Ok, so I really appreciate these being posted on youtube but does anyone else notice that is seems to have been sped up. I don't usually even notice, but all the songs seem to have changed key.
In jonny's singing scenes he seemed dull and too calm about the whole situation and I kept yelling at the tv "DUDE! your daughter is being forced to marry the man who put you in prison and raped your wife, BE ANGRY!" even when he sang the part that says "and I'll never see Joanna, and I'll never hug my girl again" to me it sounded like he was singing half to asleep. This Sweeney seems more believable and scary to me. Just my opinon.
@lukassnakeman Although in the show, often it's done where Sweeney stands on the edge of the stage singing at people in the audience. Having him go among a crowd in the show I just don't think would be as effective. (I'm not knocking your opinion, I thought I'd just point this out)
I thought this performance of Epiphany, as compared to the 2008 film adaptation, was both better and worse in alot of different ways.
Johnny Depp's performance was more menacing, more cold and evil. And while that is very excellent depending on what you want to see, I thought the loud and jovial tone of the man who played Todd in this(forgot his name, unfortunately) more exemplified his obsession and degeneration into madness.
Then again, this style really only works on the stage. It's 50/50.
Yeah. That part was something added in the later versions of Sweeney Todd. You know how in Broadway shows some people do ad-lib or their directors change some lines? Well, this is a good example. Tell me if I'm wrong, 'cause I'm not really an expert on musicals. But I just assumed that, because I've either seen or heard many versions of this.
This is one of the best songs!! Sad thing is, in the movie, Johnny Depp made him way too calm and secretive. Too cool about the whole thing. George Hearn is the very best at the whole thing!! He is so honest about the whole thing and ANGRY! in this one you can tell he's CRAZY AND MAD AND REVENGE SEEKING! Losing his mind!!
@WickedisAwesome101 Johnny Depp has his own version of upset and angry, It's just the way he is. I think Johnny's Sweeney Todd was more sad than mad, but he still did a good job. But I enjoy George Hearn's Sweeney is my favorite :)
@WickedisAwesome101 i personally love what Johnny depp did to the character, hebrought a new side to Sweeney, you could see the angry and the hate in Johnny depps eyes its just that he wasnt quick to show it because Judge turpin was their and Sweeney is a secretive man, although i get ur point he did do great here. i love both sides.
@WickedisAwesome101 Did you like Mr. Depp in the movie? I though he was pretty good for Hollywood style, but Mr. Hearn Is an incredible performer! Almost seems like 2 different stories.

Is it bad that I find myself giggling sadistically at this song?

i think it was better in the movie where sweeney was in the street among the crowd singing and talking to actual people instead of out the window

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Also, the second time he says "Tell, ya why, Mrs. Lovett, tell ya why" He's really supposed to say "Even you, Mrs. Lovett, even I"
WickedisAwesome101 4 years ago
no, Kiera, he was supposed to say "Tell ya why, Mrs. Lovett, tell ya why" twice. I just checked the script, and that's what it says.
