  • Thank very much for Yelena Mukhina, S pogam...

  • Rest in peace, Yelena. You'll never be forgotten.

  • What is the name this song? Yelena Mukhina the best

  • i remember this gymnast. i saw her for the first time in 1977. she was wonderful. so advanced for that time. rest in peace princess.

  • she was awesome, she held on for a long time after the accident, i wouldn't have made it that long. tough girl, in and out of the gym.

  • well, yeah. i'm special

  • i saw the video where she fell on her neck on TV. It exists!

  • @TheSharllot It was in training. There were no video cameras there. There is no video. Unless you saw some super-secret footage that no one else in the world knows about.

  • so sad !!!!

  • They pushed her so hard. To think, her first thought after she crashed with her spine broken was 'Thank God I won't be going to Olympics."

  • "cubancolomel"...says All..she was the best....moré than Nadia comaneci

  • what happend to her i wasnt into gymnastics at the time

  • Why would someone want to do a sport that so many people are paralyzed from, injured from or died from? It is so sad. I used to be in gymnastics for 7 years until It took too much of a toll on my body physically. i had done so much damage:

    - hyperextended knees on vault landing that still give my swelling and pain to this day (6 years later!)

    - back stiffness/ pain in lower back from overworking i guess

    - i sprained my ankles 3 times so now they are swollen alot and hurt when i run!

  • Why she died at age 46?

  • December 22, 2010. You left us on a day like today four years ago. Life deprived us of an angel that walked the earth and showed us how acrobatics are performed in heavens. In this cruel world of today, where pointing the finger and blaming others is the norm, your courage, humbleness and stoicism will forever guide us through the path that leads to becoming better human beings. Your legacy and love for the sport will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace always, Beautiful Queen!

  • i dont get it.. What were the complications?

  • @PokemonTCG88 ???? she was paralyzed! she died in 2006 or something

  • @plutoniangirl

know that she got paralyzed! But people dont die just because they got paralyzed. It said "complications caused her death" what were the "complications"?

  • @PokemonTCG88 could be ANYTHING from include urinary and fecal incontinence that sometimes requires ostomy, respiratory infections (pneumonia, atelectasis), coronary heart disease, autonomic dysreflexia, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, kidney and liver insufficiency, gallstones, constipation, pressure sores (decubitus ulcers), and osteoporosis.

  • RIP Yelena <3

  • u got see Elena Shushunova video, i see few video of her doing e thomas salto..

  • poor girl.....can you imagine being a quadriplegic for 30 years?? may she rest in peace

  • how did she die? what year did she pass?

  • @luv2livex4 she didn't get enough height practicing a thomas salto and she landed on her chin, paralyzing her from the neck down. this was around 1980. she died in 2006 from complications from being a quadriplegic

  • @LMA629 What part in the thomas salto did she fall on her chin?

  • @XxCadence123xX she was probably short on the part where you roll out of it

  • @LMA629 Oh okay.

I'm tall for my age. I can't believe she died from it :(

  • wow those tricks on the uneven bars are so phenomenal! Rest in Peace, Yelena.

  • i remember reading somewhere that she said she would never do a thomas salto without getting injured, but her coach told her that she wasn't the type of person who gets injured. i wish we would be able to sue the coach for child endangerment, but she was 20... so sad :(

  • this is sad that im crying, rest in peace Elena Mukhina

  • до свидоня елена мухина ...

  • all becouse of the coach. BECOUSE OF THE DAMN COACH!!! he only thought about getting a good title, not of her capabilities! SELFISH BRAT!!! if not him, shed be alive. She died very yong! her life was still ahead! So tragic to have a dream, and not be able to fulfill it. Pest In Peace! We will never forget you! You inspire me in many ways! You are the best!

  • Besides the 1st part of the video, she doesn't smile....she seems so sad and unhappy.

Atfter snapping her spine say "thank god I dont have to compete in the olympics" shows her pain.

Rest in Yelena, your talent in unforgettable!

  • i mean the video sorry=)

  • what is the tittle of the song yelena is great i wish that she didnt die so if i get a chance to join the gymnastics i would request her to be my coach if thats allowed rest in peace Yelena Mukhina WE WILL ALL MISS YOU!!! u are a great person. BTW whats the tittle of the song. And dont ever delete this song its wonderful=)

  • it's The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

  • @thesparkinside EXCELLENT SONG CHOICE!GOOD JOB

  • @pinkjerky59 the song is called paralized hooker in heat

  • Yelena Mukhina is the best gymnast.

I cannot forget the splendid performance of Yelena Mukhina.

Both 1979 world championship and the Moscow Olympics were champions if not hurt.

  • Tu comentario es tiernísimo y en verdad, me llegó al corazón, preciosa!!!!

