  • I have always liked Filipino food. I had the pleasure of spending my Christmas in Cebu. I ate good!

  • wow they got chicken balls he shudve tasted "squid balls" taste gud too. i luv it whn he said "tapioca balls" thats "Ta-ho" lol goodness i miss the authentic pinoy food!!!!!

  • Please, so many haters :( Am I the only one here who found Augusto's story poignant? It's actually quite introspective and it's wonderful how No Reservations treated it. I loved seeing how *both* Anthony and Augusto learned a little bit more about the Philippines.

And what's the big deal about Chinatown? Filipino food is a fusion of Indo-Chino-Malay-Spanish cultures anyway.

  • Adobo my balls.

  • KAMAYAN resto, andoks, milas lechon, yung karinderya sa kanto...bakit chinese town.

  • Comment removed

  • Why Manila Chinatown?

    I do not get it.

  • @Therese231999 korek pa...kaasar ang daming food sa pinas....

  • This totally made me wana go to the phillipines

never wanted to before. good stuff

  • This totally made me wana go to the phillipines

  • This totally made me wana go to the phillipines

  • hahahha..oo nga dinala sa china town???

  • The tour guide is an idiot.

  • anak ng sino ba tong tour guide na to? filipino food chicken balls? suman pakain mo! pansit can mean anything? ang sisig pwede din bang tawagin na pansiT?

  • anak ng sino ba tong tour guide na to? filipino food chicken balls? suman pakain mo!

  • Phillippine food?? why nasa china town???

di kaya naligaw ka lang?? hahaha ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮

  • Show you the real philippines; RETARDED, you brought him to china town. dumbfck.

  • Bourdain's a chef this a food show...they should've gotten a popular urban foodie instead; not this guy. I mean his old manila tours are GREAT but he's just NOT the right person to show an american the taste of the philippines, he's gonna start thinking our country is Chinese influenced ONLY when its a mixture of EVERYTHING.

  • ahh i wanna go back to philippines now. im home sick :(

  • could have a great segment on the Fireman Pastry man ,,,itself Philippines so much great inspiration of pride

  • shocks nagutom ako

  • Well it takes one born and raised in the philippines to actually let you see how it is, and what are the people like. :)

  • He should have gotten Celdran as his tour guide. I enjoyed Old Manila woks. I couldnt eat properly though, because Celdran cracked me up everytime with his jokes and funny remarks.

  • Can you adobo a balut?

Anthony probably liked the red light district the most.

I like to adobo those hot Manila hot girls...wow.

  • two things about philippine cuisine that i noticed: one, its very regional and insular...the same dish may taste one way in the north and another way in other regions or islands. and two: the best dishes are found not in restaurants but in homecooking....lolas and nanays know best LOL

  • THEY GOT A BALIKBAYAN TO SHOWCASE FILIPINO CUISINE....GREAT... PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT

  • If there is one thing about Philippine cuisine that I like it's Chicken Inasal. It sucks that Bourdain did not try one.

  • who's the guide? :|

  • I agree with most commentators. Sana nag isip muna ung tourist guide. Bakit pa sa chinatown?

  • I haven't yet tried Filipino cuisine before. How does it taste like?

  • the guide's gotta be gay

  • kikiam?

  • bat walang tinola?

  • Taho is not breakfast! It's a freakin' snack.

  • stupid tour guide

  • I agree with most of the comments here that this tour guide is an idiot. There are far more better dishes.

  • Stupid tour guide said that jeepneys used to be drawn by horses. What an A-hole.

  • The first guy sucked. We got a kid that doesn't know anything about the country and a food critic that obviously didn't choose the most common foods eatten and well represented.

  • "They tend to like us in the Philippines in the measured way one likes someone who set you free from an enemy but flattened your country while doing it." ==> Ahahaha, what a wonderfully witty way of summarizing our relationship with the US :))

  • @NicoleTirona Hi, Is that how most Philippine people feel about the USA?

