Eh, within the few couple seconds, cats tend to splay their legs outward and their fall slows. The process takes about 6 stories before they reach their slowest rate of descent which is slow enough to survive with no real injuries to speak of. So technically the cat should be decelerating, not accelerating. Seeing as how house cats are descended from burrowing desert cats, why did they evolve that trait? Maybe primitive cave dwelling screwheads had portal devices.
