Hello, I have an 8 foot boa. Right now she lives in a 70 gallon aquarium. She is a very tamed snake. I've had her for 5 years. I was wondering what type of heating and living conditions she should have. I also have a few other questions and concerns. I watched your videos and you seemed like you know what you are talking about, and I would really appreciate it if you could e-mail me @ blusher91c@hotmail.com if you wouldn't mind. Thank you.
Haha I thought for a second this video was for cannabis, but I stil enjoyed it. It seems you have some fauna that resembles it in your tank around 4:50
or Create a video response i swear on everything i know.ive been a cultivator for 15 years and have finally found the solution... its called "NoSpider mites. look it up they have a web site. not only is its safe to you and your ladies. it also kills in 24 hours. and yes Evan the eggs. yep i said it Evan eggs. I don't work for them ether. it is very expensive throw. 130 dollars for one gallon and its not concentrate. 100% works
Hi thanks for my tips. Can you tell me where you bought Nix from and which section should I look for it at. I just found out today my snake has mites.
@cappeeler09 they suck the blood on your snakes like vampires i had a problem with them a few months ago with my ball python there were hundreds on him/her (dont know the sex) and they were blood red but i killed them all not a problem since with mites
Hey, i want to know where you got that big muti-snake enclosure thing that holds like 6 snakes, and if you built it yourself can you give me the plans? Please reply, that would look so much better than my current setup.
hey i just got a baby ball python from a breeder and yesterday i saw a little tiny black think on his head, then it dissapeared. is it mites? he hasnt been soaking or anything hes acting normal as i can see...
How did you acquire mites in the first place? I have always felt prevention is better than solution, and (knock on wood) have been successful in that philosophy.
He said in a previous video that the mite was on the true red tail Larry that he bought from the pet store that was actually wild-caught. From what he said it seems the mites came with the snake, and I've noticed a lot of times that mites and ticks and fleas seem to appear out of nowhere, although it's possible that they can be brought in from clothing.
Hey I'm planning on using your solution exactly as u did it but I was wondering if I could use a different brand than nix because I can't find nix so I got this brand called rid please let me know u can message me or message me on aim flowneedzmurk69
I have a similar question about the tubs. I noticed in previous videos that you used the tubs to hold the boas while you fed them, but why do you put the tubs IN with the snakes? It doesn't seem like they use the tub in the tanks themselves, so I was wondering if there was some other purpose for the tubs to be in there.
nope... my males from 2007 are between 2 and 2.5 ft :)
...its important to remember that you can effectively control the boas adult size by how much you feed it in the first 2-3 yrs... if you keep the meals small for that period, you can keep a male boa around 5 ft and a female around 6... some will be exceptions though that are just faster natural growers... but it is directly tied to food intake and avg temperature
i am battling mites right now with all 3 of my snakes and they have been to the vet once about it already but the treatment worked for about 3 1/2 months than noticed them again about a month ago how long does it take for the nix to work and how long does it last i have an albino Burmese and 2 ball pythons and i really like your setup you have for your snakes
nix should work right away, 2 or 3 treatments tops... it should NOT be applied directly to the boa, but the boa can soak in water and be misted with nix while in the water, but just a little... its best just to remove everything from the tank/enclosure and mist the hell out of it... let it air out for 10 min or so and then put the boa back in... u shouldnt see mites after that
I've been battling mites with my Royal/Ball for a week now. At first it was literally covered but now I'm finding the odd one a day. Getting there! :) By the way, I love your setup. Did you make those black enclosures yourself or buy them? Its the glass fronts i like the best haha. The hinge and handle.. I want a hinge and handle!!
wow! looks like you have a great setup!! i am currently battling mites with my boa...i just gave her tank a great scrub down and treated her with Reptile Relief...i have used this product repeatedly but to no avail!! GRRR! i will try the NIX next! she soaked today too and appeared to love it...but when i got her out she appeared to be regurgitating water!!! i have NEVER seen her do this!!! is it normal? i know you're not an "expert" but just thought i'd ask what you thought about it. Thx!!
ive never seen a snake regurge water?? not sure about that, but was that nix water? also soaking a lot is a sign of mites :( good luck with the fight!
when I saw him in the store, i pulled him out and decided to buy... at that time they told me that it was a female who was captive bred... i had them call the breeder to make sure, but they said it was wild caught... i had been holding it for a total of 3 minutes, but i guess that was enough to make me not want to put it back regardless of the response ;) And being that it's a male, with his size, he could be ready to breed this or next season...?
They're filled with dirt, bark really. The bark holds humidity very well and leaving it in the tub makes a different temperature/humidity zone than the rest of the tank. It also keep the wet dirt/bark from getting the rest of the cage all dirty. I learned that trick from Rich Ihle and VPI's dvd on boas and it works great :)
lol skylight sounds better than cracked hide box ;) and yes, i do the dirty work myself... the one part about owning boas i really dont like. i honestly thank the little buggers for being food and apologize before popping em. lol, it sounds retarded im sure, but i do feel bad :(
Awsome dude!..good to see they are all gone!..i just got rid of all my mites..took me a week!..they got em right around the time you got yours lol...but im keeping them on paper towels for a while till im 100 percent shure they are gone..those little bastards have to be the most annoying things on the face of the planet..lol..GREAT VID..FIVE STARS!!!
How many times did you have to spray the snakes before you completely got rid of the mites? Are you sure that's safe to use on snakes and was there any rinsing involved after spraying?
I sprayed the snakes down only once, but the cages 2x. The 2nd was 4 days after the first to kill any leftover adults/eggs. Since the solution is mostly water it's fine to use on the snakes. I mysted the cages a bit more than normal cuz mites really dont like humidity, but that was with regular water and on the snakes too. So that was all the rinsing they got and they're doin fine now. I was recommended this method from someone who'd done it before and they did the same without any trouble:)

You can also soak the animal in a mild soap solution an hour or 2 (johnson's baby shampoo) and drown the mites. it is a very safe technique.

whats the best way to prevent mites thanks
jayebdp 2 years ago
There's no "best' way. but,
Never buy from an expo, quarantine.keep it clean, buy from reputable breeders, keep cage furnishings to a minimum.

if you want mites to stop coming back use Provent a Mite. This is the only proven solution. Mites have a 30 day hatch cycle so even if you kill the adults the eggs will hatch later. Only the provent a mite has a lon enough residual effect to keep killing the hatchlings. I used it years ago and never had any more mites everything else fails.

Sorry, but you're mistaken about the 30 days.
"Eggs hatch in one day in ideal conditions, and at cooler temperatures they may take up to four days to hatch. There is a common belief among keepers that mite eggs in some conditions may remain viable for extended periods. While this has been documented for some species of ticks, Camin's research on mites found no evidence to support this belief."
