There is something fundamentally flawed about the concept of an SUV drag racer. Jeeps are made for boulder bashing, plowing through deep snow, off-road wilderness camping trips. They were never meant for speed. Low ground clearance is all wrong for off-roading. If you want speed, get a Corvette. A Jeep dragster is some kind of mechanical freak machine. Very weird.

Every where they went they would have the SRT-8 haul the photo equipment to take pictures of other cars that didn't have the room. My friend drives a SRT-8 magnum, kinda same idea. A few weeks ago we helped another friend move some stuff to his new apartment so the back was full of boxes then blew the doors off a WRX on the freeway that wanted to race. It's an odd combo, but nice to have.

@buttnut1080 It's supposed to be fast not capable offroad, and it does just that. I have the 98 grand cherokee with the 5.9 magnum. In it's day it was one fast suv. It is still fairly capable offroad but who cares. It has shorter suspension so you stick to the road better. Remember these are heavy vehicles. I didn't buy my 'niner' to offroad with. If I want to offroad my yj 4cy with low gear ratio and 33's do just fine. I've got all the torque I need.
There's no point in spending 45 grand on a 'fast' suv. It may indeed be quick off the line but they should not have made it street only. I would much rather have a challenger srt8 for the same money. That's just as fast and a lot cooler.

I have ridden in both and raced both at the drag strip. The SRT8 hands down will win. Stop or from a roll. If the STi has a perfect driver it may win to 30mph but the SRT8 has so much power.
Don't get me wrong guys,the SRT8 is fast,yes it may be faster than a STi,mustang or camaro,whatever,but on a track the jeep SRT8 has no chances,its weights is as huge disadvantaged & even though the low profile stand helps the cherokee stick to the ground at 70MPH you can feel the truck pulling away due the G force.

yeah it is kinda ugly but it has the ground clearance it needs so it'll be a real jeep. the current Grand Cherokes--even the non-SRT-8 ones--don't have good enough ground clearance. I just remember 3 years ago I went to the Washington, DC autoshow and Jeep had an obstacle course with a bunch of wranglers and one cheroke (that you could ride in) going around it. The cheroke had a big chunk of the rear bumper torn off because it was too low to the ground and to handle one part of the course
btw I posted a video a couple of months ago that I took riding around the jeep obstacle course i talked about earlier. I think i shot it about 4 years ago. the video is pretty jerky (it's hard to hold a camera still going around this thing) but its good enough. The course is pretty cool (i can't think of a better way to promote jeep products) so you should check it out. just click on my username to get to it.

I have ridden in both and raced both at the drag strip. The SRT8 hands down will win. Stop or from a roll. If the STi has a perfect driver it may win to 30mph but the SRT8 has so much power.

Don't get me wrong guys,the SRT8 is fast,yes it may be faster than a STi,mustang or camaro,whatever,but on a track the jeep SRT8 has no chances,its weights is as huge disadvantaged & even though the low profile stand helps the cherokee stick to the ground at 70MPH you can feel the truck pulling away due the G force.

Very nice. I almost picked up a new one instead I went in the opposite direction and got a 370Z. I like the Jeep SRT8 a lot, just hated the resale after three years of ownership in relation to the new purchase price.

I hate the direction Jeep is going in. They're starting to make Jeeps that are increasingly less off-road capable. I mean The Jeep Compass and Patriot are both jokes. They don't deserve to wear the trailrated badge. However this is the only soft jeep (if you can even call it that) that I have no problems with. I want one in my driveway. I can't afford the gas but I might just go for it because I'm beginning to question the exsistance of these types of cars in the future. It may be my last chance

yeah it is kinda ugly but it has the ground clearance it needs so it'll be a real jeep. the current Grand Cherokes--even the non-SRT-8 ones--don't have good enough ground clearance. I just remember 3 years ago I went to the Washington, DC autoshow and Jeep had an obstacle course with a bunch of wranglers and one cheroke (that you could ride in) going around it. The cheroke had a big chunk of the rear bumper torn off because it was too low to the ground and to handle one part of the course

btw I posted a video a couple of months ago that I took riding around the jeep obstacle course i talked about earlier. I think i shot it about 4 years ago. the video is pretty jerky (it's hard to hold a camera still going around this thing) but its good enough. The course is pretty cool (i can't think of a better way to promote jeep products) so you should check it out. just click on my username to get to it.

why would you buy this when you can get a base cayenne for the same price? the cayenne v6 has a higher top speed, and is much quicker around the nurburgring even with about 140 horsepower less. it goes to show that power is nothing without control.

perfect sedan huh? so thats why it has horrible wheel hop when you floor it off the line and feels like its ripping istelf apart, had the ac break at 9,000 miles, snapped a motor mount, and has had 2 rear differentials, not to mention all sorts of bugs with the electrics from the sunroof not wanting to close, to faulty passenger airbag codes. It is fun and looks good, but FAR from perfect... the new one, different story. My viper remark was that you claimed no American car can go around a corner
