  • This song takes me back to my youth and learning karate from my Oriental neighbor (who was also our janitor) in the apartment complex where we lived. Just my mom and I! Those first couple of weeks were rough after the move from New Jersey!

  • @jrshapiro classic lol

  • this is vagine of 80's thank you

  • Daniel San!

  • This song reminds me of the day I got my first masters of the universe figure as a kid in the 80's. =)

  • awesone song back then and still awesome today ....

  • wow....just wow...and not so much in a good way. I had forgotten how horrid this video was...wow.

  • Loved it in the 80's and in 2012...............

  • @1:15 bump!

  • Keren Woodward the brunette is just super sexy

  • @lannlann She looks even hotter in their remake of "More More More."

  • it appears in Karate Kid Soundtrack! :D

  • The 80s was the last decade of decency but yet people still had lots of fun.

  • @1966ahotstinker4u The 90's weren't half bad either, but when 9/11 hit, it's like EVERYTHING worth something was flushed down the toilet by those in charge...

  • @1966ahotstinker4u and a LOT of sex. But I've come to think there has ALWAYS been a lot more sex than people let on. If anything I think they have LESS sex now - in high school anyways. At least that is what my 17 year old son tells me, but then, that's what I told MY parents....

  • I love this song but they got the album wrong it wasn't on Deep Sea Skiving it was on their self titled Bananarama album

  • OMG - gas was only $1.48 a gallon! The good ole days!

  • @ProfessorCDG1906 , In 1988 gasoline was only 91 cents a gallon. I would imagine it was below 70 cents when this sing came out.

  • The 80's sped by out of control. Fun times (and looks) often do. Dammit.

  • Oh god! When i first saw this video, I guess I was 13, I had such a crush on those 3 girls, damn they were hot! (Actually they're still not too bad now!) Funny, 3 girls i went to high school with reminded me of Bananarama, Ha! Those were the days!

  • damn! things were so great in the 80's--this song was so great in The Karate Kid

  • @3pojawa9 Agree! I think of Karate Kid every time I hear this song.

  • I used to play this record EVERY morning before I went to school. Yes, I said record. :-O

  • Suspender's, Nice! Cruel winter here with gas near 4 bucks a gallon.

  • Nice!

  • I will give 1 million dollar who send me to 1986 when I was 13...

  • Not sure which is more surprising: that girls who weren't anorexic could get a recording contract or that gas was only $1.48 per gallon.

  • Ah, the 80s. Where did they go?

  • @spitharoo Yeah, I'm with you there!

  • tits

  • Very nice video. Good memories

  • I will go with the 80's group. We left it for the 90's too soon!

  • The great thing about music videos is in the end all the belligerents get together and dance!

  • This song still makes me feel bad for Daniel for getting into that scuffle and getting kicked off the soccer field.

  • @truesockhead Poor kid was just trying to fit in and have some fun :-(

  • If you were alive during this time, you'll recognize a strong "Dukes of Hazzard" / Smoky & the Bandit influence near the end (same time period)

  • this may be in HD, but the sound quality suck-ass. try again.

  • You know what would be really funny.. Have Stallone play the truck driver. Then have George Micheal play the cop! LOL

  • 1.48 per gallon for gas! Did you see that in the beginning of the video?

  • @MichelleNJ1975 Wild thing about it is that was for FULL SERVICE!!!!!!

  • @EmpireTower LOL, that's incredible!

  • @MichelleNJ1975 My first real job was at a full service filling station in 88. It was a cruel summer to say the least. I think everyday was about 100 degrees out here in Wisconsin I had to wear a dark blue shirt and pants. You get the idea. Get a hair cut get a real job. lol

  • @MichelleNJ1975 Heck, I got my drivers license in December 1971. I could fill up my Pinto (10 gallons), pay with a 5$ bill and still get $2.40 back in change!! Those were the days

  • im a 90s baby but man i bet the 80s was cool.. now our generation is messed up callin girls bitches and girls acting like whores..i dont kno what else could go wrong

  • @troy8168 Pretty sure there were bitches and whores in the 80's too bro

  • weres the karate kid brings back loads of memmories best time of my life the 80's best girl band

    in history

  • Comment removed

  • I think of Roscoe P.Coaltrane and J.D. Hogg during chase ;)

  • All my summer's are cruel!

  • this is my moms fav so cause when she was a teenager her mom and dad (my grandparnets) would leave at home by her self and take her brother on vaction with them and she wasnt allowed to have friends over but her friends still came over.

    it was a cruel summer!!

  • Old enough to remember it - contemporary popular music of the highest style.

  • this sounds like a knight rider song

  • @ferraribbi Yes, this is absolutely true. I would gladly give up all these things for a one-way ticket back in time. Oh yeah(almost forgot), then I could watch & listen to this(& other great tunes) on MTV again...cuz it wouldn't completely suck like it does now!

  • Hmm.....when I watched this video as a kid, I never noticed the similarity in choreography and wardrobe with Come on Eileen. What was it with huge overalls and skipping in the 80s?

