BOTHER TO LOOK AT ALL OF CAT STEVENS/YUSUF ISLAM'S LIFE, INCLUDING THE TIME HE TRIED TO LEAVE MUSIC "& THE MUSIC LIFE,TWICE. HE DID NOT B E C O M E A MUSLIM, HE WAS A MUSLIM . TELL ME A HEN THAT BECOMES A ROOSTER !

I was making a short movie for school about children and the future, ( im getting an early childhood education degree) and i couldnt find a song to use so i decided to auto scroll my itunes and it landed on this song. how appropriate. <3
I have left comments about Cat's songs. Some derogatory, I have been chastised for that. Believe me, I really like his songs. They are playing at decibel breaking volume right now, but, do all the fat children know where to play? Of course, in the streets with all the other fat kids. The gangsters are recruiting them for their own. Cat Stevens has no clue. He's a good singer, but a traitor to ghetto living.
eu tinha esse cd e o majikat, mais joguei fora muita piração anos 70, as músicas são boas, mais enlouquecem, acho que é por isso que ele enlouqueceu, grandes gênios enlouquecem
Harold and Maude. I saw it upon its first limited release during Christmas vacation of 1971. Mom took us to see it at the Art Theater in Buckhead/Atlanta, GA. I didn't see it again until it played at the 75 cent theater on Bryn Mawr at Winthrop in Chicago, 1978. I watched it everynight for a week. If you love Cat, see this movie. Nearly every song in the soundtrack, including Where Do The Children Play? is early Cat Stevens. And Don't Be Shy is included in the soundtrack of We Bought a Zoo.
you are in some bubble if you think that the world and it's inhabitants haven't experienced strife, war, hate, greed etc since the beginning of time but cooperation and love has always outlasted it all. Love is the answer.
The listener must remember that "Where do The Children play" was a protest song ahead of its time. It is a marker to the coming tragedy of 9/11. The lyrics are haunting even more so today! Cat Stevens, as a performer, started to decline in the years to come, and Yusef Islam and all his politics took center stage. Yet this song epitomized history that was to come to the western world in all its gore on one fateful September morning..
@msdistarr I was born in 1955 , we spent our summers at our camp ( a camp is a cottage without a bathroom, running water, electricity or heat) My dad was a WW2 vet that landed on Juno and ended up handing Germany her ASS. Way to go DAD. This guy gave me a 12 foot boat with a 3 hp Johnson Seahorse when I was 6 years old. Man did I have fun with that. You had to turn it around to go into reverse. Great Memories
@vinsvinyl You are aware that we were fighting the Vietnam war and African-Americans didn't have civil rights and many people thought there was going to be a bloddy civil revolution, right? Things are actually a lot simpler now. but only if you go by reality. The music was way better back then though. No one is arguing that.
This song was written way before it's time. Same as "I'm a Stranger Here". recognizing what we are doing to our planet. These amazing artists were more than musicians..they were humanitarians.
I was born in 1960. When I was a little girl, I was ALWAYS outside playing. I could not imagine staying inside the house and only went in when the street lights came on (that was my curfew). In fact I remember the streets of my neighborhood was always filled with kids, riding their Huffy bikes with the banana seat, playing hopscotch on chalk covered sidewalks, riding skateboards and skates down the hill or riding their go-carts up at the canyon. What a shame that kids don't play anymore.
yes in some ways life was simpler, for one it's being younger so physical ailments isn't a prob, now i'm of Yusuf's generation and tho' i may be wiser in some ways mentally and emotionally, there are diff things to think about, but it was so nice growing up in the 60s altho' the drugs killed off several great musicians at 27 yrs old, Yusuf was one of the fortunate ones to change his life around.
I agree that thing were so much simpler at that time when I meet a girl and sattle down keep job and look after the littel ones.To be one day like the dad.
@SpotterOz I just read about his spiritual journey and it's fascinating. In '76 he nearly drowned. He said he shouted: “Oh God! If you save me I will work for you.” He related that right afterward a wave appeared and carried him back to shore. This brush with death intensified his long-held quest for spiritual truth. He had looked into "Buddhism, Zen, I Ching, Numerology, tarot cards and Astrology." His brother brought him a copy of the Qur'an as a birthday gift from a trip to Jerusalem.
i feel so moved by Cats Stevens...he totally reveals love and compassion to children and how adults should be sensitive to their vulnerability....too often passed up with adult selfishness... wayy cool Cats Stevens...I love my kids..
@vinsvinyl It sure was! Its a funny thing. Im 47 and I just recently went back to school to get a degree and Ive noticed that there are some kids out there that listen to our music and what Ive noticed about them is that they are more down to earth and Ive yet to see any of the kids that are in a couple of my classes that talk to me they dont listen to that Rap SHIT!!! And they dont have their pants down around their ankels!
@vinsvinyl I agree, being that I am 17, I've always Listened to Cat, and the lyrics are deep when you truely listen to them. If only more people played this music for people to enjoy and keep it going through the generations.
@vinsvinyl Not really...i mean, war, oppression, social and political strife on every level...this idea that another time other than your own would be simpler and better is just an illusion. Be glad for the time you live in now...embrace today, man....
Mooslum this and Christianity that, all I know is BEFORE Cat became a mooslum he wrote this kind of incredible heart warming, socially conscious music which changed peoples lives for the better, SINCE he's become a mooslum he hasn't done shit.
That pretty much sums up what I think of his religion.
@ILLUDICHRIS that you can't be bothered even looking up how to spell it, let alone find out what Yusuf Islam has been doing for the past few years? I think we can safely assume your opinion is poorly researched at the least and almost definitely prejudiced.
What he's been doing for the last few years is nothing compared to what he did BEFORE he became a mooslum
REHASHING old tunes he wrote when he still had a mind that discerned truth from lies isn't sh!t
So stick to ASSuming erroneous excrement & feel all warm and fuzzy supporting a religion of death who's killed someone every week somewhere in the world for the past 10+ years & enjoy your view from up your sand hole
@pogboy516 brilliant music knows no time era. kids that were 16 in the 60's, 70's 80's,90's and now the new millenia will continue to enjoy music like this. and in a time like today when most 16 yr. olds are listening to lil wayne and other so called artists like him, it's so cool to know that there is still a few rare teenagers like yourself listening to music that truly has meaning and depth to it. keep listening to music from the 60's and early 70's.

