cpu amd fx 8150, gpu asus hd 6970 2gb, 12gb cohrsair vengeance ram, asus v fourmula. would this be enough to run this game with these mods and maxed out.
@Megatronicful Unfortunately the architecture of such an old game is unstable and doesn't scale very well. The only bottleneck is the GPU, MGE is incredibly inefficient (and has no choice). I was getting 20-30 on my 5850.. I think you could probably do 40-60 which is perfectly acceptable.
are you playing this on windows 7? because every time i play on windows 7 i get a black box that keeps poping up every 4 secconds. if you know how to fix that can you help me cuz i cant find enything that tells me how
Hey here's a weird question, is it still possible to get these kind of visuals, while still having the water look vanilla? Morrowind's vanilla water always looked really good, imo, something about the MGE water is off-putting to me. Anyway, this looks stunning, thanks if anyone can help!
@TheGorrack Not by THAT much! Fraps only takes off at max about 20-30 fps when you're recording. This means he barely manages to keep a stable 60 fps on a game that is almost 10 years old. Somethings not right.
What do you expect from a ten year old engine looking like this? It's being pushed over it's limits, all these graphical mods are super heavy on system resources because of the game's old engine. He probably has vsync enabled too.
The bad graphics are not "bad", they are old. for what the game is they are perfectly fine. The old graphics gave and still give a nostalgic feel to the game.
.......um, disturbing. Watching an Argonian bash a crustacean bloody while this nostalgic music is playing in the background. The music just doesn't go and the graphics just....I dont know, don't feel right. Just keep it true to its roots.
Hey everyone I know that this could be regarded as spamming but i have just uploaded my first 6 parts to my Morrowind Let's Play and need some feedback so i wonder if someone could or not? Thanks a bunch and sorry if you regard this as spamming!
Wow. I just replayed Morrowind in early 2011 with a huge graphic enhancement pack who's been put offline since. I thought it made the game look amazing. I'm now shocked and wondering what it might look like 5 years from now if the community keep going. Though I agree that it radically alter the "alien" feel of the place, I'm amazed by just how deep it can be tweaked - that's not just Morrowind with grass and lightning, it feels like an other game.
That mod pack you speak of was taken offline because the various individual mod creators threatened the guy who did the compilation with legal action. I think the community is still improving it...
@voianhemsed I know, poor guy was just trying to do good, but I can understand the modders' reaction. Good to learn it might be still in the works though, I'll take a look at Nexus.
The graphics/animations, Npc AI and combat system were the major flaws in this game, but other than that 9/10 Morrowind has always been, and always will be, one of the best games made.
If you have tried this game and think it is bad somehow, download mods for the game, there are countless mods for both morrowind and oblivion.
I would have given it 10/10 but i know everything can be improved upon, like having less cliffracers.
@BobbyVB77 Dude I have it for xbox. It is not good on xbox unless you try being a spell user then it might be alright but the combat system is terrible (this is all my opinion remember)
You know a game is great when people play it almost 10 years later and upgrades the shit out of it, you sure are amazing and this guide has brought me fully back into the morrowind province.
yeah sure skyrim has better game mechanics and graphics but its normal technology is progressing. If we compare in terms of the feeling when I first played each game I'd say Morrowind is the one that took the most hours of my life xD theres just a wealth in Morrowind that was kinda left behind when Bethesda game studios simplified Skyrim for the new players and that's why, in my opinion, Morrowind is the best of the series :)
I think it was the previous graphics that made the game what it is.. I mean yes back then they were considered amazing but due to them not being as good as the likes of oblivion it makes it more... magical
@27cmlang The only thing I hate about morrowind is the retarded combat system. It gets me pissed off to hit someone 100 times and to only have hit 6 times that done about 3 damage.
The graphics look good...but you move the mouse too jerkily for someone trying to show us the views. Think more like a camera man and less like a gamer for this kind of video.
Other than the short draw distance, vanilla Morrowinds landscapes and buildings still look ok, even now 10 years later. But the character sprites look really bad with low quality faces (easy to ammend) and clunky robot like bodies (not so easy to ammend).
looks good but it seems to have lost some of the "alien" feel of the place, dont you think? all the green reminds me too much of the imperial region maybe
@Pasteldqueijo I agree, that's the trees they added. You can skip the trees during the installation of the mod. I got much Better FPS without it anyway
this game along with all elder scrolls looks really good. the reason i dont like them is cuz the combat is so bad. they focused on combat a lot for skyrim and even that is shit to me
True. I always thought the graphics were fine, even in Morrowind. It's the faulty physics (like jumping and staying in the air for 3 seconds) and combat system that needed the most work. Skyrim I'd say is a big improvement, but it still pales in comparison to what it could be. Dark Messiah is a good example of combat done right, even though it too isn't perfect.
This is nice and all, but thats not Vvardenfell. Vvardenfell is a dark, gloomy, war-torn island covered in ash and sludge where there exists no happiness. Having the game like this would kind of ruin that atmosphere.

