  • Das not Limerick City...

  • Hey, your Yurt is beautiful! I am trying to get together a move to do something similar..I am in NY, so I'm looking to move upstate NY...i totally appreciate you listing the the prices for the yurt and the deck and utilities, its helpful. So, all of the carpentry of the interior of the yurt is included in that 30, 000?

  • @Comrade4Life Yes, The 30, 000 is for everything having to do with just the yurt itself. However be aware that the garage is not ours and so a lot of the costs for hooking up utilities, site prep, putting in a driveway, ect. are not included in that estimate.

  • @DeathMetalDeth

Our yurt cost us $20,000. We paid another 30,000 for the deck, utilities, appliances and furnishings. I have no idea about solar panels and internet access is just going to dependent on where. We have internet access but we are also very much on the grid.

  • Stunningly beautiful inside. I hope to live in something like this one day :) You inspire me.

  • This is a Pacific yurt, yes? WHy did you go with that brand?

  • @the2became4

Pacific yurts had the options we wanted, good customer service, and was able to get it made and shipped to us in the short time frame we needed. We've been very happy.

  • @DeathMetalDeth yeh check them out on real estate section. some have monthly payments but some of the land could be rural it all depends on your needs.

  • @DeathMetalDeth ebay has good deals on land

  • hey dude, awesome home, i saw this a couple of years ago when i checked into yurks. but i was wondering how much all together do have in it? not counting your stuff, just the stuff you needed to live in it. bathroom, the stoves, the basement/garage.

  • @atooltobe

The yurt itself cost $20,000 dollars. All of the wall framing, deck, appliances were another $30,000.

  • This is cool but a wee bit too cluttered for my taste. Something like this it would have to be as clean and organized as possible or I couldn't live in it. lol. I wanna downsize though. I'd really like one of those 100ish sq ft tiny houses... too bad there's no practical place for me to put one or I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Even something like this big would be nice if it was a little more clean/tidy...

  • @PhoenixPhire22 I don't think the place was unclean- really... you had to comment on that?

  • @PhoenixPhire22 : Seriously?? This place was beautiful! Sharp corners and stark white walls might be better suited for you.

  • So is this about 706 sq ft on the floor... does that sound right?

How does it hold the heat in?

  • @patonbike Yeah that's about right. A little more with the loft. It doesn't hold heat as well as a stick framed house, but we are never cold. We keep it at about 65 degrees all year.

  • Very yurty...

  • @procommenter HAAAAAAAA!

  • thanks. you still live in it? what's the life expectancy? what kind of maintenance does it require?

  • what diameter is this yurt?

  • @ipachucka It's a 30 footer

  • what diameter is this yurt?

  • thanks for sharing. very informative for those that are interested in yurts.

  • nice home

  • Do many Alaskans speak Russian nowadays?

  • @andreipetunin Depends on what part of Alaska

  • @benjinds west coast?

  • very progressive

  • more cultural bandits

  • Hehe. Yurt. ^-^ ♥

  • garage in a yurt!?

  • @gizliliman1 garage UNDER a yurt!

  • yurt porn!

  • Can you tell me how your winters worked out as far as warmth went ? Was it a struggle, meaning you had to keep the heat really primed and/or was it a going concern most of the winter time ??

  • @waifer33

We have been able to keep the inside of the yurt at 65 degrees through out the winter, including 2 weeks straight of negative teens. We have a gas heat with a gas stove and a thermostat. When we leave for extended periods of time we set it to 45 degrees and have never had any trouble with pipes freezing. Heat is never a concern; heating bills can be though :)

  • Well, i have a Honda Element and I've been to Alaska once when I was a kid.....I would love to live like this!! So happy to know I don't need a MCmansion to be happy!! Very nice view BTW! I show this video to everyone!

  • Looks like a really cozy place :-)

  • Beautiful home and view you have.

  • Wow so pretty. It must be nice to live in such a unique home!

  • @Ecardz And in such a beautiful place.

  • Great video!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful yurt guys!

  • me and my uncle us to do an alasken camping trip in a yurt for a few weeks durring the summer i always injoyed exploring the woods and fishing

  • Wow, people can start building these because this looks like a really nice place to live in! :)

  • terrific layout! and the wraparound view, cant beat it! are there many bears and cougars in your neck of the woods?

  • Lots of Bears. No cougars. I don't think we have any of those in Alaska. I'm happy dealing with only one major predator at a time. Unless, you count wolves, then we have two :)

  • What a great home you have we run an Eco resort in the canary islands and are just about to put up our 8 th yurt it is the same size as yours! It looks massive if you look at lanzarote retreats on YouTube you can take a your. Thanks for sharing your yurt.