I remember when I was 16 years old and we watched thes SHORTY Skateboardmovie. The Part with this track was so.....just having fun with your friends. You know what I mean?
it's a good song...love it...but didn't Cat Steven's defend the actions of 9/11...him being a muslim and all. I do believe I read that he supported the actions of the al-qaeda and after that a lot of people went out and burned his music...just wonderin
@tazaabha Who are you to say which Muslim is real and which Muslim is not real? There is no central authority in Islam, so no one can make that claim.
@Xunited100 I don't need to look it up, I remember the programme in question distinctly. The host kept pressing for an answer to the question "Do you agree with other Islamics that Rushdie should be executed?" To which he nodded and said "Yes." He said he wouldn't be willing to carry out the execution, but he agreed that Rushdie should be killed. Media manipulation has nothing to do with it, he admitted it on live television.
a top 10 album of all time no matter who you are. It grows on you. It is great music and great lyrics combined with one of the best male vocals of all time. No one sounds like him. He symbolizes so much about what has gone wrong in music and the world in general. Comparing this to American Idol....I feel sorry for the young people today that will never know what it was like to hear the evolution of rock from the late 60s through the mid 80s. Cat is a big part of that.
let me know when you find a coming of age album that is better than this 15 my girlfriend and the rain tha made us seek the bed THNKS and BP and EXOOn never go away but we can still see where we played because we stopped the basttards
was 17 and a senior in high school listening to this album! gone are those days forever......the best of times!!!:) so glad the music is still here!!!
He is one of the few that sees what lot close their eyes to. Where is my hope today? Last I heard he was taken off the plane for being on the Terrorist List. Yea Right! The man with words of peace like Jesus, yea, he's the one to keep your eye on!?&!! I hope he still sings his words of wisdom wherever he is.
Very visionary, a stark warning about what we are told is progress and democracy and the so called free market which is basically the plunder of the earth's resourses, the and the use of extreme violence in persuit of these aims. Brilliant songwriter and singer.
22 now... remember this from childhood... sadly makes me cry, he knew what was coming and no one heeded his words... Spend my life trying to get this message across
I'm only 2 years old and every friday night my mom made me watch harold and maude, for about the first 14 months of my life, and it really got me into Cat Steven's music! :)
as a youngster i knew every word to every song on this album. i'd play it on the stereo and look at that album cover for hours. wishing for simpler times.
this makes me remember those days, yknow? the times where the tallest thing in the world was your dads shoulders? ahh, memories, this was one of his favourites.
im 14 and over the summer my aunt got me into cat stevens.. now he is one of my favorite artists and just hearing his voice nearly brings me to tears.. love him
My grandma bought this album for me for my 6th birthday, up at my cottage...it was fall and the forest around us was a kaleidescope.... even though I was little I'll never forget those times.
A song that screamed of the wanton destruction of our forests and meadows. The question the song offers sure rings true today...where do the children play? In garbage dumps and upon toxic playgrounds. Thanks for trying so hard to open our eyes Yusuf/Cat. But it seemed that it was easier to remain blind. Keep on singing though because many of us are still listening. Peace brother.
Thank you, whomever you all are, for putting Cat Stevens' music on You Tube. I'm old enough to have bought this album. I still have it. Now a new, huge generation can listen to this man's fantastic music. Especially the title track, which is so short, but is so powerful: Tea for the Tillerman. As soon as I heard it at the end of Ricky Gervais's "Extras," last year, I thought: Perfect closing tune and great taste in music, Ricky.
Brings back so many memories of my childhood. My mom used to play this album over and over and over again, I used to sing at the top of my lungs to it. *tear*
i played that song so many times on my guitar for many many years now...At some point I started to believe that I wrote it on my own...but that video reminds me that i was just dreaming...damn...I would have been so proud!
i typed in for the children and this is what popped up. love you cat. my life would not be complete without your music and laughter

