placing the bible in every hotel room is not forcing a religion down your throat. thats why they put them in the desk drawers usually, in case you dont want to read it. it is only just as offensive as driving by a church on the way to work. no one is forcing you to go in and "conform" to their religion, its just there if you choose to use it.
I remember going to a Japanese Hotel (in America) and finding, for the first time ever, the Bible and a book about Buddhism. My brother and I actually had fun looking through it and learning about what other people believed and I think that people should have the choice of what they want to be available to them. Just ask people when they check in if they want a religious book, and if so, which one. They take it with them and it gets removed during cleaning. Very simple and equal to everyone.

The tenure of all these comments disturbs me. It is obvious to me that racism is still a huge issue in this country. And here we are again trying to justify it just because its coming from a black man. Racism should not be acceptable from anyone, be they black, white, or any other color. I don't know how anyone can justify attending a church where such messages are tolerated. Wright's teachings are contrary to Jesus' message and Christians should hold him accountable for his words.
While I was in New York for work, I chose to go to a church nearby and get acquainted with the pastor since I was going to stay in the city for at least 8 months. While I was their I met some of the church goers and everybody seemed courteous and nice. The next 6 months I went to church diligently and made a few friends. Everything seemed fine and dandy until one day the pastor started a rant about 9/11 and other tragedies being a punishment from god because of our acceptance of gays and jews.
Wright is enjoying some immunity blacks have in making racially divisive comments and not being taken to task for it. If a similar situation applied to McCain this campaign would be all over.

I disagree with Barbara that Wright advances ANY kind of bigoted agenda. Joyce is correct that Wright was referring to the ancient Roman empire which was extremely violent, hateful, and dictatorial -- it was an oppressive, slavery based colonialist empire which brutally & violently oppressed it's own citizens- it killed JESUS! @shieldsff Only reason Jesus was killed was becuase the current emperor of Rome (Which the two men who wrote accounts in the bible mention King Herod who died 4 BC, 37 years before Jesus was crucified) was afraid he would cause a revolt. Occurs many times throughout history. Power struggles are what they are. Don't condem Rome as they do. Most of the civilized world would not exist if not for Rome.

placing the bible in every hotel room is not forcing a religion down your throat. thats why they put them in the desk drawers usually, in case you dont want to read it. it is only just as offensive as driving by a church on the way to work. no one is forcing you to go in and "conform" to their religion, its just there if you choose to use it.

I remember going to a Japanese Hotel (in America) and finding, for the first time ever, the Bible and a book about Buddhism. My brother and I actually had fun looking through it and learning about what other people believed and I think that people should have the choice of what they want to be available to them. Just ask people when they check in if they want a religious book, and if so, which one. They take it with them and it gets removed during cleaning. Very simple and equal to everyone.

@stina2bina with all due respect, you are responding to the issue as if the Hotel provides the Bible, they don't. even if it wasn't a religious object...if it was a business card, and the Hotel has a corkboard in the lobby where they permit me to leave it if I wish, then I am more than right to do so, as is any other person with their business card....and as is any other faith allowed to take the initiative and invest in providing Korans, Baghavad Gitas, Tanakhs etc. anywhere they are permitted

Well, county fairs, Middle America, and whitewashed towns are quickly becoming memories of the old heartlands of America. It just so happens that half of the US are so reminiscent about it. Even with minority races and contempoary influences infiltrating the fabric of America, I like the fact that some people would like to remember the good old times, But to implement its themes and especially the 'good old times' bigoted (compared to today's world) morals and values... While I was in New York for work, I chose to go to a church nearby and get acquainted with the pastor since I was going to stay in the city for at least 8 months. While I was their I met some of the church goers and everybody seemed courteous and nice. The next 6 months I went to church diligently and made a few friends. Everything seemed fine and dandy until one day the pastor started a rant about 9/11 and other tragedies being a punishment from god because of our acceptance of gays and jews.

The definition of racism requires inferiority superiority. Therefore, point out a particular characteristic of a race isn't racism. It's point it out and saying it's bad/ and form that concluding that that race is universally lower/higher. I'm not sure the Italian comment does that... Gideons International distributes free Bibles everywhere. This includes putting Bibles into a number of hotel rooms. There is no cost to the hotels. Gideons International does not distribute to just Christians but also to anyone who will accept it.

Jeremiah Wright is another Jim Jones....His only concerns are what he can GAIN for himself....He has many IGNORANT followers that believe whatever he says to be the truth.....just as Jim Jones had many Ignorant followers that believed his every word!

At one time I did like Obama. Especially since his campaign slogan was centered around "change & coming together". Now I have been completly turn off by Obama since his association with racist individuals such as the Rev Wright and some of his ties with the racist org, such as the Nation of Islam. How to you continue to want to bring people together when you associate with such people for so many years? What I hate most is how people make excuses for this behavior.

Observer- If you had taken the time to research, and I invite you to look it up here on youtube the infamous Jeremiah Wright sermon you would have discovered that in fact Rev. Wright was qouting an American Ambassador who appeared Fix News. So stop being a bigot, and in the end. what he said is correct, the US has killed millions and never even batted an eye. And yes the roosted has come home to roost

i'm sorry i'm not ignorant, nor am i a follower.i'm very capable of thinking for myself. and yes any black man that served in the armed forces during wright's era should be applauded! you know as well as i do, that those men were treated like dirt, but yet there were expected to defend the honor of a country that didn't honor them as human beings.

it wasn't until the 60's that segregation ended and voting rights were established for black people...and that was only 40+ years ago (which isn't that long ago). so you can't expect everyone to be so excited about the flag when it was/is a complete contradiction of what it supposedly stands for.

the american flag/pledge of allegiance did not represent freedom for black people because blacks were seen as less than human. so, for one moment try to put yourself in someone else's shoes and figure what makes that person feel the way they do.

Obama needs to prove to the American people that he is willing to salute our American Flag in honor of the many people who have died to obtain and protect the freedom we all enjoy. Regardless of his religion, race, etc. he still should stand and place his hand over his heart and offer a pledge of allegiance to the flag of the U S of America. If not, he needs to go join the tribe of Osama in the foot hills of Afghanistan or at least get the hell out of American Politics and take his wife with him

Your an idiot DLS-1957, really. What needs to happen is inner city schools need to be equalized, so EVERYONE can get the same level of education no matter where they live, just like in Japan. The Japanese spend less and look at them...re-zone the inner cities so there is not a liquor store on every corner.

I do help these children out....I work 40+ hours a week and pay taxes....my tax money helps pay for these children's education, food, clothes and housing...electricity, heat ect...whatever their needs MY tax money helps take care of the children of deadbeat fathers!!!!!!!!!
So the way I see it, I take care of them more so than their sperm donor!

By building a $1.6 million house for him and his wife to retire to, rather than using the money he's amassed to bless the poor, and support missionary efforts in America and abroad, Wright has plainly stated that he is serving HIMSELF, NOT God or others. He will be judged by God for his misplaced priorities.

Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder. Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America, but she elevates black over white in her world.Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted with one another.This is a very divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama administration.
