Hi Melanie congratulations on the blog. It would be intresting to know how you are progressing post this video, about 5 years back. Again, thanks for sharing!

wow, amazing....you can get as fat as you want ,get up to 300 or 400 lbs...but hey insurance should cover it!! Hey, i cant control my fat ass from eating so, lets lap band my stomach so,I can eat like a ''normal'' person! I find this disgusting!!
She leaves really stupid, mean comments on a lot of videos. I think she's... a lot younger than her profile says. I mean she posted complaining that she couldn't get the gastric bypass for needing to lose 40 pounds. *_*
Anyway, just letting you know, I'd ignore what she's saying. ;-)
With all due respect, I think you might want to do some actual research on the surgery itself and the hundreds of thousands of people who have been successful at becoming more healthy BECAUSE of the surgery, and because in order for it to be a success, you MUST EXERCISE and MUST EAT HEALTHIER. If you have statistics that show that gastric bypass patients have a shorter life span, then please do share it. I take it you're a thin person, otherwise you wouldn't say we aren't called fatty.

don't do surgery!! It's the .. bad way out? VERY DANGEROUS, NOT HEALTHY. Try excercising, it really will help, you will look better in the long run and live longer. Guys, being skinny in some ways is worse than being fat, people who are skinny and want to be normal sized, get YOUR SO SKINNY , or TWIG, all the time. No one says FATTY to fat person, well some do, but skinny people will have it worse a lot of the times.
I challenge you to take a look at a video called "Fat People Aren't Funny" and read all of the hatred for the obese population. Many people say we should be shot. I'm sure thin people get teased too, but don't negate the criticism and hatred we see on a daily basis.
if i was here with you i have been loved you also if you was as in the video. becz people don't needs skins, but charachters. and... you're so pretty...
You are really beautiful. Have you ever heard the "you have such a beautiful face" grrr i hate that so much. Im getting banded sept 2nd and i cant wait!!
OMG, this sounds like my first video, lol. I must subscribe now and watch the rest of ur videos! Being that this one is from last year, I look forward to seeing ur progress.
Hi you are so beautiful and really know what you are talking about. I am an 18 year old girl who i going to have gastrobypass in January of 2009. I have alot of health problems and that is the main reason i am doing the surgery. You have made me feel better and i hope you succed well. you are very smart and have a great personality. you will go far in life. thanks for posting the video. it gave me some hope
Hey Mel! Glad to see ur doing work, but let me tell you now do not go for the mini... trust me talk to a local doc about that! *wink* Also, with a lap band u have got to rememeber you have to go back in around once or twice a year to get the lapband re tightened... keep that in mind too! My gastric surg is June 11th wish me luck.
You are great! I am 26 and considering it and I really think you are a cool girl, beautiful, great personality, and you sound very well educated on the subject. I appreciate that. I'm eager to see what you went with.
Wow! What an amazing woman! Every bit as intelligent and literate as she is beautiful. Her sunny personality shines through, too...she would be so much fun to date and to talk to, and get to know!
I'm a 25 year-old guy, and I think this woman is beautiful. Sexy. Hot. And inwardly attractive too. I'd go out with her in a heartbeat! Why does she need to lose weight? She's gorgeous.
She sounds quite intelligent and switched. A lot of common sense - no self-pity or whinging. Wow. I admire her already. Why don't these sorts of women exist down here in Australia?
I can't even tell you how much I appreciate your words. THANK YOU! :) They don't exist in Australia? Hmmm...I guess that makes the song, "Wish they all could be California girrrrrrls." ring true! lol
Have had the lap band for almost 2 years. Weight loss of 65 + pounds. Loss is slow and steady, it forces you to eat slow, chew thoroughly, when pouch is full, you feel full, period. Some days you are hungrier than others, cannot really explain that, but overall do not have that feeling of constantly starving. Best thing I hav ever done. Go for it. Maintenance is mininal once you are adjustd correctly. It is much safer that gastric bypass. Goo luck.
Beauty is non-active. A pleasant hello and a beautiful smile are a beautiful combination. More beautiful than beauty itself. You are a beautiful woman. I love your spirit. You are very pretty. Thanks for posting.
I am a 32 year old mother of 4 and I am about to under go the Gastric Bypass surgery. I am scheduled for surgery the beginning of July 2008. I am excited but scared too! I am doing this for my 4 beautiful boys but at the same time I will be risking my life for this surgery. If something happens to me then where will that leave my children. Watching your videos helps with my process. Thankx
What a wonderful informative vlog! You are a natural behind the camera...I get so nervous and say all the wrong things in mine and have to do them over and over again...lol Good luck with your journey. I too am on this journey should have wls in Dec. Take care! Kellie
Hi...just wanted to say good luck to you...I am having the gastric bypass done on Monday, Nov 12th...I will post an updated video soon to share my experience.....
Just my .02 ~ I think you will experience the greatest change if you just change your diet slowly and very slowly incorporate exercise. The best success comes from a lifstyle change, and that takes time. There is no safe way to rapidly lose weight. Patience is everything! I used to be a bit over 30% bodyfat, and it's taken me 3 years to get to a healthy 15% or so. But I know that in another couple years I will be fit and very healthy so long as I just keep doing what I'm doing.
I'm the only one in my immediate family that DIDN'T get a lap band. My family would say they felt full on less, but if they ate too much (out of habit) they puke. The band forces you to eat slow and eat small. It won't help you if you can't change your eating habits. My dad couldn't change his eating habits and wound up having to get the band removed due to complications.
Your such a pretty Young lady! Rethink the surgery... I understand your desire to loose the weight. Your young pretty Very Pretty I would say! Try to loose the correct way first. I too feel your beautiful just as you are! but if loosing weight is what you want do it with diet & excersize.
I hope you learn to love yourself and your body the way you are. There is nothing wrong with being a big woman as long as you eat right and excersise.
"A recent study by researchers at the University of Washington found that 1 in 50 people die within one month of having gastric bypass surgery, and that figure jumps nearly fivefold if the surgeon is inexperienced." -The Early Show, CBS News
The LapBand is a little safer, but do you really want to risk your life for a vanity surgery?
It's actually alot safer. Slower weight loss so it's healthier, and the risks are small compared to gastric bypass (especially malnutrition and death rates). Another thing is that the lap band can be removed quick if there is something wrong. The weightloss surgeries are not vanity surgeries; if you are doing it of your own accord, maybe vanity. But if your insurance will cover it, it means that you may not have the time left to lose your weight before you start having serious health problems.

