I had protein working for a while, but now the options menu when you hold start won't work. It won't let me select load sample, record sample or live input. any suggestions? everything is in my main card directory.

Actually I ended up getting it working. I put the samples directory and the .nds file in my main directory rather than leaving it all in the folder and copying it over. I have to say though, I'm a little disappointed. Not with the program, it's amazing! If you think you have no skills, you should here me. If I could scratch half as good as you I'd be getting somewhere!

download it from the link, unzip it with winrar directly to the root of your memory card and it would work fine.

chuck in mem card in the R4 or what ever you use (this homebrew is already patched for R4 use so its easiest with one) and then load it.

fine the folder in your ds and open the .nds file

should work fine, there are some bugs but dont worry about them, just learn not to use them

Make sure you got all the correct files in the Root of your micro SD card, i have a R4 and it works perfect for me. Also make sure you got the latest firmware.

do you have a flashcart? you need to know what a flashcart is first. if you don't know what it is, search "cyclo ds" or "R4" on youtube. those are brands of flashcarts.

As a DJ I love this program. Getting a quick practice in the car is so convenient. I wouldn't dare use this at a real party (well maybe in future updates :p) but its nice practice on-the-go. For me this the most useful homebrew on the DS. Keep up the good work!

Hmmm... you must have never heard of DS homebrew before. The DS is certainly capable of those effects with the touchscreen... scratching is just fancy timeshifting, bitcrusher means reducing the sample rate, etc. Also, if the thought of having a pocket-sized device that can manipulate audio just isn't for you, then you're the one being close-minded here. I don't know why some DJs are so reluctant to change, especially when it involves not using vinyl anymore...

The wav must be 44khz, 16-bit and mono to work. I tried 8-bit to save space, but it doesn't work. But used the same specifications than the files it comes with and works great.

Try to make small sounds, because the DS memory is very limited (4 Mb only).

16bits mono/stereo .wav samples are supported - and as samples are streaming from the cartridge, there's no such a limitation of 4MB.
