  • @laslos3 it gives improved speed, more horsepower, and it allows more weight to be carried.

  • Forgive my ignorance, as aviation is not my strong-suit, but what advantage do the counter-turning props provide?

  • And I want one of those so fucking bad...

  • It must be exhausting keeping station with the tanker while the Bear's tanks fill up through the little hose.

  • why the F-16's stay with TU 95 ????

  • @joeybohher696 It's keeping an eye on it, and after that, escorting it out of western airspace...

  • @MrRickillo thanks man!

  • Ugly, Yet Beautiful, Kinda like the A-10 Thunderbolt...Lol

  • That is a loud, loud plane if you ever get the chance to hear it in reality.

  • Anyone else think that the frount of the Tu looks like an old man?

  • I love Smotr. For the footage and C&C music.

  • fcuking beautiful aircraft

  • Normally I have crap things to say about Russia...but this aircraft just fucking rocks! It looks so bad ass! True bad ass soviet bear! :)

    Gotta love Soviet aircraft!

    R.I.P. Soviet Union!

  • This must be the ugliest plane i've ever seen!

  • Those old Russian bombers were excellent planes, and built like tanks. But they were meant for a different time, to be deployed in droves. Now they're only good for recon. Your typical bomber crew in an all out Cold War scenario stood a slim to none chance of surviving the U.S.- Canadian fighter assault. They would have all been blown out of the sky. The same goes for our B-52s and Britain's Vulcans over Russian airspace. This is why everybody went to missiles deployed on submarines.

  • @Lex5576 Well, actually they're good also as stand-off platforms for cruise missiles. Consider that already the old AS-4 had a range of more than 3000 km after all.

  • @Lex5576 and Satellite Recon and Space weapons (the USSR launched one in 1989)

  • @Jeff8090 I can't say wether it is the loudest. But it ~is~ very, very loud. The tip of those enormous turbo-prop driven propellers is moving at mach 1.1. So, in effect, they produce a constant super-sonic boom.

Or, in other words, a hell of a lot noise! :p

I ~love~ the startup sequence when you see the counter-rotating propellers beginning to turn. The whole plane is just looking so incredibly menacing.

  • those f-16 remind me of cold war

  • @Jeff8090 then check out the Republic XF-84H "Thundersreech". It may be the loudest alongside the Bear

  • Amerikanski F-16s. Awe at Soviet might.

  • Gorgeous aircraft!

But there's one thing I wanna know... Why do the Russians with fly these things without permission over the Danish, Dutch and Brittish seas since the beginning of 2011? The Russians are doing it more often than ever.

Yesterday, two of these aircrafts where again intercepted by two Dutch F-16's... Because the Russian where flying over Holland without permission. Again.

Also the Danish, German and Brittish fighters intercepted the Russians multiple times..

  • @animalpolice Electronic reconaissance and part of a military training. I can assure you that NATO planes were doing the same during the Cold War era (and they still do - remeber P-3 incident off Hainan island). I remeber the stories of ex-servicemen about NATO Atlantiques running regular reconnaisance raids along Polish coast back in 70s and 80s. :D

  • Who's music starts @ 5:36 ?

    It's beautifull

  • My salute to the Soviet AF for defending the world for so many years and the Russian AF will live on this legacy!

  • @Chairmandragon1982 NO NO NO. The US air force has been defending the world not the Soviet or Russian air force.

  • @MrZw69 Come on, they have been defending themselves by eachother, cut the crap.

  • with 8 propellers 2 in each row this plane is anit-steath you are scared it will come but the the noise is so loud you hear it and have plenty of time to scramble the fighters, reload the flack, and get in the bomb shelter

  • @thespaceboon101 but remember, It was desinged to carry the Tsar bomb, so even if everyone is in the shelter, the surrounding 80km, would be oblitirated!!!

  • In Soviet Russia plane flies you

  • If you want an amazing car you go to Italy, if you want a huge ass plane that will still be working fine 60 years after it was first built, you go to Russia.

  • @pyromcr you mean like the B-52 and the C-130, U.S. has planes just as old

  • I'm on my way to do Aeronautical Engineering in 2012.Damn I got to say she is a beautiful piece of machinery! Props to the the Soviets for being the first to make contra-rotating propellers work as efficiently as the Russian Bear does.I bet it made her noisy but still very efficient!