Hey sweety! The band just restricts a huge amount of food intake. And as far as the hanging skin...it is fixable.. it is better than being fat! I am thinking about doing this too.
This is VERY true...and something I've thought about. But is losing the weight so FAST the HEALTHIEST way to go? I have a feeling the surgeon will recommend GB due to the amount of weight I need to lose. Keepin my options open!! :) Thanks for the comment!
Well loosing weight that fast is not the best way, but i think it is ok for a small period. which is all u need to drop the weight. I am paying 5000 US dollars here in India to get this done. I am scared... but I dont even remember what thin feels like anymore. Wish me luck.... let me know ur progress.... muah!
Hi Melanie, thanks for your comment on my video! I think its great you're so honest and up front about how you got to where you are today, and you certainly sound like you've done your research on LBS - very interesting to hear you talk!
Hey hon! I try to be as open and as honest as possible. I'd be robbing myself of a pure experience if I did it any other way. It takes courage to be on here talking about weight loss at ALL. So you should be proud of yourself, too. :) Keep the videos comin! As another WLS youtuber told me, "We need all the support we can get!"
You are very young, I was told by my surgeon the lap band was no good for me because at my age (28) I would need it replaced 2-3 times in my life because the band only lasts about 12 years
Hi massagegoddess..I'm not sure how many different companies manufacture the lap band..however, most surgeons say that the lapband should last a lifetime provided proper care is taken.
The idea of possibly needing fills and adjustments for the rest of my life, let ALONE having the band replaced, is something to consider. To me, that's the biggest downfall of the band....the continuous maintenance. A permenant solution is much more pleasing to me, but the Gastric Bypass worries me. However, when I look at everyone's success stories, I'm much more open to the idea.
Hi there, please have a look at my video and if you have any questions then i am happy to help. My website addy is at the end of the video and is the best way to get in touch.
Pretty much all I feel when I eat is how full my small pouch is. I don't feel the emptiness of my larger stomach. It's pretty great. The head hunger is still there and some days I can eat way more than others. Definitley tighter in the morning (eating is harder) but on the average I am eating 1/3 to 1/2 of what I ate before and still on track and losing weight! Let me know if you wanna shoot the sh*t or whatever. You seem down to earth and smart about it, I think we'd get along :)
Yes you are a very beautiful woman. Thanx for sharing your journey with the world. Your attitude is amazing. I am one of those who can't wait to see more along the way!