  • Even by today's standards she is pretty good. Why did her coach have to push her so hard. He killed a sweet innocent little girl.

  • dont ever delete this.

  • 1978年世界選手権でのムヒナ選手の演技は最高でした あんな事故さえなければオリンピックでもね 残念です ご冥福をお祈り致します

  • The saddest thing is that if she hadn't been pushed over the top by her coach, she would have performed greatly and would be alive today. When she snapped her spine, her first thought was "thank god I'm not going to the olympics." It's so damn sad. R.I.P. Yelena, one of the greatest gymnasts that without performing at the olympics, has touched the hearts of us all.

  • Really I don't think her coach is to blame though, yes he pushed her too far but her coach was a very nice man and she had a very good relationship with her coach. He was very distraught about the injury.

  • i think he is very much to blame - he was distraught because he messed up

  • @idefyustars whats even sadder is that she predicted what would happen to her. she kept trying to convince her coach not to make her do the thomas salto because she realized how dangerous it was for women (to get the height required. female gymnasts are short). she kept getting injured doing it and she told her coach that one day she was going to break her neck. and thats exactly what happened. and then the USSR has the NERVE to blame her for her injury

  • whats happen to her ?

  • She crashed on a floor tumble and get paralyzed. She died in 2006 for complications. R.I.P.

  • I remember meeting Elena in Baltimore during the Russian tour of the U.S. She was so tiny and sweet. Very few gymnast perform with their soul. Sad so that gymnastics has gotten from real artistic gymnastics. Thank you for bringing your soul to the sport, Elena! Rest in Peace, sweet one!

  • Good one thesparkinside. It one good way of honouring her. RIP.

  • Great video, I love the song, heard from this video. Elena was an inspiration.

  • this actually brought tears to my eyes...thank you for posting such a thoughtful tribute to her

  • She was so graceful!

  • no words....

  • The woman revolutionised gymnastics as to how we know it 30 years later.. What a legacy and what a legend. Her story always stuck iin my mind when I first started gymnastics in the late 70s and I was shocked and horrified and sad. But you always know - in reality most couch potatoes don't break their necks, its more likely the most physical which has to be the hardest thing to live with.

  • R.I.P

  • this has similiarity with Sang Lan chinese female Gymanstic

  • omg i feel bad 4 her..

  • i wish i was such a good gymnast i dont no how they do such complicated moves and land perfecct

  • God bless you little angel. If there is a heaven I want to be next to you.

  • what a great tribute to a great athletet

  • Both her person and gymnastics are beautiful beyond words. I think, had it not for the nagging injury and the untimely tragedy, she should have developed into the greatest female gymnast of all times (sorry, Nadia). But, like we chinese always say: 紅顏薄命,天妒英才, sigh......

  • rest in peace you are so amazing you are my hero i want to be just like you (without parilizing myself that is) ='(

  • you are the loveliest thing I've ever seen. goodnight, sweet angel.

  • poor baby rest in peace you have made a mark in the world

  • Where can I see a video with her and thomas salto?

  • If you mean a video of the fall she was injured in, that doesn't exist. There were no video cameras present.

  • @thesparkinside Then how did you get all of the other videos in the video? =P

  • @XxCadence123xX I'm not sure I understand, lol. There's a video called You in Gymnastics that has tons of footage of the Soviets training. It's in Russian. That's where the training footage in this montage came from, but they weren't there when Yelena had her accident.

    Was that what you meant?

  • I think that was during practice, so there were no cameras there

  • Rest in Peace, Yelena.

  • I love her she is my isparation to become a gymnast and I want to be just like her. Well not exatly like her I don't really want to die because of a gymnastics accident. I love her =D

  • Poor thing

  • you're so lovely. and you'll always be in my heart. Rest in Peace, Yelena.

  • she was amazing.

    it's so sad. :(

  • Comment removed

  • Yelena mukhina

  • just new paralyzed lab rats have been showing signs of improvment & r able to walk after being treated with injections of healthy growth cells. sci is ready now try it on humans.

  • She get paralysed after performinga Thomas salto (now banned) at the age of 20, the she died 26 years later on 2006

  • what happened to her ?

  • She's an angel...

  • Elena, we love you!

  • so sad :(

  • Goodbye little angel...

    so sad for you....

  • Poor little angel! She ended her career in a terrible way...so young, so full of hope and dreams...half of her life paralyzed after all the things she did at gymnastics! May she rest in peace....

  • Whats the name of the song?

  • i can't stop of cry! lots of tears!

    gob bless her!

the name of the music is.... ?

  • It's The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

  • What a beautiful montage... made me cry :( RIP Yelena Mukhina. It's a shame gymnastics these days just doesn't have the same grace and elegance that it did back in the days of Yelena Mukhina.

