Because Virgin cross country used to hire an HST from GNER or Midland Main Line to run an extra train to the south west of England.

I'm an HST fan mate, and there's more to this legendary train than it's engine. It's design(timeless) and comfort on board just to mention a couple. They could put a GM engine in them for all I care(as long as they're good engines!!) if it keeps them going. Why? Because no "replacement" produced yet has even come close. But for the record I will miss the valentas, but I don't think the mtus sound that bad at all!! Thanks mate.
