F-22’s are not designed to compete with F-35 but to compliment them, by providing cover for them. F-35 is an air to mud attack aircraft. Do not be mislead by the fighter designator. @Anatolian90 , basically, a good comparison but the f-35 was originally planned as a replacement for the Harrier. It was then decided to do a an F-16 replacement and carrier version out of it. Lots of development problems as a result, delays etc. congress getting ansty, might even see a few more 22's as a result. Head to head? The F-22 wins. Nothing out there that can touch it.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you have no idea what the raptor can and can't do. Neither do I nor anyone else unless you are required to know and have the clearance status. Missles are even a greater secret than the planes that carry them. They have to be as they are our defense weapons or offense in a first strike.
Oh and raptors specs are not punished and remains secret! It's rate of climb, speed, etc etc are all secret! It's new weapons including new missles are secret as well. I don't know anything about plasma rays nor new raptor missles. No one other than the right people know! Why make new weapons if you are going to tell everyone how they work?
Raptors have new plasma laser ray technology as weapons. Their missles are new and secret as well. These missles use something like thrust velocity. They can turn tight to follow their high tech targets. No use making a great plane and not have it use great weapons. Weapons need to be better than capabilities than it's targets. @Bidil6 I hate to burst your bubble, but the F22 is not "Invisible". It also does not carry MBDA Meteor RAM jet Missile Technology either. This Missile outclasses ALL A to A Missiles within the US airforces. Eurofighter of course, carries long range MBDA. BTW F22 is no faster than EF at Mach 2.20. You also need to learn how to convert Mach into MPH as well. EF also has a significant climb rate advantage over F22....it does 62K feet per minute...ok?

@mrjimbeam2009 The thrust to weights for the F22 and EF are published. Both Aircraft in full AB have approx 5K Lbs to spare (EF has about 6K actually). The big difference is, is that EF only weighs about HALF what your BIG F22 does. Im not pinning anbody against anybody, simply pointing out some facts for you. This is when both aircraft carry no ordnace or drop tanks.
Comparing a F22 to a F16 is just like comparing a Corvette to a Honda Accord!!! There is no way a F16 can dominate airspace with a F22 around! The F22 was created to dominate airspace and all othe aircraft!! It can fly at speeds exceeding 2150 miles per hour and cruises at 1050 without use of afterburners. Trying to shoot one with guns is almost possible and it's counter missile systems target these enemy missles before they have a chance to get within 50 miles of the F22!

As far as this debate goes, F22, F15, F16, etc....... It does not matter. The simple fact is they are ALL far superior to anything else out there in each of their rolls. With the exception of something new here and there that is released by someone else, no one has been able to come out with anything that has even moderately closed the gap for too long.
Stealth doesn't mean it's invisible on radar, but let me end the debate once and for all. F-22 outmanuvers the F-16. End of story. It also has equal if not more powerful radar than the Falcon. The Raptor, though not 100% stealth (nothing is) will still be able to get the first shot off in a Beyond-visual-range fight. That pretty much guarantees a victory. In a dogfight with guns only, F-22 still wins because it has superior thrust and thrust-vectoring.
@KingKong15675 I don't think so the F-16's radar couldn't see the the Raptor because guess what? it's stealth. The AAM are gone because it's at a airshow....

This is an absolutely beautiful video of this machine on the taxiway. Especially 4:21 where the pilot either tests, or shows off, the thrust vectoring and control surfaces.

SU-37 Russian jet more powerful and maneuverable than any other fighter jet. It is not stealthy, but it has plasma defense shield and many other strategies.

The Su 37 looks good at airshows and that's it. Once you add ordinance it won't be able to do half thsoe stunts. And if "plasma stealth" is so wonderful Russia wouldn't have spent billions on the T-50. Just think about it.
I am sure every country in the world would love to have one of those.

@thrownsquid Because British pride still to this day cannot get over the fact that the United States had to bail them out of WW11. It's a fact everbody knows it put they still hold that against us and won't let it go. That's where alot of the anomosity comes from. May I also mention that with the United States winning our independence from Britain we stopped that British Empire Conquest thing they had going on for a few hundred years. That was kind of hard to swallow also. lol

@bordercrosser1000 Too bad the US has halted production. We still have over a hundred on hand but there's been speculation about it being physically too vulnerable for combat, especially in Afghanistan or Iraq. It's the Ground to Air attacks that would devastate it according to jet aircraft designers and some others that commented on the subject. I guess in certain situations it's, "give me your lunch money bitch!," but from what I've read it just can't take much damage. Maybe they're wrong... ?