clopi24 10 months ago
it's a good song...love it...but didn't Cat Steven's defend the actions of 9/11...him being a muslim and all. I do believe I read that he supported the actions of the al-qaeda and after that a lot of people went out and burned his music...just wonderin
doobeedoo58 11 months ago
@doobeedoo58 No real Muslim defends the actions of 9/11 nor al-qaeda.
tazaabha 11 months ago
@tazaabha Who are you to say which Muslim is real and which Muslim is not real? There is no central authority in Islam, so no one can make that claim.
koyunbaba73 10 months ago
@doobeedoo58 Not sure, but I do remember him saying that Salman Rushdie should be killed after he wrote 'The Satanic Verses.'
JohnnyContagious 10 months ago
@JohnnyContagious
Yup, Wiki is your friend. The issue had to do with Rushdie, not 9/11. Tea for the Tillerman was a great album, no doubt about it.
olderelfman 10 months ago
@JohnnyContagious no it was the media who twisted his words he doesnt said that.go ahead and look it up,then you will know
Xunited100 10 months ago

I am only 17 but I understand that that he was a visionary ahead of his time. His emotion comes across so clearly in his music.
MrPeik17 1 year ago
didn't he come out in support of Hussein and belittle what happened on 9/11? Morning has broken I guess.....
doobeedoo58 1 year ago
@doobeedoo58 ..No, he spoke vehemently against it. He, like most people, is against terrorism and senseless violence.

Very visionary, a stark warning about what we are told is progress and democracy and the so called free market which is basically the plunder of the earth's resourses, the and the use of extreme violence in persuit of these aims. Brilliant songwriter and singer.

My grandma bought this album for me for my 6th birthday, up at my cottage...it was fall and the forest around us was a kaleidescope.... even though I was little I'll never forget those times.
JimB667 1 year ago