  • @Bocasean

If you've ever served in the military that little skip they do with the feet is called "change step"-- when you walk in formation its used to switch legs or get in step with everyone else.

  • luv this song lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • american coppers were always dancing about in pop videos in the 80s, no wonder america had so much crime back then.

  • I was an 80's kid...please let me go back!!

    3:26....Erie, and sad.

  • THIS SCHOOL SUCKS MAN, IT SUCKS!

  • @hypehoops Have a nice trip??

    hahahaha

  • Whay NY cop wears a cowboy hat?

    McCloud?

  • @ferraribbi However we did have the threat of nuclear war hanging over our heads. Maybe, thats why we had fun instead!

  • Love it, Love it, love it, I close my eyes and I can still smell those beautiful 80's summer days, how I soooooooooooooo wish to go back to such a remarkable time :( :( but I unfortunately have to live is the shitty shallow greedy times we have now

  • @DarrenFromEngland Just keep in mind in 25 years you'll look back on these times with nostalgia too - getting old sucks!!

  • Bananarama = a poor man's The Bangels = a poor man's The Go Gos

  • @Friday131969 Not exacty. I've been a fan of all three you mention for 30+ years and I'm not exactly poor thanks to trickle down economics of the 80's & 90's. During that period, for every $1000 corporate made, I could make $100 for my hard work & creativity. Today, my share might be $5 if I'm lucky no matter how hard or long I work due to greed at the top. Have you ever heard of a CEO exporting his/her job to a foreign country in todays business world?

  • working with the bananarama, where is the cruel summer?

  • sono tre fighe...

  • Shiobian!levis when they did not have any for a bitch

  • gas was 1.48?

  • they are not lookin sexy in this video

  • Man,they are beautiful!

  • I guess 36 people didn't like the fact these women actually still had clothes on. Everyone knows you have to be a pole dancer in today,s videos.

  • @MyBayouCity

Unfortunately, that is the way it is today. Sad.

  • they looked like they were having fun and not taking the video too seriously. they acted like girls. how about that, and it was appealing.

  • @MyBayouCity aint that the truth, the mases have been brain washed into loving a slutty pop culture.

  • it is clear that these girls' fruitarian lifestyle paid off when it came to the police chase. let this be a lesson to us all.

  • @ferraribbi Very true, very true, I miss 80' so very bad...if I only could have a time machine, this is where I would go!

  • What a great forerunner of the infectious Stock-Aiken-Waterman beat that would later rocket an irresistible, pint-sized, antipodean, singing budgy into the most popular and greatest live entertainer, spinster showgirl of the modern era. God created Kylie. Thank You, God.

Notice the price of gasoline in NYC.

  • I have a time machine, it's called a media player. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to physically get into it yet. It just keeps playing things from the past. I'll sell you one if you like?

  • Besides this song is from 1982. A year before Madonna's debut.

  • If i could turn back the time...

  • I loved this song when I was a teenager and I still like it.

  • Madonna clones

  • @runningshoe1 No, if you want to get technical, Kim Wilde clones. Much like Madonna is.

  • This school sux man it sux!!

  • If anyone builds a time machine back to the 80's hit me up I'll be the first one in line...

  • @FireitupBedford sign me up too!

  • @FireitupBedford I'm right behind you!

  • @FireitupBedford If it's me then it will be a free ride. I'll even let you choose the date as long as it's the 80's. Peace!

  • @FireitupBedford right behind you. and its gotta be shot in NYC!

  • Love this song. It always makes me think of The Karate Kid. The original of course.

  • @DarthSasquatch

    yeh me 2.

  • now i wana watch blue crush a gan

  • They're all beautiful, but the blonde one is just... Whoa!

  • @Stroija Thats Siobhan Fahey and if you havent seen their 1998 Bananarama + Siobhan Fahey - TFI Friday interview on Youtube, she is the ultimate flurt. I would have melted interviewing her.

  • fair job, I like the tune, I like the lifestyle.

  • I missed the 80's

  • great location, Brooklyn!

  • Music has always been a mood altering experience for me and this song and video has been a favorite. It's high positive energy is like getting a set of fresh batteries. IMO, the video represents don't take life and responsibility so seriously paralleling the plot from Ferris Buellers Day Off. Its a mystery to me how these three girls fully clad in baggy coveralls are loaded with sex appeal. Maybe its because unlike todays videos they leave something to the imagination in their presentation.

  • Man I miss 80's girls.....the feel of bush on my upper lip....joico and freeze hairspray in their hair scraping my cheek or cheeks...ahhh the memories.

  • Ahhh remeber NYC before welfare recipients and bankers took it over watching this

  • しかし良い曲だ。涙が出そうなくらいさ

  • it,s more to it than simply being cyclical i,m 34 and i like 60s 70s and 80s from country to RandB but the last 20 years of music has been shit i like good music made by people with talent nowadays it,s soulless music made by soulless people

  • Curl Curl Summer the 'Phi' eh in art science and nature .It's a crul curl summer IXOYSIGMA Geophysics IXOYSIGMA e i phi +1=0 square roots of -1 phonetic metaphor error and the personal equation

  • Great song

  • when NYC was fun..

