Robert Moses, the great New York State and City parks, public works, housing and transport official, who held various titles, transformed the landscape of New York and Long Island in the first half of the 20th century. He did so with heavy handed tactics and heavy handed design, as these mostly non-human scale, monumental works show. They are now cold and isolated or traffic-clogged sites. The only exceptions may be his parks, including Jones Beach, Orchard Beach and August Hecksher.
