  • So was that the last flight on XL319? And where is it now, was this one of the Vulcan's that were scrapped?

  • @Joeaviation1712 Yes, She is at North East Air Museum (Neam) and no she's being worked on right now!!!

  • @rccentury thanks you for that :) always nice to find out about another Vulcan that hasn't been turned into a pile of scrap. Thanks again.

  • @vaughnorganist The Vulcan XH558 does not fly that far only in the UK due to flying life and this is XL319

  • Can't wait to see this at the airshow next week! An awesome plane.

  • its not the same exact plane

  • Friday 21 January 1983 AFAIK

  • Coolest plane ever built! Thanks for posting!

  • My mam, grandma and grandad went to see that :D

  • just reading back through the comments and seen piperpilots comment about the bbc man i would love to see that video lol

  • I remember the noise!! i think i was only about 4 or 5 at the time, but its just one of those things that sick in your mind. Now i pass it every day on my way to work keep meaning to go have another look but never seem to get the time. Shame.

  • I was 9 at the time of this and watched it from the hill at town end farm : ) At the top next to the pylon and the old gun turret/ air raid shelter thing that used to be there ahhh those where the days i also saw this plane in an air show from the same place i think it was the year before this i remember feeling the engines resinate through my chest i'd never seen anything like it at the time and i thought it was the coolest thing ever : )

  • I remember the day in question, one of my teachers at castleview actually turned round to me and a couple of friends and said that he actually doubted the runway was big enough.

  • @druidwulf having went to castleview too m8, it doesnt surprise me that the teachers were wrong ;)

  • wow, can you beleieve that shes the same jet now, me and a handfull of people work to restore her, its a mamoth task it is but were working on some electrics for her

  • well when i was little Bill used to let me and my brother in all time and now im a dad i want my little boy to play in it but its really gone down the pan its a shame

  • I saw this Vulcan at The museum and its in really bad condition at the moment. My Grandad has worked on this plane many times and we were both shocked to see how bad condition its in.

  • can i just ask who your grandad is, me and some volenteers are restoring her at neam and it would be helpful to get in contact, can give you my contact info if nessecery

  • That brings back memories.

As I recall it took three of four goes to land. It went over our school, Castle View Comp, on its approaches. The whole school was on break time, and it had stil not landed when the bell rang. Did we go in? Did we hell!

Fair play to the teachers though, they didn't order us back to classes. Instead they stood and watched with us kids :D

  • I always wanted to see this, because I wasn't there on the day - thanks.

By the way any other makems remember the name of He-Man's girly partner? It was She-Ra, later to become the idol of all the thick geordies who gave money away to Freddie & co.

  • I have just heard that the Vulcan actually blew a BBC Camera man across the A19.

  • I think that they were blow accross the runway/taxi strip. They had been warned not to get too clsoe to the back of the aircraft as it would run off fuel to save having to pump it all out. I think they thought it had shut down, but it spooled up again. This is the ITV news report, the BBC one was a bit shorter because of it (i think!)

  • Pity it wasn't carrying a nuclear payload to sort out sunderland's shitty council estates.

  • I don't remember it landing at Sunderland airport, so thanks for posting that clip, but I did look in the cockpit when we went to the NEAM when we went there years and years ago. Sad to hear it's suffering from vandalism though. On the bright side if you go on to Google Maps and switch to the satellite view of Sunderland, then look for the Nissan plant, the Vulcan doesn't half stand out just to the North of the factory!

  • well this is the plane that i have sat in many of times when i was a little nippa with my brother it used to be all we tagged along for,our old fella thought it was to be with him but i can tell u it was just to sit and play in this beauty. But the days of sitting in it has passed and its a shame thanx to bill and the rest its still about but in bad shape.

  • It was in the paper that the aircraft museum which is where the Vulcan is based, are holding an appeal to restore her (because she has been damaged by vandels) and if they get enough money they are going to try and make her flyable again!

  • sorry to burst the bubble but its not possible for her to fly again, there simply arent enough flightworthy spares and the airframe is well past being able to be returned to flight condition

  • xh588!!!! Have a look!!! She's up!!!

  • Its where the Nissan car plant now stands, apparently the police got a bit upset when this beast landed due to the risk of lorries being overturned on the A19.

  • i didnt even know we had an airport where was it based could u tell me ?

  • i was six when this thing went over Town End Farm. Boy did I shit a brick!

  • Why don't you come and see it at the North East Aircraft Museum , you'll not be able to go in it as the door is broken.

  • What door on the museum or the vulcan ?

  • Great vid.Friday 21 January 1983

  • Hiya, just to let you know I'm the little lad with the white and blue stripe t-cozzy hat at the young age of two, being held by my father, Richard Moore. Cheers, Phil Moore.