  • The bassline sounds like a robot farts.

  • Sure brings back memories...great tune. thanks for posting.

It WAS indeed a Cruel Summer

  • PLEASE READ THE MESSAGE IN MY PROFILE...

  • women in large groups are dangerous

  • Gasoline 1.48?!!!!!!

  • I find it hard to believe they'd be washing cars with all that make-up on :>) LOL ... and if it's that hot they probably have bad swamp ass

  • Super gay switch got flipped "on" at 3:09 ... HA ...

  • Did you see that gasoline price? Under $1.50. WOW. That is when I started driving.

  • porky girls

  • @MrNachoman22 They wore really baggy clothes then. I don't think they're as porky as U think.

  • @issallido about MrNachoman22, he may be used to seeing the sticks that perform today

  • everytime i hear this song i automatically think of the Karate Kid. when he rides his bike to school. i always loved this song. i was 9 when it came out.

  • Now we dont have good songs like this <3

  • oh man this song has my age and still awesome

  • lipstick & dungarees, good show!!

  • $1.49 a gallon? Shit was expensive in '82.

  • @bobbeedigi I noticed that, too. I looked it up, and a gallon of regular gas in 1982 averaged $1.30, so the price in the video is a little high, but still not farfetched.

  • It was indeed a Cruel Summer because I will never be that young again.

  • Greetings from Polish

  • Being a tween/teen during the 80's opened me up to so many different genres of music and I'm glad for it. Today I still enjoy r&b, pop, gospel, rock, reggae, opera & classical music. This is one of my favorite groups from this era & totally agree with others that the videos were so much more innocent & fun then.

  • I still LOVE THIS FUCKING SONG and I always will!!!!

  • i wish everyone in highschool listened to this instead of the rapping crap about getting money and cars.

  • the early days of music vidios, their the best!

  • Simon Bates played this on the Golden Hour today along with Waiting For A Train (Flash & The Pan), Africa (Toto) all from 1983, a great summer and happier times, all great tunes all sounding different and not a manufactured band in sight, a totally Cowell free zone.

Looking at videos like this and others from the early 80's one is reminded of much more innocent times. The world we inhabit today seems like an alien unfriendly place.

    Happy days!

  • @keijak1 People then said the same damn thing you just said. People 20 years ago will say the same.

The idea that the world is more innocent yesterday than it is today is simply an illusion based on your age and growing cynicism. Based on your logic, today is crueler than the vietnam war? World War 2? The Gulf War?

No, of course its not. Regardless what you may think, there has NEVER been a better day to be alive than TODAY.

  • @cyberslick18 Did you experience the 80s? Of course they were more innocent, no mobiles, no internet, no PC mind bending, Facebook etc , and you think that things like that make today better?

In 20 years of course it will be said that the 10's were more innocent, because they will be, but what's to come will be a damned site more sinister than what is going on today.

Remember this is the 80's we're talking about not the 40's. And that still doesn't alter the fact that todays music is tosh.

  • @keijak1 People in the 80s said the 60s were more innocent. People in the 80s said new electronic dance music was trash and that the stand up singers from the 60s were way better.

Every generation has said the previous one had it easier. We live longer than in the 80s. We cure more diseases than the 80s. The standards of living across the globe have raised almost universally since the 80s.

There is no better day to be alive in human history than now. You are wrong, and I am right.

  • @cyberslick18 That may be true, but morals went down the toilet.

  • @keijak1 In the 90s everyone said Nirvana, Green Day, N Sync and Britney Spears were just main stream pop trash, and that stuff from the 80s like classic rock was way better.

Now go to those videos, everyone is saying how much they love 90s mainstream and how shitty todays music is. It's a never ending cycle, and if you can't see and understand that, you are way, way too immature to be on the internet.

  • @cyberslick18 Most people miss being a kid. Life was easier and when you are young most kids are way into music and movies. When you get older hearing your childhood music brings back good memories and positive feelings of a simpler happy time in your life.Youre right it is a never ending cycle.I was born in 75 so i,m partial to the 80,s and early 90,s.my parents hated the hair metal of the 80,s and their parents hated the beatles and elvis.

  • @TheCopperchopper sir, a well founded point subsinctley put. Well done.

  • @keijak1 How very True..I miss the 80's.

  • @keijak1 lol

  • Gas at $1.48 a gallon? That was a kind summer!

  • 33 people must've had a cruel Summer!

  • Hmm...look at 3:25...Twin Towers! RIP

  • @IloveyouLenaKatina

They couldn't have even dreamed of the fate of those buildings. Very sad.

  • Look! A music video where the girls dress like normal people instead of sex symbols. Amazing!

  • quand j'entends ce titre il me donne envie de danser.

  • Best time of my life

  • Not only were these girls hot,but they always seemed to genuinely enjoy making videos and always had fun with it.

  • The 80's are so in today

  • =)

  • UHH, LONG LIVE KARATE KID!

  • $1.489 for gas. The music was better too...