  • wow nice place. and a gorgeous view and property.

  • wow thats awesome. How much it cost ?

  • I would imagine 15,000 for the yurt alone. All said and done with the 3 door garage around 40,000

  • Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I didn't see this comment until now. The yurt itself cost $20,000 dollars. All of the wall framing, deck, appliances were another $30,000. Pretty expensive but it is a pretty deluxe yurt interior. We don't own the garage so I can't comment on that, but I'd guess around $100,000. Alaska is a very expensive place to build and there was a lot of extra work getting the property suitable for construction.

  • @benjinds still live in it ;) 20,000 for the entire thing huh :O

  • how big is this yurt in diameter!?

    thx

  • It is a 30 foot yurt

  • so thats a 31 foot right?

  • I sure wouldn't want to have to get up in the middle of the night and climb down those stairs to use the restroom.

  • Two words:

    Chamber pot :-D

  • It lights up nicely.

  • Thanks for the tour! I lived in a yurt for 5 winters, the wind is never an issue, it simply goes around, bypassing gracefully. Have you found that?

I loved living in it! Even when it wasn't above 0 for 7-10 days. We had 9 in our 'village.' One was above a square space like your garage. Perfect arrangement! Cozy in the loft, too!

Was yours a Pacific, or did you DIY?

How long do you expect yours to last? Is it your permanent home?

    Thanks for sharing!

    Happy yurting!

  • You got yours from Pacific?

  • Yes, it was a Pacific yurt. I am on the East coast so will go with a pre-fab from with the NH or the VA company. I like the looks of both. I've decided on a 30' yurt in red. Will spend the winter dealing with zoning issues and finding land with water and sewer hook up...would prefer grey water. Are you living there a long while? Continue? How's it holding up?

  • Great job.

    I am happy for you.

    thanks for showing your home

  • So cool! I have never seen a yurt set up like that (on a garage). Awesome job and thanks for showing us.

  • What state do you live in that the powers that be don't have you executed for living in temporary shelters? My job allows me to live anywhere I want, but where i live isn't very green friendly. Email me? Thank you sir.

  • great yurt Ben

    thank's for the vid

  • how do the yurt deals with strong winds?

    thanks

  • how do u get electisty in yurts

  • You do it much the same way you do a regular house. The conduit goes in through the bottom of the deck and into the yurt floor. We put many of our outlets flush with the floor. Our lights and fan have outdoor flexible conduit running to them. Let me know if you need more help.

  • Are you on solar of regular electricty how cold is it in the winter time or is heating the yurt okay? How do you put it ontop of a garage??

  • We are on regular electricity and heat by a gas fireplace. We had about 3 weeks this past winter where it held down in the negative teens but we were able to keep the yurt at about 65 degrees. send me your email if you want more info on putting the yurt on a garage.

  • Fantastic!!

  • Amazing pad!

  • Ben, your yurt is beautiful and the view is amazing! Cheers!

  • hello friends....thanks so much for posting this inspiring video for us to look into....we will be yurt living in washington state within the year....and me and my wife do like the garage with yurt on top....and it looks like someone already asked the question..regarding the floor/roof that the yurt is on....what about water runoff, etc....in other words exactly how is this set up put together....my best friend is a prefessional framer and he is going to help us with this gig.....

  • I have the same exact question! Amazing property!

  • seattle washington? if so what are the building codes like for that?

  • I am looking into building a setup for my yurt just like yours. Exactly how did you build the yurt on top of the garage? What kind of floor/ceiling is the yurt resting on? Any other building tips would be great.

  • I sent you a note via youtube. Just e-mail me and I'll send you some info.

    BEN

  • meant to say where did you get the "loft" from, you built it or purchased pre-fabricated somewhere?? I cant find lofts or plans for them anywhere

  • Yes, we built it on a garage. The ground by our yurt site is really wet, so there is a lot of frost heaving that goes on that can break up your floor supports. The loft is something we built. We just put up some internal walls with a lid, just the same as a house except not attached to the exterior walls. Let me know if you need more info.

  • So the yurt was built on a garage??? Also where did you get the left and bedroom from, custom built or you purchased from manufacturer?

  • thanks for posting this vid! I love seeing people who love yurts, I can't wait to get one someday.

  • It is a 30 foot yurt with 6 1/2 foot walls

  • We actually live in Alaska Just outside of Anchorage. We are gearing up for winter now. We bought ours from Pacific Yurts and we highly recommend them.

  • You have a very nice set up. Where are you located(what state)and who did you buy the Yurt from? Just wondering becuase I am moving to Alaska and my wife and I want to live in a Yurt.