  • @buyerofsorts Hello :D I *cannot* speak for others :) I'll be honest though and admit that I do have that SOMETIMES in the back of my mind but I don't let it affect the way I deal with/relate to Americans (or previous colonizers, for that matter :D). I really just liked the witty way he put it :))

  • @buyerofsorts : Manila *was* practically pulverized during the Liberation :( But it's pointless blaming Americans and the Japanese - that's the price of war, it's the past, it's DONE. History Channel had a beautiful docu. on the Battle of Manila. I hope you get to watch it :) It ends poignantly with a survivor saying, "We must learn to FORGIVE." I agree :)

  • @NicoleTirona I don't like to watch war docs on the history channel. I find it very depressing to know that human beings do that sort of thing to one another. Anyway, do you actualy live in the Philippines?

  • @buyerofsorts True. But this one was made very well. Respectful, if I can use that description. Yes, I live in the Philippines :)

  • @NicoleTirona Oh great! Can I ask you some questions please?

  • @buyerofsorts Sure, just send me an email :)

  • @NicoleTirona Thank you. Well, I know a guy that lives in the Philippines and hes married to a nice Philippina girl. He highly reccomends that I come out there to meet someone and move her back here to Arizona with me. He says theres a lot of lovely girls out there with good attitudes who appriciate when a man is good too them.

Is what he says basically true? Do you know what I mean?

  • @buyerofsorts : It's not as easy as that - you make it sound like you're shopping :)) I've heard of both horror stories and happy ones when it comes to such arrangements so I suggest you touch base *first* with your friend who's married to a Filipina :)

  • @NicoleTirona Well I guess I am shopping in a sense. Everyone shops when it comes to love and relationships right? :)

  • @buyerofsorts : I suppose. Still, I suggest you talk to your friend first.

  • @NicoleTirona Talk to him? About what? We already talked and he thinks I should come out there. Did you miss that part? :)

  • @buyerofsorts Also, do remember that there are *still* a lot of Filipinas who come from conservative, old-fashioned families and an "arrangement" such as the one you described might be too unconventional for them. We are also very clannish. So if you fail to treat your Filipina wife well, if you're cruel to her, expect pretty much her whole clan to pray for your slow and painful demise :) And trust me, Filipinos are a religious lot - we pray very well, and very often :))

  • @NicoleTirona Ok, so let me get this straight. If I"m cruel to my new wife, I'll have the entire family praying that I die. Hmm... Well I did plan on being cruel but now I might just have to rethink that.... But tell me, if a man was cruel to his wife, can't she just leave? I know divorce is not done much with the Philippine race but still...

  • @buyerofsorts That was a joke. (Though still true, hehe.) Sometimes the husband can make it impossible for the wife to leave. But I guess there comes a tipping point when the wife can no longer stand it -- hurray for her if she's able to get out of a miserable relationship.

  • Can any true Pinoy tell me how the Filipino tourism industry has been affected since last years Hong Kong tour bus hostage massacre. Im really curious to know, thanks.

  • @devilhunterred It was never affected, in fact the Philippine Tourism department shows an increase in Tourists who visited the country.

  • @MonMon298 But wasn't Hong Kong the largest tourism market for Philippines?

  • @devilhunterred It's actually Sout Korea :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MonMon298 But surely Hong Kong was one of the major source of tourists to the Phillippines, as well as Mainland China. Total absence of tourists from those two places must have affected the tourism industry quite significantly.

  • @devilhunterred Filipinos honestly do not care. With or without the bus incident, people will travel to the Philippines if they really want to. If they dont then so be it. The issue whether the Chinese wanted to visit the Philippines or not is never an issue here.

  • @devilhunterred Iet me gove you a gossip. There is a hushed up gossip here that during the hostage crisis when the president of the Philippines was nowhere to be found, some say he was at Diamond Hotel being entertained by foreign prostitutes.

