and how much did that cost? Because for what bose generally go for, I'd assume these plastic enclosured, cheap single driver speakers would go for a good 140 dollars. Look, I'm not saying they're bad, I'm sure they sound decent, but for what you pay, this is ridiculous. Bose should know to use atleast a separate tweeter for the highs, because naturally, at higher volume levels when the driver begins to stress, the highs will become very distorted and muffled due to the natural woofer properties.

@nandrys unless you plan on just using the av40's for mixing the highs/mids, i would recommend the companion 2's over the AV40's. companion's are better suited for casual listening where the AV40's have a very particular soundstage with almost no bass extension which will make a lot of music sound boring.

I used to have a harman kardon 2.0 speaker system that sounded just a tad bit better than this. It was amazingly good for stock speaker systems too. Only one driver and almost no distortion.

I bought these at future shop (canada) They sell for them for 149.99 and I had a flyer from a competitor that had them for 84.99, so they matched the price + an extra 10% off. You'd think that would make them worth the price at 74.49 but you'd be wrong. At $19.99 perhaps...

I returned them and ordered a pair of M-audio AV40, even at about $10 more than these go for retail I know they'll be worth every penny. It's a mystery to me how bose got a good name selling crap at high end prices?

the creatives are a bad name to the company, they are by far their worst ever, can't say i've heard the Hercules, the Behringers are HUGE, and not really a desktop on the same par as the Bose in that sense. The M-Audios are good, i think they are the main rivals to Bose. I would buy a Bose pair though as they have such good bass for a 2.0 system and are a trusted name in this region of the market.

@murdersgalore You still get an idea of WHAT they sound like. Poor bass extension, and a very warm sound.. good clarity and separation, even though it's a single paper cone driver. The mic I recorded from is far from shitty. There is absolutely no distortion or clipping with the mic I used.

The bass DOES sound canned like it did on the track "Jump". The only thing that wasn't there is the artifacts from YouTube recompressing the sound. Your shit is shitty

@danger00000000000000 The bass extension is fine for a small driver but is exaggerated in the upper bass. Whenever you turn the volume high though the bass flattens out. There is definitely bass boost equalizer at low volumes

Logitech's 2.0 offerings blow. So does ALTEC LANSING's 2.0 systems, especially the model with the subwoofer on the bottom.

CREATIVE has some very nice 2.0 speakers, but they also cost more.. and still don't have any bass.

I can't say they are the best for the price, what I can say is they do a good job for price and size. There are a lot bigger speakers that will do better but again you have to have a big box, for me that will just not do. Its not for everyone, and for some people who buy it because of the name, I would advice not to, but if you want compact good looking small setup then yes I recommend them. For me I like how they sound for what I use them for.

They sound fine to me, as for the base, can't here the base been that loud or hard, still these speaker really are not for heavy base, get a sub for that.

Also equalize the sound, strange most people don't do this for their computer but its a must for home high end system depending on how the room is and what material there is in it.
