mass produced katanas are shouldn't be campared to a traditionally made one. They mass-produced them during world war 2. The average traditionally made katanas starts from at least a few thousand dollars. Imagine mass produced Rolls Royces Made in China etc.. Just my opinion.
Masahiro katanas are actually pretty good for their low price. I got one at the Flea Market for about $70... It actually cut pretty well and was a lot more resilient than I thought it would be. I used it to cut down small trees and hit it against a few pieces of junk metal and stuff like that. It took over a year for me to end up breaking the handle, even with the abuse I put it through. The reason the blade is destroyed is because I bent it in half with my bare hands after I got really angry.
Yeah, I guess I should really learn how to control my temper. Anyway, I guess this is the point I'm trying to make... Imagine how much longer these swords could last in the hands of somebody who isn't as irresponsible or short-tempered as myself. Trust me. These blades are actually pretty good for their price, so long as you don't like an irresponsible idiot with it like I did.
@shentaro I have the furinkazan katana, it was a beautiful sword, and very great for practice and some light cutting, i tested on water bottles, 12liter soda bottles and yoga mats and it worked wonders. hope this somewhat helped.
@softndsmooth Ah it did, thanks I was hoping it was sharp enough to do something like that, I love the whole Furinkazan thing so I am getting the sword, the fan and the shirt form Amazon, the case it comes with looks beutiful too. Thank you for letting me know! I am also getting the cleaning kit.
@shentaro I do not have the cleaning kit, though it's very popular. My blade was stainless steel, I'm not sure if they make carbon variants. The sword is great and very well balance, the only thing I never seem to solve, with any sword I've ever purchased for that matter, is after several draws, the mouth of the saya becomes worn out and the blade unsheathes too easily.
@MrRubio07 the value after the ten refers to the carbon content. 1040 steel is about .4% carbon. more carbon makes the steel harder and more efficient for cutting
you should have mentioned that the nakago only comes half way inside the tsuka... plus that the end of the nakago is glued in. These are SERIOUS defects in the sword.
Oh ya ! One more thing, the price is probably more because that's what happens. Prices go up all the time. I'd have better luck putting my pants on using only my elbows, then explaining such simple things to simple people.
Don't listen to anyone here. Your video is great! Nothing wrong with your voice and as far as enthusiasm goes , your selling swords not cures for cancer. It would be creepy if you got super excited about all this. The video is fine.
If your going to make a video to market a product maybe next time you could show a little more enthusiasm.... And on your website it says the sword is $65 not $59.. Either way thanks for posting
@weed123282 From what I know, the bo-hi/ fuller (blood groove is an incorrect term!) doesnt have anything to do with the quality of a blade. Its main purpose is to lighten the blade. Blades with bo-hi also make a swoosh noise when swung correctly. Which is not only cool, but also helps you see if your form is correct. The downside to fullered blades is that they are not as efficient cutters as solid bodied blades.
can you please make a unboxing review on the Masahiro Elite Kenshin Katana im planning on buying this sword and i would like to see it in a persons hands and not just on the your website.
@marcoduradoni I had no idea that you had to be Japanese to have interest or knowledge in swords. I also never knew that anybody ever CLAIMED to be Japanese on here. Thanks for letting me know.
why cant swordsofmight increase its inventory a bit =[? I mean I waited for months to buy swords from you, but it was never available, and I ended up buying from another website, which had everything available to buy.
i like the website, but it's pretty weird for you to advising to sell what you don't actually have =[
@TheRelicator probably light cutting, like tatami mats and some bamboo and stuff and flesh. i got a musashi zetsurin katana and i wouldnt go around swinging it at big trees or lamp posts or anything.
Oh ya, by the way everyone that is interested in this sword..buy it from Handmade swords, they are a reputable retailer, and there stuff is legitimate..swords of might sucks..haha PWNED
b.c. its cheaply made... there is no soft steel center to give it flexibility like most hand forged swords... that one may not even be handforged.. o_O
Well hand forging is not a must for function unless you're a purist, however the quality of the steel, the tang and some heat treatment are absolutely necessary.
Its a good beginner sword for people that like to practice cutting and have never owned a real sword before (LIke me). It gives you a idea of what to be conscious for on ur next sword (Example: weight, sharpness, carbon content, how easy the scabbard gets nikked up, etc.); SIDE NOTE, this blad is a 1045 carbon steel serious; 1060 and 1095 are stronger/better blades.
what do mean real sword? Unless you have an authentic Katana sword, dates back to Fuedal Japan, or that is forge by sword masters in Japan....then you can call it a real katana sword.Otherwise its "chitana"...Made in China.
I just meant a sword that wasnt plastic or stainless steal and that you could actually use in a battle just like they used too haha..as far as where its made, you could be rite, it migjht very well be made in china..but its a quality sword no question..At least my musashi sword is..
no thats nonsense if it is made in the traditional japanese way then it is a real katana not authentic but sure it is real on the authentic part i agree with you

nope they arnet i agree with you swords are made to kill they have no other purpose so you must not treat them as mere toys and you must also respect them and learn about the sword before you even think of holding one but anyway i fully agree with you ^_^
its not all that sharp, they dont use real ray skin for the tsuka, and the blade steel is cheap. as in cheap i mean that it is great but not as hard as the more expensive steels. still a great buy