  • @MonMon298 Well...thats not exactly news is it lol. I dont think there is any president or prime minister in the world that doesnt use their wealth and power to hire whores every once in a while.

  • napaka tanga netong tour guide bobo ka tang ina mo. filipino food ang hinahanap dinala mo sa china town. kundi kaba naman tanga sana dinala mo sa laloma para makatikim ng lechon

  • Most of us Filipinos from our homeland cannot relate with most Filipino Americans including Agusto. Anthony Bourdain is better off with a true Filipino host who knows about the culture and food instead of a Fil-Am.

  • The problem with most Filipinos is... they don't give their best, instead they have this "bahala na" value...

You know we are described poorly abroad, so get rid of that "bahala na" and let's add in "kulang pa 'to, dagdagan natin"... D:

  • @UchiMikoii I'm with you mate. The "bahala na" behavior will never take us anywhere. It'll only leave us in the same shit hole.

  • I like chicken adobo and all but on a culinary note; maybe the cuisine of the Philippines really is an acquired taste. I mean, the food has the influence of Spanish, Chinese and Arabic cultures, a large part of the population speaks English which should help massively in tourism, Filipinos are the largest asian group in America, yet, the Philippine cuisine is not in huge favor....maybe Filipino food is great only to Filipinos and some expats??? Thai food is loved. What gives? I dunno.

  • Are Fil-Ams really that detached from the motherland?(I've never seen this from any person that wasn't adopted) I think the problem with this episode outside of Augusto's lack of well...anything actually touching on Filipinos/Philippines(Bourdain being confused on the identity issue of the Philippines in the end) was the strange aloofness of the guides, Augusto AND his extended family. Uncomfortable episode for Bourdain and his viewers.

  • the other guide was even worst ! sorry anthony but the 2 knuckleheads didnt know there left from there right !!!!!

  • augusto you should have stayed in long island you represented the philippines in the worst way !!!!!

  • Volume level is way too low.

  • im one of ur million fans, thanks for coming in philippines... love u anthony bourdain..

  • we could have gotten a better guide.

  • miss the pinoy's food!

  • apparently, the tour guide was too busy trying to impress Bourdain with expensive fare. shrimp adobo? that's not only a waste of good shrimp, but also downright boring. many people here could do so much better than that douche, and im pretty sure a lot of us don't have food touring as a living, as opposed to "that" person. >_> DISAPPOINTEEEED

  • I agree this episode as an absolute bore. Probably one of Bourdain's worse. However, everyone had to expect this was not going to be a good episode. The Philippines is like England, neither country comes to mind when you think of good food. How many English Restaurants do you hear of? How many Filipino Restaurants are there? Now Thai people, I know there is not a lot of them in the USA but yet there seems to be 2-10 of them in every small town.

  • meant there must be 2-10 Thai Restaurants in every town in America/

  • Take him to Mindanao or Cebu and see how bountiful/affordable the food is. The quality of the catch is good. If its Manila then he should have shown HOW COSMOPOLITAN WE ARE! You will find prices here that are better than anywhere in the world. You will find a unique friendliness and hospitality that is worthy of attention. There are other parts of the world that do not have this, i'm sad that our nation is poorly portrayed abroad! Please give honor to the country and do it well!

  • Prawn adobo? I have lived in the Philippines my whole life. A PURE FILIPINO would have chosen chicken/pork or LAMB adobo. Hopefully Bourdain would get a round 2 in the Philippines and our nations HONOR/VALOR for the CULINARY prowless can be restored.

WE LIKE TO EAT and those were the meals we offered ANTHONY BOURDAIN? FISHBALLS? GIVE HIM KWEK KWEK GIVE HIM ISAW! SURPRISE HIM. Pity he chose a mediocre tour guide who just is as good as the FOOD THEY ATE!

THERE ARE BETTER PLACES IN BINONDO!

  • Comment removed

  • This Agusto fella is SHIT, he doesn't know anything, he took bourdain nowhere & His family lack the cooking ability too!!