  • poor gymnasts back then.....they were so good!!

  • 2:28 just gives me the chills, SOOOOOOOOO INCREDABLY SAD!!!! Everytime I see a full twisting double back (full in) or a double back off the beam I think of Mukhina. SOOOOOO SOOOOOOOO SOOOOOOOOO SAD!!! And to top it all off, it's a SIN that the roll-out tumbling pass that she paralized herself on, was STILL allowed for a few years following, it should have been banned INSTANTLY upon her accident to make a point that it is just too dangerous. Not to mention her version with an extra twist. :( !!!

  • :'(

  • one of my favorite songs!

    R.I.P

    <3

  • Her coach pushed her, she said she failed herself because she wouldn't say no. That's just so sad. As a coach I hope I always show some kind of compassion and have the ability to see when someone has taken on too much and needs a break.

  • Beautiful video. Really captures her. Great work. Beautiful person she was.

  • wat happened to her like how did she get paralyzed?

  • She broke her neck which performing a thomas salto in training.

  • ooo thats sad

  • She didn't break her neck (well, maybe she did)her spine snapped during the Thomas salto.

  • do you know of any videos showin it?

  • No, I think it was training, I don't think anyone has recorded it.

  • This is the saddest and most devastating story of aqll time in our sport! What a talent Yelena was! We will always appreciate her grace, beauty, artistry, and difficulty. I become so emotional when I watch these clips! She will certainly be missed ... but NEVER forgotten!!!

  • Yelena, you are not forgotten. And your killers are not forgiven. The angels are on your side. Maybe not the angels you would have wanted to hang with, but angels regardless. You should still be with us, babe. I won't forgive those who pushed you out of life. You should be with us.

  • That's the saddest fucking thing I've ever seen.

  • Who do you think was better: Yelena Mukhina or Anna Pavlova?

  • I'd say Mukhina, but I don't really know how to compare. Mukhina was world champion, so . . .

  • What an impressive video!!

Sad she had such a tragic life!! May she rest in peace!!

  • This is such a wonderful montage! But as for the music, I would prefer her floor music. It always gives me the creeps.

  • OMG, what a beautiful montage! So sad, but beautiful. Thanks for share.

  • wat song is this??? i luv it

  • It's The Luckiest by Ben Folds. Awesome song....sad story I put to it, though, haha.

  • Omfg her coach is rotting in hell that basterd }:0(

  • url: gymnasticgreats

    Elena Mukhina (URS)

  • Most people thought that she'd injured herself on vault, but word surfaced that she'd sustained the injury on the floor.

(a Thomas Salto, or 1 and 3/4 salto with 1.5 turns)

    R.I.P Yelena mukhina!

  • Im sure she got injured in training doing a thomas salto on floor(back layout 1 1/34 rollout). She fell and broke her neck. That move is illegal now. Such a sad story ;-(

  • Why is the move illegal now?

  • Apparently female do not have the arm strength to rescue the move if its underotated or something like that....ie too dangerous. Men can still do it though

  • Can you refer me to any video showing the move? Thanks

  • do a search for Elena Shushunova FX. the seoul free will probably be the first video. it's the pass she throws at 1:16. ugly if you ask me. not worth mukhina dying over.

  • I know the pass you are talking about! If Shushunova performed it then it was allowed for several years after Mukhina's accident!

  • However I think Mukhina added one and a half twists to the move.

  • Exactly! Shushunova rarele performed it. I only saw her trying it in 1991 at the World Pro championships

  • so unfair...

  • 1 word to say...Fantastic.

  • Excellent job.

  • God, what a tragic story, let her rest in peace.

  • RIP Yelena.

  • anyone know the FX she got paralized in?

  • I think she was attempting a Salto when she fell on her chin and broke her neck. She was on of my heroes growing up, and my inspiration to go into gymnastics.

  • Thank you for this. Bittersweet. I am grateful I am just old enough to remember Yelena in her glory gymnastic days. ::tears::

  • Yelena we miss you so much!!! Great montage!!!

  • Beautiful montage! Thank you,thesparkinside.

    Very sad indeed.

  • she was a beautiful but very sad gymnast who could only quit gymnastics when her body broke down. she will be missed.

  • AMAZING .. Really a big thanks

  • wow... i actually wasnt aware that she had passed away... she was amazing.

  • Beautiful.

  • Very good gymnast with suh sensitivity and beauty in her movement ! She's now dancing with God above ! See You Elena, you made many of us dream !

  • That was beautiful, great job.

  • thank You for this montage!

  • Thanks for the montage, she was beautiful. So sad to hear she died.

  • Inever see a montage about she, but is so much beautiful. Really, she was great.

  • Gosh... It made me cry... Thanks, it's beautiful :)

  • Thank you for this - it's gorgeous.