  • @Groudie101 Fastest turbo prop in the world... And it was made in the 50s. Quite a feat of engineering if you ask me.

  • Now I am fully convinced that bears can fly!

  • Love those counter-turning props and the awesome roar of the engines.

  • I like this Video, I was many Years as an Soldier in the German Air Force an "aktiv" Member of this time, a Member of the cold war. I remember mi.

    Thank`s a lot for this.

  • Cool plane & vid! So there seems to be officials, flags, a band, flowers, and a speech. Anyone know what was the occassion and a little of the speech?

  • do you get tired of controlling the plane driving everyday and always be alert do u get tired

  • I bet when the Bear re-fuels in flight it must drain the tanker aircraft dry of all its additional fuel tanks !!

  • This pedo keeps showing up in the sky's of europe i don't get it.

  • if only they could somehow reduce the noise, it would be the best strategic bomber

  • @handmesomegold no nothing will ever knock the B-52 off that pedestal

  • Thanks for this rare video! :)

  • a beatiful aircraft i like they fit 2 turbine on each engine XD and it real beatiful!! and well design

  • Love the idea of Tu-119 (modified Tu-95 with nuclear reactor engine). Wish there was some video of that thing flying, as 1 prototype was ever built

  • Take note its a must to wear the the original flight attire when flying a classic.

  • The only thing louder than those props is the music! XD

    Love the bomber!

  • 0:49 CASTRO ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • the most beautiful designs!!! These planes are still in service ready to kick the fucking gringos!!!

  • the most beautiful designs!!!

  • If this monster fly near ground its freaking sound can break building LOL.... xD

  • An Inovative and Beautiful aircraft, as was it's sister the TU-114.

  • In Soviet Russia, Bear shoot YOU!

  • @Nikifuj908 it doesnt shoot it bombs

  • @Billyboynot One day, you will realize nobody likes it when you do that...

  • @Nikifuj908 kind of like when you tell yokav smirnoff that have been out of style since it started

  • @Billyboynot I like how care enough to find out which comedian started the trend in the first place, but you lecture me for being inspired by him. You, young hermaphrodite, are a piece of work.

  • @Nikifuj908 its common sense idiot and its homosapien

  • @Billyboynot I was not referring to humans, which you obviously are not. Please leave me be, Hermie.

  • @Nikifuj908 what ever get your facts right bombers=bombs dumbfuck

  • @Nikifuj908 its common sense idiot get alife

  • 10 times louder than a Airbus-A330, The latest version the Tu-95MS can reach a maximum speed of 510 knots or 920 km/h 575 mph. Each engine, Kuznetsov NK-12

MA, the latest version, has 15.000 hp.

  • B-52 is way better,

  • @tHeWasTeDYouTh and way expensive

  • what a beauty

  • how awesome the Soviet design was!!

  • in soviet russia, plane fly you!!

  • For me the TU-95 is one of the most elegant and strikingly different plane. Although not comparable to the SR-71 series it also symbolizes the height of soviet aircraft design and remains a masterpiece.

  • Beautiful. And music fits perfectly.

One of the GREATEST planes ever.

  • Furry hats? Check!

  • Love the contra-rotating propellors!

  • MONSTER BOMBER!!!!

  • Awesome bomber:)

  • Damn good plane!!!!

  • I amafraid the most dangerous enemy would have been anti-air "Nike-Hercules" system, that has been capable to reach high altitude without too many errors

  • probably the last classic bomber... 5*

  • When you stop to think about it, the B-52 and the TU-95 are really kindred spirits, sharing so many commonalities, and so much history.

Both first flew on or about 1952, both entered service roughly 1955, both designed as long-range strategic bombers, both having undergone many modifications, both expecting to serve until 2040, and both are evolved from the Boeing B29 Superfortress.

If you look at an original TU-95 from almost head-on, you can almost see the nose of the B-29 peeking through.

  • @SSD99 Good call SSD99, you put into words what I have felt for some time.

  • @klesmer: Thanks for the vote of confidence. Which is better? Depends. For beauty, I love the BUFF, but the Bear just ekes out the win here. For unrefuled range, I think they are pretty evenly-matched- the Bear for it's turbo-prop fuel economy, and the BUFF for its sheer ability to carry a LOT of fuel. For payload, the BUFF definitely wins. For service life and re-configurability, it's a tie. Two vastly different approaches to solving the same problem. Both equally successsful, too.

