I must have some kind of complex, because when she breaks down, thinking of that simple schoolroom shimmering in remembered afternoon light, I lose it every effing time. Lost innocence, separation, lonliness and death---these are his themes, and nobody does it better.
The manga for this is really good...the ending isn't clear either, but she certainly doesn't die like she may have here, they'll see each other eventually...hopefully. One guy did this...sugooooiii
Well...Her frame is heavy damaged but it was still working and at the newspaper Risitia still alive. I guess they'll fall buck to get recruit,so 2nd fleet(include Noboru) will attaches 1st fleet.
the art in the manga was much more beautiful. so i was a little surprised when i saw the anime. it reminded me of majin tantei nougami neuro manga art.
Great anime very romantic, sorry about my last post i guess i was in a bad mood that day or something, and for those of you who are looking for something more checkout, serial experiment lain.
I'd just like to put out there that there is no mention of time dilation in this anime. Time dilation is common theme in space travel sci-fi, however. So it is possible that the theme time dilation is meant to be implied. I had assumed that the ship could travel at the speed of light and that her text messages could not. This might account for Noburu's newspaper arriving first if Mikako's text was sent before the ship began it's return trip.
lmao, her text do go the speed of light, as they are transmited by light waves/particles the faster you travel the slower time progresses for you relative to people who are going normal speed
When is any of this mentioned in the film? I was merely providing another frame through which the film could be interpreted. I don't remember the film mentioning anything about her aging slower as a result of faster than light travel. It's been four months for me but if anything the only real focus of the film is the distance between the two characters and almost every other element of the story is left up to interpretation. Much like 5c/s or beyond the clouds.
Whenever she travels at light speed, time, technically, stops for her. When she traveled 8.6 light years at the speed of light, time elapses relatively slower for her than for Noboru, who is 'sitting still' on the Earth.
So while she felt only a couple hours had passed, he felt a couple years.
This is called "Time Dilation" and is explained in Einstein's theory of relativity.
Well, as far as I know - this is all there is. It's like a short story animated, done by amateurs. I first saw it on some anime night special documentary, and I doubt they would have included it if it wasn't finished - esp. since all the other stuff they showed were movies.
no they both age the same way, her fighting in space and him recieving the message are two different time periods, for example, the scene where she is fighting the tarsians is 8 years before he got the message
wah! so sad! Shinkai does it again! this style of ending is almost the same on 5 Centimeters Per Second, like a cliffhanger but makes u think so much. i cried much more on 5CPS. now imma watch The Place Promised In Our Early Days and see it still has that same style of ending. thanks for the upload! btw, she doesn't age like the guy cuz shes in space right?
I wish they would make a sequel!! I know that's dumb for me to say but it's just so sad at the ending. Even though in the manga, they give you a hint that h=they would see each other again, I still felt like the drama in this was so...touching. Yeah, anyway.
This is such a sweet vid! The characters don't look as well drawn as they do in the manga but, hey, they're by different people. I like the Manga better, though.
this one got to me the most the first time I saw it.. but anyway star wars is different.. like the last two thirds of it saved the movie. and episode 2 totally sucked.
I don't want to sound heartless, but this really didn't make me cry. I mean I felt sad that they are plagued by distance from each other - Classic Romanticism there, but it just sort of felt incomplete.
omg, this is soooo good, this is the only one that has actually made me cry, i said that i cried for mahoromatic, but that was an exageration, i was weeping over here, omg, that is soo good, omg, wow...this is a great anime, i love it, it has touched me, this will be on my greatest romantic animes ever list.
oohhhhhhhh so thats it!!!!! KGNE means kimi ga nozomu eien. Oh ok. Just today i saw the final chapter of KGNE and i can say its one of the best animes....mn imk talking of KGNE when i should be talking about hoshi no koe, oh well.

The faster you go towards the speed of light the slower you age at Light speed you don't age. So you can time travel but you can only go forward.

Just for your information. You can't say "They could have done better" to this one, cause its not "they" who made this.
This anime is by an amateur. One person(and possibly a few helpers) created this entire anime.
I wish more people knew about this fact when they watch this anime. : (

...It was made entirely on a laptop, so no, it couldnt have been better, considering it was made in 2001!!!

If I were to draw a comparison with another movie with a simple yet profound ending line, it'd be Apocalypse Now (either version).
"The horror...the horror."
