  • wow, this just goes to show how much electricity, is part of our lives. Let alone how impacted we would be if it happen today.

  • hope the old timer made it ok, my parents 2 sisters and other family were in ny on vacation wen it happend

  • Great thing you had your camera with you.

  • I remember this day. I was buying sneakers and suddenly, all the lights in the stores went off. It was around 4pm, so the sun was still out, but I had to walk up so many flights that day. The best part of it was talking with our neighbors in the hallways. We all had flashlights and talked for about an hour. I had a B/W tv that used batteries, which gaves us details on what was going on. I wake up at 8am and my room is cold, which meant the AC was working again. It was an experience to remember.

  • hahahahaha thank god i was outside on that very fun day lol..

  • Wow this is actually a great video you got here. There is more drama to this. First video I see that has about people inside a train as well. I remember on the blackout when 2 guys were shouting at each other and were about to fight. They were in their cars and it was traffic.

  • Good movie, i was there, this was my first NY experience ever. One day that i'll never forget :)

  • That was beautiful. Did you plan for that to happen? How incredible to have your camera w/ you.

  • Wow this is so well done. Is it actually footage from the blackout? It feels very real.

  • This is sublime. I missed he actual blackout but it was as if I was there. xoxoxoo george r

  • thanks, George, sorry I missed you down here. XX Drew

  • @georgereyes1372 I didn't miss the blackout, unfortunately. It took me over 8 hours to get home that night because the NYC Transit Authority buses loaded all the people up at their first stop and forget about everyone else on their routes. Also, they stopped running certain routes early on, as is it were a normal night. I also walked down 40 flights of stairs on a bad knee. The worst day of my life. Thanks NYC Transit Authority for the lousy job you did and no response to my letters.

  • Outstanding. One of

    YouTube most meaningful

    presentations.

  • i remember that day but i was in a building tho wif my friend it was madd fun tho even tho people was popping off gunz but dont want that to happen this year tho.

  • puts you there - the heat, stuck and fanning in the subway and the 'escape', the relief of sunlight and 'typical' chaos that ignores the preacher amid the crush of the mob, and the driver stuck atop looking down, the gushing water. then the eeriness of night and a plunge into connection with the older man who reminds us to see the universe, and the sweet tinkling of music again. also admire the camera style and use of voices.

  • I remember this day so clearly Drew...a superb vignette that captures that day perfectly.

  • Man, this short is at once claustrophobic, overwhelming, beautiful, scary and, in the end, so touching, in a most humane way. Here's to Gunther!

  • Totally captured it.