  • Great Video one of my favorite Cold War Era birds. One day I hope to see one in person!

  • I can see that the plane on this video is flying close to my country Norway, since one of our F-16s are intercepting TU95. I have only one thing to say, Dont crash near our borders! Especially if you carry nuclear weapons. I do not want a Russian broken arrow incident .

  • Both design classics!!

  • It's a good plane, it has the speed of a jet liner and the range of a propeller aircraft.

  • @bombarderoazul and its HUGE!

  • @bombarderoazul ...and the noise of a nuclear weapon, to scare us swedes away. ;)

  • Lol! Even the F-16 is having a hard time keeping up with the Tu-95!

    5-stars!

  • Can the B-52 take off from an unprepared field? Can a version hunt submarines at ultra-long ranges? Was the B-52 ever developed into an airliner?

The Russians remember a thing the US continually forgets -- a design is still useful long after it has been declared "obsolete".

  • Actually a civilian version was used as an airliner, it was the TU-114, the airplane entered serviced in 1956 only four years after it was developed, yes it has a smaller bombload than B-52 but it has a range of almost ten thousand miles which is more than B-52. Overall it's a good plane, the noise level is exagerated, it's a loud plane, but it's mostly propabanda. It's a good launch platform for nuclear tipped cruise missiles.

  • The B-52H(latest model) range is around 10,100 miles and the Tu-95MS(latest model) range is around 9,400 miles. w/o mid air refueling, The B-52 has better rang than the Tu-95. So... The B-52 is basically the same plane as the Tu-95 but w/ a larger bomb load, faster, and larger range. Cause the B-52 can carry about 4 GAM-87 Skybolt ballistic missiles, as well as being able to carry a missile under the belly of the plane, it also has 2 hard points on each wing. Tu-95 is good but B-52 is better!!!!

  • Yes I never said the TU-95 is better than B-52, I still think it's a good equivalent in some respects, the best aspect of the TU-95 is probably the fact that its very simple and cheap to operate, that's why the russians plan to keep it in service until 2040, it's simple and reliable!

  • i do agree, but the USAF doesnt make anymore B-52 :[ but they still use them, until like 2040 like the bear,

  • @Anwaruddin02 your airplanes are mega weorst, TU 95 is very good airplaneis and very very fast

B 52 is good airplanes, too but T 95 is better

  • @Nmar854 You're joking, right?

  • the B-52 is intresting, but the Ty-95 is far better in many respects. and there are many most modern european fighters will see of the F-16

  • how is the Tu-95 better?? and what does this mean "and there are many most modern european fighters will see of the F-16" it makes no sense lol

  • This machine is an absolute wonder. I´m travelling to Moscow in 5 weeks to visit Monino, and I look forward to seeing this aircraft up close for the first time in my life. Thanks for posting this.

  • 2:28 - ппц, до сих пор на линейках курс просчитывают

  • slide rule > satellite navigation

  • What a refreshingly unique airplane.

  • Anyone know what music that is?

  • This plane represents the best sides of Russian engineering: Solid, effective and sheer power.

  • beautiful machine! I dream to flight that

  • Amen to that, mate! A gorgeous aircraft!

  • Fantastic.Thank You.

  • beautiful engine

  • I like the design of the soviet planes from the cold war.

  • @yfh10mg i agree with you the cold war produced many of the most intelligentlt designed planes ever devised yet. i certainly would say that the bear is a timeless aircraft.

  • so do i man its the ultimate love machine lol

joking ofcourse but id die to hav one if them

  • Man I want one of those so fucking bad.

  • Let's look at its longevity in relative terms:

Its regular introduction into the Soviet Air Force was in 1958, and here we are in 2009, and it's still a significant part of Russia's strategic bomber force.

51 years: that'd be like the Boing B-17 Flying Fortress (regular introduction into the USAAF being in 1938) still comprising a significant part of SAC in 1989- the year the Berlin Wall fell. An amazing run for a remarkable aircraft.

  • the b52 was introduced in 1952. its equally as important. they are both very significant. they both have an incredible service record.

  • old but fun ☭

  • Is it really that important which one is better? In the case of a war, both a few B-52 and a few Tu-95 would have reached their targets... and as soon as an atomic bomb is detonating over your home town, would you still be thinking "ok, but the aircraft that delivered it here is worse than our B-1 or TU-95 bomber!"?

