I've already commented on this previously,but the more I listen to your version the better it sounds.I did say I would upload my version of it,but being a technophobe can't work out how to save the recording into something Youtube will recognise!Have you tried 'The ink in the well','Nightporter',or any other Japan/Sylvian?It's not often I feel the need to bolster someone's ego,but this really IS good!

I love David Sylvian's work and so I was a little wary when I clicked on this video because I felt that this wonderfully sombre and ethereal song wouldn't lend itself very easily to reinterpretation. I've got to say, though, that this is a great cover and the timbre and character of your voice suited the song completely. I also really appreciated how you interpreted aspects of the Mark Isham flugelhorn solo on your guitar in the mid section; that was a really nice touch. Kudos.

Wow. What's really makes the difference between this and the other attempts at this classic song, and makes it great, is the way you clealy immerse yourself in it and make it personal to you. You don't try to be David Sylvian. As for what you do with the instrumental solo section - that's is a stroke of pure inspiration, musicianship and artistry. I'm now going to listen to some more of your work.

Well that was good ! One of the few DS covers I've manged to listen to right to the end. Impressed (& envious !) A really decent cover. You wouldn't happen to have the cords you might be able to send over would you please ? Bit of a newbie to the guitar and fancy having a go but what you being left handed makes it difficult to translate the cords easily ! Thanks in advance

Thanks very much for your nice comment. I learnt the song by ear and have not as yet written down the chords, or know if they are right. I'm not a tab writer but if I get time I will put the chords down and perhaps try and put some kind of tab for the solo and send them to you .. but don't hold your breath for too quick a response. :-)

Thanks, you are very kind. Sylvians voice is indeed sublime, just so rich. I always try and just be me! There is no point in doing a second rate copy of his voice (and mine would have been). Also I want some of my personality to come out in the playing and I need to perform it as me for that to happen - hopefully!

Thanks, I often wonder how many people listen to the whole song, now I know at least one has! :-) Although I did listen to Japan it was really the first two Sylvian solo albums that got me hooked, so sparse and emotive, not to mention that my guitaring hero of the time Bill Nelson played on the second one...

Merci, vous êtes trop aimable, you are so right his songs are usually just too spacious, or conversely too complex to just play a guitar to. I learnt this by ear, so I have no idea how correct it is but I always like to try and arange it so it has more than just the chords and the horn solo is just so beautiful, I had to try and incorporate it! I will have a good look at your channel when I get chance.