@Anatolian90 , basically, a good comparison but the f-35 was originally planned as a replacement for the Harrier. It was then decided to do a an F-16 replacement and carrier version out of it. Lots of development problems as a result, delays etc. congress getting ansty, might even see a few more 22's as a result. Head to head? The F-22 wins. Nothing out there that can touch it.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you have no idea what the raptor can and can't do. Neither do I nor anyone else unless you are required to know and have the clearance status. Missles are even a greater secret than the planes that carry them. They have to be as they are our defense weapons or offense in a first strike.

Oh and raptors specs are not punished and remains secret! It's rate of climb, speed, etc etc are all secret! It's new weapons including new missles are secret as well. I don't know anything about plasma rays nor new raptor missles. No one other than the right people know! Why make new weapons if you are going to tell everyone how they work?

Raptors have new plasma laser ray technology as weapons. Their missles are new and secret as well. These missles use something like thrust velocity. They can turn tight to follow their high tech targets. No use making a great plane and not have it use great weapons. Weapons need to be better than capabilities than it's targets. Next time you tell someone is wrong, please provide the correct answer. Otherwise, you will speak in vain. How do u covert Mach into mph?

@Bidil6 I hate to burst your bubble, but the F22 is not "Invisible". It also does not carry MBDA Meteor RAM jet Missile Technology either. This Missile outclasses ALL A to A Missiles within the US airforces. Eurofighter of course, carries long range MBDA. BTW F22 is no faster than EF at Mach 2.20. You also need to learn how to convert Mach into MPH as well. EF also has a significant climb rate advantage over F22....it does 62K feet per minute...ok?

@mrjimbeam2009 The thrust to weights for the F22 and EF are published. Both Aircraft in full AB have approx 5K Lbs to spare (EF has about 6K actually). The big difference is, is that EF only weighs about HALF what your BIG F22 does. Im not pinning anbody against anybody, simply pointing out some facts for you. This is when both aircraft carry no ordnace or drop tanks.

Comparing a F22 to a F16 is just like comparing a Corvette to a Honda Accord!!! There is no way a F16 can dominate airspace with a F22 around! The F22 was created to dominate airspace and all othe aircraft!! It can fly at speeds exceeding 2150 miles per hour and cruises at 1050 without use of afterburners. Trying to shoot one with guns is almost possible and it's counter missile systems target these enemy missles before they have a chance to get within 50 miles of the F22!

Typical First Fighter Wing guys from Langley. Always wanting to show off ;) I enjoyed my time there.
As far as this debate goes, F22, F15, F16, etc....... It does not matter. The simple fact is they are ALL far superior to anything else out there in each of their rolls. With the exception of something new here and there that is released by someone else, no one has been able to come out with anything that has even moderately closed the gap for too long.

Stealth doesn't mean it's invisible on radar, but let me end the debate once and for all. F-22 outmanuvers the F-16. End of story. It also has equal if not more powerful radar than the Falcon. The Raptor, though not 100% stealth (nothing is) will still be able to get the first shot off in a Beyond-visual-range fight. That pretty much guarantees a victory. In a dogfight with guns only, F-22 still wins because it has superior thrust and thrust-vectoring.

@TheFighterpilot93 Better then what? Not the F-22, which is better at all fronts, its a 5th gen fighter, and way more manouvrable then an F-15(thrust vectoring for instance).. F-22 has way more power and is more efficient in fuel consumption.. Its almost not comparable.

@IronManu77 how do you know that? not being a smart ass just wondering is it the su-37 supeior manuverability? a close in gun fight with equal pilots yes its very possiable. It all comes down to the pilots, everyone agrees a good pilot in a p-51 mustang can take out a f-16 eagle with a lousy pilot.

@shadowhunter388 F-22 is being decommissioned, too expensive. F-35 is in full production and to replace F-22. F-35 being sold to Israel in next few months or years. SU-37 Russian jet more powerful and maneuverable than any other fighter jet. It is not stealthy, but it has plasma defense shield and many other strategies.

@IronManu77 [ F-22 is being decommissioned] That's not accurate. They are stopping production in 2011, but many upgrades are planned in the future. The F22 will be around for many years to come. The Su 37 looks good at airshows and that's it. Once you add ordinance it won't be able to do half thsoe stunts. And if "plasma stealth" is so wonderful Russia wouldn't have spent billions on the T-50. Just think about it.
