  • Thank you very much for this presentation! I've been observing hummers for years and years, and always recognized the sounds that were coming from feather vibration during the mating displays- and thanks to you, all my questions are answered! Really- brilliant research, and presentation... Thanks again!!

  • thank you chris for the unnecessary but yet very interesting information

  • amazing

  • That is really cool. I don't recall ever seeing an explanation HOW the tail feathers make the sounds. Sort of chops the air like an old mechanical siren.

  • wow, that is beautiful ~ very interesting sonic study ~ intriguing

  • Hey that's cool I make sounds out of my tail too!

  • Great video!! How many more amazing abilities do Hummingbirds have? The list is endless!

  • Wait a second where did he get all these feathers from?

  • @azNephi over the past several years I have personally worked with all of these species in the field. So, the feathers are from my field work. Hummingbirds are protected by law; in order to do my research, I apply for research permits from government agencies, such as the US Fish & Wildlife Service (for species in the US)

  • What instrument do you play in the band?

    Me?

Why I play the feather :)

  • Great post Chris! Very clear and interesting. Thank you!

  • Great video Chris... give my best to Teresa and Anand!
