I feel technology will overcome the massive divide in people and all species, really opening things up through communication, instant connections globally to this sort of information.
Like i said i have no idea what accent he was trying to go for, but logic dictates that it is more likely to be a person who comes from a cold climate anyway, not a 30 degree + kinda place.
She probably thought he was a juvenile seal (streamlined in his wetsuit and all). Plus, he was considerably smaller than she, and darker (like a baby leopard seal). She made several attempts to feed him and teach him to hunt, and got panicky when he appeared unable to learn. I bet she's a good mother with instincts like that...great story.
I would have ate one so she would stop killing penguins for me. With her size she could wipe out the whole penguin population trying to feed this dumb thing that won't eat. I mean what does this guy want, penguin under glass, flambé or with cherries jubilee. I guess I could bring him a whale.
Amazing story. You wouldn't think such a predator as this would show such nurturing behaviour. Just goes to show you should never judge a book by its cover. And beautiful shots too xxx
That is incredible! This predator of the ocean found the diver curious and then decided to help him learn the ways of hunting and the ocean. This proves to me that animals have the ability to feel sympathy and compassion for other life. My usual thought of animals in nature is that they act on instinct, a built in code of survival and fight or flight reactions and little to no reasoning at all. But this sort of clip proves me wrong and shows that animals are much more, and full of surprises.
@rzega02 Somtimes, a camera lens can look like a mirror. I can understand a leopard seal not understanding the concept of a mirror and just seeing another seal in need of help.
What a wonderful tribute to the goodness of a member of the animal kingdom. What a wonderful story to open our eyes to seeing animals in a different way. There are so many stories of animals who have rescued humans.
this is beyond fantastic! She could have easily eaten him, but instead she believed he needed help or something and offered him gifts of food. WOW... kinda makes you think how unpredictable nature is.
she just kept bringin' him penguins like a little cat brings you a mouse like she had a little penquin convenience store just down the street from her house. of course he should've eaten some penguin that would've been the gracious thing to do i know i would've certainly taken a bite and i'm sure that you would've too. so next time you're in the arctic, my friend and a leopard seal brings you a treat show some manners, and show some gratitude, and eat, why don't you! EAT!
That's amazing!

@MisterBreezer Perhaps because South Africa is much closer to Antarctica than Canada?
