Different Culture different Mindset, the people here don't mind being crampt and up close for a while as long as they get to thier destination on time.
I feel bad for the people next to the door because it must hurt for people to force you into a train jam packed with people... Actually I feel bad for anyone in that train because you're either going to suffocate or get pinched by the train doors.
Public transit is definitely one of government's responsibility, in any country. I don't know how politically conservative you have to be to deny funding even for something like this.
whem I said "capitalism is capitalism" it doesn's meant that I am capitalism lover ... In opposit, I think that some strategic infrastructure shoulb be public, like transport, for example.
@muffingirly you have to push your way through, but usually the people standing inside the doors will be kind enough to get out and then get back in after. I'm a bit claustrophobic so I had some issues with this when I was in Tokyo haha.
@muffingirly You push, shove, barge, elbow, and pray to God. All pretences of Japanese politeness go right out the window here; getting off the train is just as violent and uncomfortable as getting on.
The reason why it's so full is that this is the second-to-last train for the evening. After this train, there is only one more train and then no more trains until 4AM. That's why these people are sacrificing comfort to ride this particular train.
@supnoKirani because this i think is better a japan or a korea with low birth rates, some people must stop talking about how bad is the low birth rate when to countries like japan or korea is better have less people than more in relatively small spaces,by the way i love japanese anime and korean dramas, and i think is an exaggeration the bad things with the low birth rate,to me is worse by far the high birth rates

the main problem is that these lines are private, for profit businesses. What i don't get is why the government doesn't heavily subsidize it.

Tokyo Metro used to be semi-governmental til 10 years ago.
the Tokyo Metropolitan Government also runs subway lines such as Shinjuku, Mita or Asakusa...and also buses.
But commercial operators have taken a big role in Japan's transportation systems since the early days...dont know why.
