It is truly remarkable just how much goddam dissonance can be produced by the concerted effort of an entire symphony orchestra willing to be so exploited, and tolerated by an audience of willing dupes who wish to be recognized as musically hip. That was anti-music at it's best, or worst, I don't even know which! Somehow, it reminds me of The Emperor's New Clothes. A ghastly waste of musicians!
And the victims of Hiroshima? That might be understood in another way, also!
@gregormann7 You know who else wishes to be recognized as hip? People who use words like Dissonance and ghastly. You know what else is anti-music? Somebody who thinks just cuz they know a lot about music they get to decide who listens to what. You know what reminds me of the emperor's new clothes? The rotten stench of a failed bitter musician who takes their failure out on people who don't enjoy exactly the same things....
@aryafsharm My good friend, you have me all wrong. I merely wished to express my own (for what it's worth), admittedly, visceral reaction to 'music' obviously designed to 'provoke.' I personally despise this sort of 'art' in principle. But I would not, and haven't attempted to, presume to "decide who listens to what." Where did I do that? If you love this 'music' then by all means go buy ten copies and give them to all your avante garde friends. I'd have no problem with that! Peace.
@gregormann7 I apologize for my harsh tone (aka being an asshole). It's just a general hatred I have developed for people who comment on things they dislike (which I did myself to your comment, and I apologize) But for what it's worth, I did not particularly love this or any ambient/avant garde music. I just listen to everything and among them is Aphex twin (whose ambient works I usually skip over to get to the good stuff) and you have to admit it's fascinating how he uses an orchestra :)
@aryafsharm Hey, you're definitely cool for saying that. I happily accept, and on re-reading my own words above feel that perhaps I owe you one as well. It was an emotional outburst that may have been a bit over the top, I admit. But we music-lovers tend to be that way! haha Sorry for seeming to stick my finger in YOUR musical eye. I didn't mean it that way. So, as Ringo would say, Peace and Love!
@aryafsharm And regarding your final comment, I can't even begin to imagine how that could be written down, let alone played!!! hahaha It IS fascinating, to say the least!
Było cudownie. Interpretacja przez Aphexa "Threnody For The Victims of Hiroshima" totalnie genialna.

Why is this credited to Aphex Twin? It's a Penderecki piece for strings. What did James do? Lights & video? Does that make it an AT performance?

@nrleas
Aphex remixed the piece as well.

@nrleas You're partly right. The correct title for this is "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima Remix"

"ligeti-sh" You mean as in 2001 soundtrack type stuff, well bring it on, I love that squeamish trippy kind of stuff.

Sounds a bit too "ligeti-sh" to me anyway. But great rework of the original piece;
