@holstlog7791 - Sorry. We do not have or plan to have a "prostaff". I figured before I ever started the comemrcial side I would have tons of people wanting free baits. Because bait making is secondary, and my true passion is actually fishing I decided that publicly verifiable youth fishing clinics, and local level pro am (draw team) clubs would be the only place we put out product for advertising and promotional purposes. As a small bait maker I can't even support all of those.
@holstlog7791 - I am pretty much tapped out for this year with obligations for a local group that does open youth fishing clinics, and a local Pro Am club. Maybe in a few years when we have actaully made a few dollars from actual paying customers for baits we might be able to expand our donations. Its funny. In the first month of turning the website on I had 58 requests for free product, and 3 paying customers. LOL.
@holstlog7791 - yumatackle(dot)com I was originally only making molds and baits for myself, but I had a lot of requests so in December I setup and turned on the Yuma Tackle Co website.
Hey man great video, i do hand poured molds and i wanted to get into injection molds because theyre alot cleaner looking, what are the best websited to get them from and for how much? Thanks again
@ffhs88 There are lots of commercial mold makers. I like Jacobs Baits, Bass Tackle, and Bears Baits. It is much cheaper to buy a mold they make and sell to everybody, but of course other people can make the same shape as you. Still there are guys running small tackle businesses with all small production modls from these guys. If you want custom original (not a copy. Not a ripoff. Not a barely changed) then I do some custom work for people. I do charge a premium and more for design work.
how much do u sell your molds for? im interested.... also where did u get that injector havent seen one like that yet they usually look very ugly and cheap the one u use almost looks medical grade... have u done any two color molds with that type of injector?
@rickhorror Hey Rick, I don't do production work so if you are just looking for some basic molds to get started, Bass Tackle, Bears Baits, Jacobs Baits, Caney Creek, or Del-Mart are probably the place to look. I have purchased some supplies from Bears and Bass Tackle and they are pretty quick. Caney and Del can sometimes be slow from what I hear. I do 2 color laminates with a Bass Tackle twin-jector complete kit. He injectors are nicely made. Running out of room. More in next reply.
The injector in this video is a Cabelas meat injector bought cheap on ebay to get started. Cut the needle off and drilled out the tip. It worked for a while, but an injector from the guys I listed is much better. I also make my own injectors on my lathe now. I make my own molds on highly modified Taig CNC mill, but I only rarely do custom work for other folks. I only do custom which I charge a premium for. More if I have to do any design or CAD. I never do "can you copy" requests.
If you want me to do some custom work for you (and you aren't in a restricted nation) drop me a private message via you tube and I'll give you contact information where you can send design specifications. I have not done lots of custom jobs, but I have a few all over the world. I have a small machine, and it may take me some time to clear current jobs off the machine. I only do custom, so the wait may not be as long as other custom makers. Some stuff I may not be able to do.
@rickhorror - I do make molds for other people, but only original custom work. I charge a premium for it, but those who have gotten molds from me seem to be satisfied. Almost all have me do additional work. I try to do a very good job, and they say I deliver faster than some of the bigger mold makers. If a request starts with, "Can you make a bait like...?", my answer is, "buy one of their baits."
@rickhorror I do two color in several of my molds. I use one of Kevin's Bass Tackle two color injection systems. I've made several of my own injectors, but his is a nice clean system for two color that works for under $200. For larger production volume Bears has a 2 color semi pneumatic system, but its about $5000.
@rickhorror "That" injector was a meat marinade injector that I modified. It worked ok for a while, but I think you would be happier witha Jacobs, Bass Tackle, Bear's, or Del Mart injector.
Nice video! One question tough. I wanted to buy a mold (of a toy or anything else) to experiement with various methods so I searched for a used mold but they were all very expensive (500$+). Do you know where to buy one? Preferably a place that ships internationally. Thanks!
@jonhdoe1395 Not sure where you are going. Usually hard plastic injection molds (toys) are a very fine finish and that requires a lot of machine time and a very precise fit. Machine time equals money. Also, injection machins for hard plastics like toys are going to run a lot more than the mold. Even used. For more drop me a line at Bob (at) yumabassman (period) com. Usually new contacts go to junk mail, but put MOLD MAKING in the subject and I'll see it.
P.S. I have made a number of molds since I posted this video a year ago, and I have learned a lot including some things that are wrong in this video. How many people (drop me a message or post a comment) would like to see a video of going from a crude sketch on paer to a finished bait and maybe even fishing with it? I've been planning the idea, but it will probably take some time to produce.
@TheAustinWalls - That depends a great deal on the size and efficiency of the mold design. Multi cavity tend to be slightly more efficient. Also, its going to depend a lot on how you utilize your sprues, how many molds, you have, and how you melt your plastic. I can remelt in the microwave 3-4 times before the plastic starts to smell and change color. In a presto pot I can shoot until the pot is to low to draw any more into my injector. Still have issues with too much remelted plastic.
