This is very sad !!! One must be very very careful with natural resources and shouldn't misunderstand any possible adverse impact with adventure and fun. Waterfalls are beautful resources but playing with falls with no safe-guards, rescue arrangements, could be very dangerous. I had a very similar experience in past and was rescued by my friends, I have learned from my mistakes to not to hunt adventure in falls and enjoy beauty from feets away.
Hmm...in America, we call this phenomenon flash floods. We also experience it with creeks, rivers, etc. Even in the dry plain states, it happens very quickly from a pouring rain miles away.
not visiting waterfalls in rainy seasons is a bad advise.. because the fullest beauty can be seen that time only.. that's a totaly different and beautiful world in monsoons.. but the advice should be 'DO NOT VENTURE IN TO THE WATERS NEAR ROCKY FORCEFUL RIVERS AND WATER FALLS that too specially in monsoons'
We should enjoy any beauty with limits.. over eating sweet also results in a bitter aftertaste you know !!
that's why that falls was called mag-aso becz "ASO" means "smoke" in our area. bcoz evertime that happens it is smokin aroung bcoz of the rushing waters.
every time the water on that falls become blurr its a sign that someone will be taken out. too bad they didnt believe in it. they are many people who died there and their bodies were found on the bottom stuck on a stone. which is impossible. and the divers who recover that said stuckd body saw a giant fish at bottom which is so big that the eyes is as big as a cup, only from the other municipality swims on that falls. the local people who live there doesn't go there. believe me. i
Hmm...where I come from, the "sudden rush of water" is simply called a flash flood, usually caused by a storm upstream in another area that takes a while to filter down.
You know, honestly what it's more surprising is how in the video it said that they left on the last bus to the city and they did not stay to see if the guys were alive or even made an attemp to go look. Maybe it's just me???
They did stay for more than an hour to see if those guys were ok...
If its me, I will not know how to 'attempt to go look' to see if those guys survived other than to hang around to see if they're swept away. No one saw them being swept away, so, I understand that's why they did not see the urgency of calling for formal help, 911 etc...
Still, its better to play it safe, the sudden gush of water is real, its still better to be aware of them and be careful.
@erictan10110 The sudden gush of water usually appear during or after a heavy rain.
Whatever that has happened cannot be reversed. What we can do now is to educate more people of the sudden gush of water phenomena prone to waterfalls in order to prevent future victims to the falls.
Since the Kampar falls claimed victims every year, the local authorities didn't do much to warn of its danger.
Previouly, there was a was a retention dam erested on the yop, and they dismantled it. What I beleive was the leaves and twigs got clogged and become a 'dam' and the pressure was too much to bear and it suddenly broke and all the water suddenly started gushing down. I was in Kampar at that time and my friend left halfway of our conversation, to look for bodies and survivors. IF only the authorities put up more warning signs to prevent this type of tragedy from occurring again.
Owh my gosh! Ghim Chnieh was my friend! His death was so horrible which shook almost everybody's lives in the university! RIP to him and the others who perished as well as those 2 guys from Mag-Aso Falls... :-(
@jfkdallas63 Sorry for your friend. If he was aware of the sudden gush of water prone to waterfalls during rainy seasons, he might still be alive. Care to help me spread this awareness to more people?
Thank you so much...I'm still not over his death...It's so tragic and devastating...I have posted similar videos on the danger of waterfalls-after-rain...I had met lots of people and enhanced the awareness on such incident...

My condolences to their family
And I have something to comment cos I'm from Kampar.
1) What are they doing there at 5pm? Normally I'll be leaving that place around 4pm.
2) IN case you all don't know, that waterfall will have tragedy every year. It's weather you believe it or not.
