Marriage is primarily an economic vehicle to reward people for getting married and having kids. Look at all of the tax credits, perks, and lower tax rates that married couples receive.
The government can squeeze more tax dollars from married couples with kids in the long run. Same-sex couples can't have kids of their own and won't produce another generation of taxpayers. Therefore, they tax them more to get their "fair share" of revenue over time.

i think, and im for same sex marriage. is that with marriage comes certain rights. For instance in Australia this means being able to adopt without any problems, if you were single it would be more difficult but marriage insinuates security and stabilization, which is looked on favorably. so if being able to adopt because of marriage causes one to wonder what are the childrens issues, with it comes to having to of the same sexed parents, the psych issues.that i see could be the only basis.

Two men were not meant to be. Evolution proves it. Its a serious deviation from what is considered to be normal. Its abnormal and excessive. You dont see any other mammal engaged is such behavior. Some say that dogs, cats, etc engage in it to establish dominance. Then we might ask whether animals have anything like a sense of sexual identity that is as robust as that which we find in human beings. Not surprisingly, the answer is a deafening "No".

so I have to ask. From a secular perspective why is polygamy illegal and yet it's ok to have relations with many women as long as you don't call them wives.
I see the same arguments with homosexual marriage being used with legalizing polygamy.
And no, not talking about with kids, I'm talking about polygamy with consenting adults. (had to clarify that as people get really weird for some reason when I ask).

The first is a civil contract between two adults that determines the rights and obligations of each partner. This is, I believe, performed by a Justice of the Peace in the USA.
The second is a religeous ceremony for religeous people that invokes their god or gods blessing.
I can understand that if their god has forbidden homosexual marriage, then the religeous ceremony is forbidden.
However, they can have no objection to the civil ceremony. Why are they making all this fuss?

I like most of what you say in the show. However your arguement that a justifiable secular reason must exist for legislation to be constitutional is simply wrong. The Constitution requires governmental neutrality towards religion, it does not bar individual religous sentiment from motivating any decisions by lawmakers. Besides there would be no way for judges to discern the lawmaker's motivation and granting a judge to power to overturn laws on his own personal normative opinion is tyrannical

i think, and im for same sex marriage. is that with marriage comes certain rights. For instance in Australia this means being able to adopt without any problems, if you were single it would be more difficult but marriage insinuates security and stabilization, which is looked on favorably. so if being able to adopt because of marriage causes one to wonder what are the childrens issues, with it comes to having to of the same sexed parents, the psych issues.that i see could be the only basis.

Well technically it's what we don't or a lack a belief in.
The word "theist" means that the person believes that there is a higher power or "God".
"A" means no or doesn't. So "Atheist" believe there is no god or higher entity. It doesn't mean we don't have morals (morals come from law and a conscience, not a book), or that we are evil. It just means that we don't think there is sufficient evidence that a god exists.

i think you misunderstood. when you call into a live tv or radio program, they ask you to mute the volume because the program may be broadcast on a slight delay (which can confuse the caller when the broadcasted program isn't in sync with the actual telephone conversation), and because of the potential for feedback errors, when the sound on the tv/radio is picked up by the caller's phone and is then amplified and retransmitted over the broadcast.

Here's a real fact for you. Sexuality is a VERY complex issue. There are numerous factors that help determine how individuals respond to different sexual stimuli. Often even heterosexual males have fetishes for things that would be considered "homosexual."
You know when you hit puberty, and it feels like you can't control your urges? Imagine if those SAME urges were directed towards the same sex instead of the opposite.

Two men were not meant to be. Evolution proves it. Its a serious deviation from what is considered to be normal. Its abnormal and excessive. You dont see any other mammal engaged is such behavior. Some say that dogs, cats, etc engage in it to establish dominance. While there is no evident reproductive benefit to homosexual behavior, to say that the absence of a reproductive benefit to a homosexual relationship is cause enough to prevent homosexual relationships is not a good enough reason. What about men marrying infertile women? Or women marrying impotent men? No one frowns on that. What happens when the couple gets old, and the woman goes into menopause?
Humans do many other sexual things that animals do not. So?

Well I am not "atheists", I am only ONE atheist. I do not stand for all atheists because they may have different beliefs than me. Why, in general, do atheists *rage* on religion? Because many people (or at least the religious people who stand out) would like to press their religious beliefs on other people and government (cough cough people wanting gay marriges band. Another exapmle include posting the 10 commandments in a Alambama state court house)

look into the research. this is usually less of an issue. the bigger issue raised is that other children suddenly see these parents are simply no different except in there orientation. THAT has upset many a Christian.
besides that...who says you can't have a child in a gay partnership? how will LEGALIZING the protections for what all ready exists reduce the situation you mention?

I never said to legalize anything, I'm just stating a situation in which gay marriage would be a bad idea, you see? The same with this one: this could go either way I suppose but too many gays that marry, and dont have babies (adopt) could affect the population (Again going either way)

reread my statement. even if they prohibit gay marriage for this reason the only way they could make this argument would be if they would then be willing to TAKE children of gay parents away. the research basically shows that gay parents do better as parents. they are usually far more prepared and are more willing to seek assistance. children of gay parenting have far better social factors (low incident of suicide, depression, etc).

In my oppinion i would say that because marriage is a religius tradition, why would an atheist want to marry? Lets keep the atheist things to the atheist things, and the religius things to the religius things. no gay marriage!

Marriage existed BEFORE Christianity. Long before it. Even if marriage was created by Christianity, the fact that it is an institution of the state relinquishes all religious implications from it.
I don't apply "your rules," I apply the rules of the state. The rules of the state are secular. If you can find no SECULAR reason that homosexual marriage is dangerous, then that would be a valid reason why they shouldn't be able to marry. Until then, your dogma should stay out of the state.

Anyways, I was just gonna say that not allowing same-sex marriage most certainly violates the spirit of the 1st Amendment and is unjustifiable.
However... there is part of the Constitution that is even more relevant, and much harder to dismiss (i.e.: logically impossible to disagree with).

The "standard" family is a mother and father. Assume this man and woman have children. If one of the parents die, does that make the "family" null and void? Do these children turn into social deviants?
50%+ of marriages end in divorce. Of these divorces, the majority are of the Christian faith! How do these families compare to the "standard"?
Consider that child molestors are NOT hetero or homo-sexuals in particular, they are sexual deviants.

Role models are few and far between for a child of homosexual "marriage". It's about how males and females relate, and psychological development that will teach the child how they will relate to the opposite sex, when THEY someday marry. Most homosexuals are they themselves children or normal parents, and cant understand how it would be if you couldnt choose parts from each parent to incorporate into their Psyche.

If homosexuals are allowed to marry, it could make it easier for them to adopt! Aside from the molestation issue, What about the poor child who has to grow up without a mother? Do you know how important the bond is between a male child and his mother!? Even a homosexual would admit a close bond with his mother. The poor kid has TWO DADS! I'm sure a few kids could make it through ok, but the majority would be hopelessly emotionally scarred.

What if they let blacks teach in schools, then they would have to let Mexicans and Asians teach, then that would open the door to openly gay people teach our kids and that might make them think its OK to be gay, then that would open the door to have people teaching our kids its OK to have sex with animals or that polygamy is OK, and that would be the downfall of our society.