  • that guide is devouring the food. clearly he chose only HIS favorites. not EVERY FILIPINOS' favorites. :\

  • Adobo Shrimps and Pinakbet? If he wants to experience real Filipino food, the guide should have given him tinola, sinigang and pork adobo. Real national foods of Filipino people.

  • @yf310 cause Ilokano food is the best.

  • I'm Filipino. Culinary speaking: so the Philippine table is not as diverse as that of Greece for instance. But man! It sure isn't as boring as this! You missed out!

  • Bobby Chinn had a better tour in Manila than Tony. tsk, tsk...

  • I was hoping Anthony would visit at least Boracay

  • Anthony: pancit means noodles right?

Tour Guide: Yes Pancit can mean Anything....

    WTF????!?!??!

  • Comment removed

  • lol this episode was weak...If it were me I'd drag Anthony Bourdain across the Philippine archipelago and make him taste the real, down-to-earth heavenly Filipino cuisine...Everything on this episode was stereotypical...and that pompous pampanga chef...shame shame

  • @danilo82 this is actually posted a year ago ..feb 20 2009 just to be exact haha... they don't have a vision that mendoza would do that .. anyway this is food not homeland security ..

  • he's one of my culinary heroes ... anthony is actually the one who inspire me to cook and learn more about other country's cuisine

  • i don't mean to be racist but hello....first chinatown...give me a break. it's all over the world. you should have started with pasig city.lol!..or divisoria...a very common pilipino market...or a wet market..omg!....grrrr!!! so not impress with the tour guide...lol! (just my opinion.please don't get mad at me..ha! ha!)

  • augusto was such a bore. if it werent for the pig, there wouldnt have been episode!

  • looked like Anthony was sick or something but he did not look like he was having a good time unlike the other shows. He did not have any smart comments or the guide was too talkative. He did get a point that there are so many Filipinos that were born here in the US with no idea of how the country is"closet Filipinos". They are still searching for their identity. I have met Fil-Ams here in the states who would rather say they are Hawaiian or Guamanian!! At least Augusto tried...

  • the tour guide offered his favorites.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperLonerunner you removed your comment? I'd humour you, but the challenge is gone LOL

  • @SuperLonerunner Lol...

  • i love the Philippines and the food. thanks for the visit Anthony :)))

  • @pinaypieish mabuhay ang bakla

  • Anyone know Augustos blog address?

  • @ichimadasan first off thatz ma mom commenting so i doubt she knowz anything ok..

  • Why u all making such negative comment about Augusto?

He's just being a host in his own special way ...

After all "A. Bourdain" is having a Fucking great time and free meals ...

  • Comment removed

  • @Fetalanie

you dont really have an idea on how this kind of show is made do you? first off the meal is not "FREE", its all been paid for by A. Bourdain's producer including air fare of augusto. they have what we call budget thats what they spend to make such shows, they do not expect freebies, and augusto prolly have been paid for all his troubles.

  • i was hoping so much from this show, but that damn augusto. dude, you just used the show to get a free trip home. that's seriously how it looks like. you didn't know anything about the country and hardly anything about the food.

there were a couple good segments, but this could have been better.

and nitpicking here...shrimp adobo? please. pork or chicken baby! and how can it be adobo without the vinegar?

  • @sheurga FIl-Ams, Filipinos with American atitudes. they're bullshit. this Augusto guy is Abnoy.

  • YOU SHOULD COME TO MY HOUSE... LOL anthony im your number one fan LOL!

    ill tell youll have fun

  • lol the problem with filipinos is theyre too damn nice!!! LOL, you hit the nail in the head tony!

  • he's wearing a streetlight manifesto shirt! =)

  • WTF going to dampa!?! if I were Anthony or who ever Filipino that was they should have waited or search for a festival/fiesta in the province because he will get to see how foods are being prepared and he will see more sweets and delicacies made by the true locals not on a some dampa or restaurant,. and what a crappy video that was Augusto made it like an avid fan grade school who is begging Anthony to come in the Philippines, that video really sucks!!