It's pretty easy to "level wrong" in Skyrim, too. Early on I ground my character's smithing to 100 and got to level 18 while I was in starter gear with combat skills in the 20's.
Needless to say, I had to set the difficulty on "novice" for a while.
And yes, I used mods to achieve Skyrim's leveling system in Morrowind and Oblivion, although I remember the Morrowind one didn't even have levels. They were just simulated to get the game's level based encounters working.
I don't think Morrowind was significantly better, but it was the first. I still remember that feeling after exiting the house at the beginning, and going all "ok, now what", and then my mind was just blown - the music, the villagers just walking around, the trees, the water, and that same feeling again when you realize the size of the game area and just how much time you could spend there. I miss that feeling, now it's just something I expect from Elder Scrolls games.
I don't like using graphics mods for older games like morrowind. Part of the appeal of older games for me is the nostalgic feel I get from playing them. This feeling is undermined by mods that attempt to update what honestly doesn't need to be updated.
If i want sweet graphics, I'll play a modern games. Retro games should remain retro
@Ironzealot7531 That's all well and good in theory. The problem I have with that is when you sit down and try to play an old 3D game like Morrowind, you don't remember the graphics being so bad. That's because they weren't when you first played it. Your imagination was happy to fill in the blanks, and your memory fills in details for you. When I go back and play it, it feels like I'm ruining my memories, which felt almost life-like until I start creating new ones with noticed lack of detail.
@Ironzealot7531 That's not to say I can't enjoy vanilla Morrowind. I feel the modded experience is more in tune with my initial playthrough (I thought the graphics were amazing back in 2002). My mind simply remembers more detail than existed, and with mods I can represent the game how I remember it (even if incorrect). 2D tile-based games do not apply, because that is limited technology and we don't associate those graphics with real life (unlike 3D). They are unique, an art, and are timeless.
@EricMuyser I would like to be able to switch between both but these mods are making Morrowind look really "alive" when it normally looks bleak and dead but i sitll wanna get these
The thing is, graphics were great on my 17" CRT monitor, but now with 24"+ widescreen monsters, the textures look just too low res. About the new games, like oblivion and skyrim, well, they do have awesome graphics, but the gameplay feels lacking to me. I got nothing with older games with more up to date graphics and same awesome gameplay :)
@Ironzealot7531 The only mod I'll ever use is the view distance mod. Other than that, everything MUST be the same. I don't care if the graphics are old, it's the way it was when I played when I was 13/14 and it's how I play it now. Skyrim is supppper awesome n' all. But still doesn't do what Morrowind did for me.
@Ironzealot7531 I never really thought of Morrowind as 'retro', especially not in terms of how it looks. It was ugly even for it's time, people were clamoring over each other with the CS trying to scrub it up, and this seems to be the eventual outcome of that goal. Some people (depending on their age I suppose) see it as a sacred retro game. People like me find it impossible to see it that way (1 console generation old).
@Ironzealot7531 i agree with you almost completly. your first play through the game should be vanilla, so you know what the game was like for people who played it when it first came out. then on your second play through use mods and shit to make it pretty and add functionality.
although, with morrowind, there are quite a few mods that just make the game better, stright up. i wouldnt fault people for using them right away.
@Ironzealot7531 I always feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark without at least a distant land mod on. The close fog is completely disorienting now. It's funny, I don't remember that ever bothering me back in the day.
@Ironzealot7531 And why are you posting this on a video about a graphics mod? If we're watching this, we're obviously interested in the mod, if you're not, then just don't download it. I don't see the problem here.
@Ironzealot7531 - I personally like MGE to see what the modding community is truly capable of, and to see how far I can push my GPU. The choice is there at least, so If you'd like to keep the old graphics, you can. I love the fact that you can choose any resolution :)
@Ironzealot7531 I understand where you're coming from. All those old games I love are always going to be classics, and they were because they were designed excellently. Good graphics does not make a good game (hell, I play Tetris and Minesweeper enough to know that). If the game is good, then a little tweaking of the graphics can only make it better if nothing else was changed.
These comments are absolutely full of nolstagics xD
I found Skyrim to be far better than Oblivion; havent played Morrowind, and although it would run well on my poor PC, from an outside perspective the combat looks awfully sluggish, and Bethesda have made many improvements over the years.
Reminds me of the review I saw of some guy thinking Portal 2 was terrible compared to Portal. Rose Tinted Glasses takes control.

They were just simulated to get the game's level based encounters working.
mirilion79 2 months ago

@EricMuyser

But still doesn't do what Morrowind did for me.
bentastic27 2 months ago
@Ironzealot7531 I never really thought of Morrowind as 'retro', especially not in terms of how it looks. It was ugly even for it's time, people were clamoring over each other with the CS trying to scrub it up, and this seems to be the eventual outcome of that goal. Some people (depending on their age I suppose) see it as a sacred retro game. People like me find it impossible to see it that way (1 console generation old).
TheBreadfan 2 months ago

@Ironzealot7531 Then don't download it then. Nobody is putting a gun to your head.

@Ironzealot7531 - I personally like MGE to see what the modding community is truly capable of, and to see how far I can push my GPU. The choice is there at least, so If you'd like to keep the old graphics, you can. I love the fact that you can choose any resolution :)
DarthVulva 2 months ago
@Ironzealot7531 I understand where you're coming from. All those old games I love are always going to be classics, and they were because they were designed excellently. Good graphics does not make a good game (hell, I play Tetris and Minesweeper enough to know that). If the game is good, then a little tweaking of the graphics can only make it better if nothing else was changed.