  • Neat plane. A turboprop plane that flies as fast as an ordinary jetliner. Many years ago, the company I use to work for had a twin engine turboprop plane and it was pretty quick ! We flew from Indianapolis down to Birmingham AL in a couple of hours and flew around 30,000 feet. The fun part is flying in the co-pilots seat and then we flew from Alabama to Michigan.

  • The B-36 still makes it bitch-up. But a damn fine piece of Commie kite

  • Insn't the Tu-95 also still the worlds fastest propeller driven aircraft? Impressive machine either way...

  • I believe that would be the tu-114!

    Very impressive machine, yes!!

  • i love the Tu-95 Bear because when it was used in the cold war, it was so loud that submarines could hear it, still it is a amazing plane.

  • beautiful craft - an icon

  • Just seeing the USAF F-16's escorting teh planes out of the restriced area makes the video look so much betetr

  • magnifico video y el tupole es buenisimo me gustala aviacion rusa no es arrogante como laamericana que secreen que van montados en una harlen

  • The Tu-95 oneof the few Soviet aircraft that does not not have an insulting code name that it a sign of respect!

  • It just so happens that whatever happens to be in the queue is what is issued to the aircraft. For bombers, it's any noun starting with a "B": Tu-4, "Bull;" Tu-16, "Badger;" Tu-22, "Backfire", Tu-160, "Blackjack," and finally, Tu-95, "Bear." These NATO codenames are fear inspiring, in my opinion. Western commanders took these Soviet pieces of flying hardware as very serious threats capable of some impressive nuclear strikes and gave them appropriate names.

  • but the mig-27's codename''Flogger'' wasnt insulting..

  • heheh ruskie 5/5

  • crucial to producing even supersonic air trust with CR props is the fact that two CR blades that are about to meet at near-supersonic speed in absolute terms, *relative to each other* are actually approaching each other at a speed that is way above supersonic. so if the first blade pushes the air at say 800 km/h the second one can give it a ferocious 2nd slap because it actually hits the moving air at 1600+ km/h. the tu 95 could go supersonic no prob without its props' blades going supersonic.

  • They fly routs of cold war: directly to UK or US but turn away from last moment. What does this mean? to fly loaded with weapons to the borders of "friend" country? They are training to bomb with nuclear weapons EU and US or Canada?

... or they are training EU and US forces and pilots to be ready for real intercept ;)

Any way they cannot violate airspace of EU and US or Canada. They just can do this with small countries like my Georgia.

  • Excelente avión, a Venezuela no le vendria mal comprar esos aviones.

  • Hablame en español. cretino.

  • I love this film and this plane! The music is as powerfull as the 15000 hp engines of TU-95!!!! ;-)

  • Seeing those contra-rotating propellors are sweet. They sare just a blender for the air. Makes you realize just how tricky refuel is with those ginsu props everywhere. What a mean looking aircraft. I hope the soviets keep these birds flying or at least around in museum's.

  • theyre planning to keep it in service till 2040 apparently

  • those russians surely know how to build some of the most incredible aircraft!!! navigating with a folded map and a ruler!! wow that is for real men, not wussy FMS... thanks for the vid!!

  • The Tu-95 was quite a machine in its day, but if your on-board systems comprise a folded paper map and a slide rule, you're history in more ways than one against a modern air defence.

  • What's wrong with the "old" folded paper map and slide rule?

  • obviously the airplanes of today have been renovated

  • no conocia este avion,es muy bonito sobre todo las helices son innovadoras

  • Excellent video. Excellent plane.

  • Wonderful plane,It can go faster than the American B-52 Stratofortress. But it was just so damn loud!

  • Uh, no.

The Tu-95 cannot go faster than the B-52. It can come close but not exceed the airspeed of the B-52.

The one thing that the Tu-95 excels at is fuel economy for a given payload. That and the noise will make you deaf when they take off.

The propellor tips are at Mach 1.2 when at METO power.

  • yes you can hear it take off from San Diego.

  • Lol, serious? In Cold War American subs' could hear miles away.

  • Possibly the loudest prop plane ever made, easily audible by the submarines it was supposed to 'sneak up on' ;)

  • True Fact: The Tu-95 is so loud, the navy ships can detect it with the tools they use to detect submarines!

