  • Gnome 3 + ubuntu studio theme, great combo :D.

  • if ubuntu updates to gnome 3 im just switching to fedora15 or 16 what ever is the latest now...

  • does this install over the unity interface or is it a login setting?

  • @Tamrowan its like installing office you can remove it again

  • @Tamrowan if you install gnome 3 shell,

Ubuntu unity shell will not work .

  • i mean linux fonts

  • one think i dont like ..the same text fonts...that font is .... obsolete. it doesnt look nice

  • I think i have an idea on how to install this whitout being stuck with those ughly themes... install kubuntu 11.04 and then install gnome DE and then upgrade to gnome 3 =D

  • it looks terrible, you need to change the theme somehow

  • @JoelB3783 xfce feels a lot like gnome 2, and you can remove the dock for it easily (I think the dock comes with xubuntu by default)

  • These new GUI's Are really pissing me off. What can i use for a simple GUI? That's Why I Lik(ED) GNome. I guess ill have to use KDE From now on

  • @JoelB3783 I have gotten so used to just slide my mouse up to the left to get to all my windows and desktops and easily close apps. I can't stand using Unity anymore, unfortunately.. I WISH Ubuntu could just go for Gnome 3 in 11.10 and it would get even better as there would've been more developers working on it.

IMO, Gnome 3= sweetest Linux desktop ever! :) I love it!

  • @JoelB3783

all you have to do is select classic from the login screen.. how hard is that.. ubuntu has given us choice to select between the old gui and the new one.. i can't understand why everyone is making such a fass about things everytime they try to add some color to linux..

  • @hammadahmad100 Not with 11.10 it's the future im angry about!

  • Actually, you don't have to move your mouse across. Just start typing if you want to use the search bar.

  • @rne1223 Thank you for the tip will try

  • @rne1223 Thank you for the tip will try

  • @rne1223 Thank you for the tip

  • @rne1223 will try that thanks

  • @rne1223 Yep, + you can just hit the windows key in between ctrl and alt to bring the menu up.

  • If you want in gnome 3 normal window style install gnome-themes-standard and remove gnome-accessability-themes, or else youre going to see old-fashioned window style, dont forget to install gnome-tweak-tool to configure the buttons to appear (and not only close)

  • If you press the "Windows/Special" key it shows your open windows (same as taking the mouse to the top left "activities" area. Then just click on the window you want. Saves having to go left to right all the time too. Gnome 3 looks good. Fedora have a slightly tweaked version of it as regards the workspace arrangement and include the minimise/maximise/close buttons as standard.

  • CAPS are on.... sneaky password! lol

  • @rbechard -))

  • i like gnome 3, but i think that having to go to the activities button to see my minimized windows is annoying, instead of just clicking on the panel like any other DE.

  • I used 3 gnome live cd and I was not able to change the gtk theme. Can you do that with this tool?

  • @danijelamolnar yes you can change the theme ok but then login logout to make it work.

  • Awesome! Gnome 3 looks nice.

  • will post links tomorrow
