This is a salsa choreography for a show, I'm sure they can kill on street salsa as well, I'm not so sure street salsa dancers can perform those tricks though, you need training and technique to do those.

Nobody would pay money to watch people salsa dance because you can pay much less money to actually dance it at a bar or something. This is just a cool acrobatic dance with salsa moves. I'm sure these people kick ass at social dancing though.

Just because some "rule bound" dance teacher prescribes how a dance should be performed it doesn't mean it has to be so. Dance, like any other art form, evolves over time and it is not down to any individual to be prescriptive over it. What matters is whether it is artistic, skilful and enjoyable to watch. I won't be asking any Salsa teacher what they think as I really don't care.

The point you make about inventive modern artists is interesting. You say they "learn" from the classics. If they stuck rigidly to a prescribed routine, this would not amount to learning as they would only reproduce something which already exists. The whole point is that they develop on what they have learned to produce something new - not stay in a timewarp