Yes this sword along with all other Masahiro swords are very good functional swords, just make sure you get it from a reliable store like this place or swordsofdestiny.
kevin/hyujinsama just posted a warning regarding some production swords. he opened up the tsuka and he saw that inside the extra long handle, part of it was hollow. that sword he reviewed by the way was this sword, the masahiro elite musashi sword. careful when you are using this for cutting practice, the tsuka might break while in the middle of your swinging motion. practice safely!

anything under 200 is cheap... 200 - 500 is cheap but looks really good =p ... 500+ and youll be getting into high grade practical katanas... shame they arent used anymore, not many people are truly skilled in traditional katana making, making said high grade swords hard to come by... 400$ im jealous though, i cant afford to spend that much on a single blade >.>

Original damascus steel is much more expensive than carbon steel, so it might be better. Masahiro katanas are usually made of carbon steel, but they're really good ;]
i bought one of these about 3 months ago, they cost wey more here, mine cost £350, it is a full tang though, the only difference is mine has a black wrap handle
The Masahiro Musashi is a wallhanger. Not razorsharpened and not meant for practice. The cutting edge is bevelled. It does cut, but is not sharpened like a functional katana. If you want a decent cutter from same brand & price range, go for Masahiro Dragon or Bamboo. Only a few Masahiros are razorsharpened. The rest all have a bevelled edge. I have the Elite Fuji. My friend has the Elite Musashi. Both have a bevelled cutting edge.
We both own a Dragon too and that 1 is razorsharpened with the flowing V-line up to the bo-hi. Though a little underweight, the dragon is an ok cutter for beginners. And with extra sharpening it even becomes a pretty good cutter for such a cheap price.
Forgive me for being skeptical of the quality. If it's that cheap, can I trust this sword to be fully functional? This is not an exhibition sword is it?
When buying anything in life, you must always consider price. The only part of this sword which is not good is the tang. It is not full and the end of the handle has been known to snap.
I would say it is hit and miss. Most of the lower end masahiro swords are either really sharp or unevenly sharpened. If you are looking for a better cutter I would go with a Musashi...
mass produced katanas are shouldn't be campared to a traditionally made one. They mass-produced them during world war 2. The average traditionally made katanas starts from at least a few thousand dollars. Imagine mass produced Rolls Royces Made in China etc.. Just my opinion.

The swords you want are from Ronin swords .com.au
It's an Australian company that sell the best swords in the world,
They are quite cheap considering the quality!
The average katana from ronin.com.au is 39.5" long and is built to cut through most objects including metal, brick, plastic and wood!
The average katana is $400 aus

Please learn how to pronounce these Japanese terms correctly.
And for a person who is trying to sell a Japanese sword, learn how to PROPERLY remove the sword from the saya.
steveill123 3 years ago
Which terms are you referring to?? It is pronounced Saya... not "say ya as some think
swordsofmight 3 years ago
sounded to me like you pronounced it all right

The Masahiro Musashi is a wallhanger. Not razorsharpened and not meant for practice. The cutting edge is bevelled. It does cut, but is not sharpened like a functional katana. If you want a decent cutter from same brand & price range, go for Masahiro Dragon or Bamboo. Only a few Masahiros are razorsharpened. The rest all have a bevelled edge. I have the Elite Fuji. My friend has the Elite Musashi. Both have a bevelled cutting edge.
thephantasm2000 3 years ago
We both own a Dragon too and that 1 is razorsharpened with the flowing V-line up to the bo-hi. Though a little underweight, the dragon is an ok cutter for beginners. And with extra sharpening it even becomes a pretty good cutter for such a cheap price.
thephantasm2000 3 years ago
You are correct and thanks for the info
swordsofmight 3 years ago
is the masahiro elite musashi like good enough to cut tatami though?
tollios6553 3 years ago
can you not just go get your sword sharpened?
strongnoob 3 years ago
I looked into that too, but getting your sword sharpened like it should be, costs waaayyyy more than the sword itself.

im having trouble with the site
half of it doesnt work and it looks like a search engine for sites not as selling site
p.s. do you ship to Israel?
nathanJazz 3 years ago
We do not ship overseas.
swordsofmight 3 years ago
will this be at least sharp enough to cut a beach mat or water jug?
tollios6553 3 years ago
They are usually sharp enough, but you must watch as these are not quite full tang.
swordsofmight 3 years ago
oh ok, im gonna get one but the tang isnt full because the tsuka is so long? or is it just not double pegged?
tollios6553 3 years ago
It is double pegged, but the tang stops right at the second peg. I was not privy to this info when making this review or I would have said.
swordsofmight 3 years ago
Forgive me for being skeptical of the quality. If it's that cheap, can I trust this sword to be fully functional? This is not an exhibition sword is it?
aurumvore 3 years ago
When buying anything in life, you must always consider price. The only part of this sword which is not good is the tang. It is not full and the end of the handle has been known to snap.
swordsofmight 3 years ago
is there will be any problems if i buy it online, because my country at malaysia.
angrywolfofmibu 3 years ago
I am sorry, we do not ship overseas.
swordsofmight 3 years ago

jason i have a real good question :D from a scale of 1-10 what do you rate this swords sharpnes?
Mario7770 3 years ago
I would say it is hit and miss. Most of the lower end masahiro swords are either really sharp or unevenly sharpened. If you are looking for a better cutter I would go with a Musashi...
swordsofmight 3 years ago
ok, thank you very much for the info :)
Mario7770 3 years ago
May you tell me how much doest the sword cost?