  • @albeanmagz19 True! The Filipino culture through food is not really highlighted.

  • He should go to Bulacan, Bacolod, Capiz and Davao for food tripping..

  • best episode ever!

  • It's unfortunate, but it looks like Anthony Bourdain didn't really like the food in the Philippines too much on this episode, nor did he have a very good time there.

  • walang toyo yung pork adobo namin and it tastes better. :

  • For some reason every foreigner that comes to Philppines, the food that they like is Adobo.

  • its probably the closest thing to anything they're used to. haha

  • augusto sucks balls

  • Agusto sucked big time. Although he probably seal the deal on Bourdain's decision to visit the Philippines, it was apparent from the episode that this two-faced dude is typical of many filipinos - putting on a good "show" when he submitted his video entry then being a totally different character upon meeting Tony face to face. Agusto gives filipinos a bad rap. Hey Agusto, your hair sucks, you suck, so go crawl back into that POS cave you came from on LI.

  • whatta a douchebag....

  • MarketMan, aka Bourdain's Cebu guide, is from Cebu, he just studied abroad.

  • i mean the travel guide in manila is not that good, wala ngang betamax isaw. mga yun... at pampanga ok yung guide. cebu?... get a cebuano guide!....

  • anthony should try the chicaron bulaklak, bopis, deep fried chicken skin, kinilaw with gata, bagnet, empanada of ilocos, shrimp balls, binagoongan, chicken inasal of bacolod, tocino, cadyos, try to get good tour guides and try to travel more of the philippines. 1 episode luzon another episode visayas and the last episode mindanao...

  • Could you folks tell me which market they went to? I would love to buy stuff and have them cooked like they did.

  • Comment removed

  • This tour guide sucks! What chicken balls? Fish balls is more like it.

  • aside from squid balls and fish balls, meron na ring chicken balls. it's popular now in manila.

  • @balutsky1

its chicken balls!! look again it has dots on them. besides fishballs are not rounded like that when cooked.

  • i pity the tour guide...it seems he doesnt know anthony really, hey man he doesnt like to eat vegetable...he despise it..but for the camera and not to insult you, he just take it as it is...you shud let him eat pork adobo

  • Its only a one hour show man.....and how do you know they didn't consider all of those...trhey had to choose........... I have seen the other shows and they also failed to do every dish in their country... If you want to kno Or better yet right one more about the food buy a book, If there is one thing so common with filipinos is our complaining.

  • I thought the Philippines episode for Bizzare Food, was Bad...good lord this episode takes the cake..so boring.

  • man those adobo shrimps looked good

  • medyo sinasapawan lang ng guide ang host

  • ay nakakamiss sa dampa :)

  • Hey kabayan Filampat! no body's perfect dude. maybe you're knowledge of our history is better than Agusto but isn't just right that we should be thankful instead? thanks kabayan Agusto, I love your video man!

  • I think he is NOT watching TFC!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Too bad Bourdain depended on young Augusto who barely knew the country and knew next to nothing about cooking. He said nothing about foods of Spanish influence. His recipe for adobo was incorrect. FYI: the word "adobo" comes from Old Spanish "adobar" (to prepare ahead of time"). As applied to food, it means "marinate" (as done by Latinos but not by Filipinos). As a good cookbook will show, Philippine cuisine is Spanish, Chinese, and Southeast Asian - much better than the show shows.

  • not to be rude, but that fan reminds me of the bad guy in "No country for old men"

  • galing mo Ivan Mandy!! famous ka na sa batch natin with this show!! good luck bro! invite mo ako on your next one okay?!!

  • Ivan Shmyvan he sucked big time! ...WTF our food is still evolving? One of the worst comment in the show!

  • Mabuhay ang Pinoy Food and Philippines ! Great show...

  • Im glad Anthony finally visit the Philippines!

  • good job augusto
