The truck door being open was a moviemaking blunder and not part of the story.
The driver dies, IMO. There are a few seconds of footage after this clip when the interior of the cab is shown, and what I believe is the driver's blood is shown dripping off the steering wheel or the gearshift. We never get the satisfaction of seeing the driver, but we get the satisfaction of knowing that he got what he deserved, whoever he was.

the driver was played by Gary Loftin (or Gary Lofkin) and he may- or may not- have been shown sitting at the bar in the cafe scene.

in the movie, you are let to think that the truck driver died, but you can see the drivers door open when the truck fall...