If you are thinking about profitability. I did some math a while back. At the price for one gallon you break even unless you are making something nobody else has either for yourself or that you can sell at a substantially higher price. At 5 gallon prices you can make money at the same price as most other sellers even after paying your excise taxes. If doing a fair amount 55 gallon barrels are the way to go to maximize profits. I don't currently sell, but I buy 5 gallons at a time.
@TheAustinWalls - Ok, the dumb answer is one really big worm or thousands of tiny worms. With no particular worm or mold in mind there is no good answer. I can get about 15-20 decent 5" grubs out of a cup of plastic if I stretch it and understand that last few will discolor and smell if microwaving. Not If I have more molds and can shoot the entire cup all at once I may get a few more. If I work with a larger quantity, more molds with more cavities, and use a Presto Pot I am more efficient.
@TheAustinWalls - So anyway. My first answer was 100% accurate based on the information you provided with your question. "I just" and "I only" is a red flag to me telling me that its a waste of my time to actually try to answer your query thoroughly. I did answer your generic question with a thorough answer.
@TheAustinWalls - And I answered you. Quite thoroughly. However you on the other hand are both mentally and socially inept by your own clear and demonstrative behavior. Even after you showed to everybody your incompetence to understand the basic concept of variables to such a generic question I took an extra effort to explain to you how many worms you "might" get out of a gallon. Instead of recognizing the effort I took to educate you, you responded like a little spoiled child.
@TheAustinWalls - I do suppose that expecting you to figure out how many cups in a gallon and do some rudimentary math was a bit optimistic given your previous attitude and behavior.
I must also revise my answer. "How many worms will 'you' get out of a gallon?" Most likely none. Its highly unlikely you will ever earn enough money to buy a gallon.
Hello I am Brazilian bass fishing a little time to do mine like bait, looking at the video ever made rubber molds Some typical usage is not good that she is cold-molded and is not equal to the mold.
you could pass me what kind of rubber do you use?
much obliged
if you have curiosity with these bass fishing canoes I built my channel is pintordeavioes
@pintordeavioes - Most of the worms in that video are shot using Calhoun Medium Plastisol bought from Bear's Baits. However, I have found I get a noticeabley better results from M-F medium plastisol. I get it from Fishing World.
@bassmasterclassicman - I make my own. I've got a couple desktop CNC machines and I design and cut them myself. I've also done a few custom designs for small comemrcial bait makers.

Hey I might start pouring small scale should I put Pam on my plastic mold andd after I take out the bait I put It in water for two hours to take the oil out than add salt and roll it around or no salt and roll around right away ? Plz reply thank you and nice video
@fishingdaybyday PAM is not needed with aluminum mol,ds for plastic. Neither is immersion. They come out of an aluminum molkd cooled and almsot ready to fish. Salt is usually suspended int he plastic for weight and to change the consistency. I never understood rolling the bait in salt as it all washes off the instant the bait hit the water anyway. If you really want to ask some knowledgable gusy about pouring and injecting baits you should join the forums at tackleunderground (google)
@thefishmaster100 - I made all the molds in that video except the little curly tail. I have since made my own curly tail molds, as well as several other molds. I've got a couple mini cnc machines I program to cut the molds.
I have also made half a dozen custom molds for other bait makers. A couple are in small scale "commercial" production.
@vipersd13 - If I was in the bait business I might, but it would have to be a careful process. A tremendous number of people would only want the free samples never planning to buy. Zoom never sent me a free sample. I write articles giving honest opinions. Daiichi gives me a few hooks hoping if I have their hooks I'll write good things about them. Stanley gave me a big box of baits for my fishing club, in exchange for taking their prostaffer out before a big tournament on my home water. etc
@vipersd13 - I am considering starting a bait line later. Maybe in the spring. Maybe next year. I will probably have a sample pack of some kind available, but it would be more along the lines of a one time discounted purchase with an array of baits and colors. Right now I am not setup to handle everything to do it. Even selling the baits I already make is a headache, because of the excise tax payment and reporting requirements.
@vipersd13 LOL. Samples of what? May home made baits or my home made molds? I'm not currently in the bait business, although plans could always change.
This is great. Where can I learn to make the molds-looks like it requires a lot of skill or metal work knowledge? Where do you buy materials for this kind of project. Thanks for the cool video. Well done.
I wonder if you sat the injector in front of a blow dryer for 10 minutes before injecting if if would save you the 1 step of suckin the plastic then spitting it out to warm the injector, hold a blow dryer on your hand for 1 minutes, it gets pretty hot if its 1 inch away :)
@Mikeandwendy74 - You are correct. Several of the guys on Tackle Underground say they prewarm their injectors. Heat gun (over powered hair drier), hot plate, and toaster oven or devices they list. In addition most of my aluminum injectors tend to plug up if I warm them the way I show in the video with that stainless plated brass one.
Thank you. Except for the small curly tail mold all the molds in this video were made on my Taig 2019CR rigged for CNC with Mach 3 driving a DeepGroove controller and 280oz stepper motors.