  • This is a cold war bomber that have been grounded for over 10 year. But for the last few mount they again flying adwanst tactical mission outside the Norwegian coast line, and Norwegian F-16 are always there to meet them. Its not like under the cold war when Soviet and Norwegian airforce tested eatshother and even a Norwegian P-3 Orion and a TU-95 Bear have a toutch in the air in the 80's.Its more like a message to the west these days, that Russia still are in business.

  • superb...

  • What wasn't better than the b-29 exactly? Because if you're comparing it to the tu-95, thats just plain ridiculus. The tu-95 is EASILY the best prop-driven bomber ever. The b-29 was a decent bomber for it's time, but it was using old radial engines and by the time the tu-95 came out was nothing but an old wwii relic.

  • btw a friend of mine flew f-16 intercepts and he said this is the noisiest aircraft he had ever meet. you could hear it before you could see it, and it could also be tracked using sosus (underwater listenings stations in the north atlantic) due to the noise...

  • its not very fast, nor does it fly very high. it can't outrun a bz-jet, let alone a fighter nor its missiles. it can't carry a hugh bombload and its extreamly un-stealthy. BUT it can do its mission very well. its range is mindbogling and its endurance (at cruise speed) is something like 35 hours. That makes it a very good maritim surveilance aircraft, and thats the reason its still alive.

  • There are enough recorded accounts of TU-95s not outrunning, but out-accelerating jet fighters...surely for short distances only. This is possible due to the ability of the 95 to instantly adjust the pitch of its eight props for efficient bursts of speed. Turboprops do possess some advantages over pure engines.

  • No subsonic bomber can outrun a supersonic intercepter. Yet, as was proven in WW2, a few of the bombers always get through.

  • It's cruise missiles range are about the range of interceptor plane. I tell it to make you know the difference between this pre-announced flights near Alaska and real war. You also have to know exactly a route of a bear to scramble your interceptors against it. Even if you know route you have to pray for your pilot cause it's crew may change it leaving your pilot over the ocean with no target and no fuel 1000+ miles from the beach.

  • Very well said...russians eta molodci...

  • Da. Duje molodci

  • My dear "modern" friends, this plane has been designed in the early 50ies and after more than 50 years of service in the soviet and russian airforce the russians still use it. Why? This plane is still the fastest and has a longer range than ANY other JET or prop aircraft in it`s classification which have been designed 20,30 years after the tupolev 95

This airplane is unreachable, a milestone in aviation history....you can say what you want

  • Generally I agree - the Tu-95 is a cool bomber.

Just be careful with your use of the term "class".

You can define a class with parameters,

so that only the described plane fits into it.

That is not the point of a class.

  • You use classes to compare similar airplanes with each other

& not to exclude all the others to say:

"The Tu-95 is a unique airplane, that is unbeatable"

The Tu-95 excelles at the task it was designed to accomplish - hence longlivety.

But to say it is better or worse than other airplanes with different tasks in mind...

Please don't get me wrong & take it negative.

I agree with you 99% of the way :)

The sky's the limit -- hang loose!

  • These Bears became real saviors for the USSR in 50s as they cooled down US aggression and ruined "Drop Shoot" plan involving long-range B-36 bombers which should have been droped nukes on ~300 targets across the USSR. But having these noisy things carrying nukes and patrolling west coast US could not longer feel safe :P

Bears was so effective and robust that even nowaday they still patrol along US borders ready to launch cruise missiles with nuke/ordinary warheads.

  • lol they still use a slide rule and stopwatch to navigate. wow.

  • Still? You think this footage was taken yesterday? Check it out, Soviet flag there, 00:46

  • the red flag is a symbol of Russian army also nowadays

  • this was a demonstration mission and they use the same equipment which has been used in the 50ies, when this plane was designed.....

  • these aircrafts are a.k.a. "Russian Bears", which were nightmare of USA during the cold war. As you can see, when they get close the red line over Alaska, F-16s block them. Russian follows the same protocol for American B-52s.

  • i want to hear it's engine that's all i wanna hear

  • I heard one in Cuba in 1989- it was FAR louder than the Ozzy Osbourne concert I was at in 1986!! Like a massive Russian Vacuum, except more weird, and it actually vibrated the earth!
