  • These are originally Gurney because the old elevators surrounding these are original Gurney, and i don't think they put two new elevators in with 1 gurney on the left, and 2 on the right. these were definitely identical to the old gurneys, and marcato/mainco/TK (one of them) updated the cabs, controller, fixtures etc. on these 2 and put them on another controller, while leaving 3 of the gurneys for service/employee use.

  • the old elevators are Gurney (an old NY local brand) and are labeled so. They are active and CAN BE USED, and they have the dead man's control crank. one is parked on the main floor when i went but i couldnt find the others, and a guard was standing next to the entrance next to these. i will try again on a less-busy day, maybe even get the freights.

  • @ih8thyssenkrupp also we still dont know what the 7th ave. portion of the building has, and the freights in that part have security doors and this part (Gurney) has peelle, so there will be a brand difference for sure, especially since that portion opened at a different time. there are no manual old passengers like these in the 7th ave. building that are out in the open either. i will try and get both wings for the sake of the brand and time difference

  • @ih8thyssenkrupp : Well, you got kicked out of Macy's Herald Square? If yes, briefly explain the reason why you got escorted out of the store.

  • I don't think 4 door elevators are rare for Macy's. They are pretty common for Macy's.

  • The 9th floor looks a little creepy, especially with those old express elevators. The store, from the videos, to be very "vintage."

  • I'm from NY and remember when those elevators used to be local in the 70's (when I was growing up) and each floor had (and still has) the hallway you saw on the 9th Floor. The elevators are now covered up on most floors, however you can see the entrance for them on some floors.

The elevator cabs and controls were recently upgraded as the floor indicator used to be on the top and the buttons used to be higher for all of the floors--LL - 9.

  • @glenk002 The elevators are still there, yep. We call that area the J-Well, its where we hold certain stock, rods and some of the emergency staircases are there.

  • I thought you were SchindlerHaughton until I saw the name. The local elevators look nicer.

  • They fixed up the local elevators better (in the 7th Ave Building) as those elevators are used more. The Express elevators in the Broadway Building, are kind of hidden and up until recently were closer to the way they looked back in the 70's when I was growing up. There is another bank of elevators in the Bway Building which are covered up & have not been used for years. If anyone is interested, I can tell you more about them.

  • can u do another vid of the old ones i might be able to find some info

  • Im back in El Paso. Those old ones you saw don't work. On the first floor beside the express elevators, the doors of the old ones were open. There was a lot of freight inside them. They were restricted.

  • ohh ok i'll see i might be going to nyc someday and i'll be sure to film them

  • Otis.

  • Your brother was just helping. Tell him NOT to talk before you start filming.

  • Sure thing. I will do that next time.

  • I mean he should do what he did. It was actually neat seeing it that way.

  • I think these are Otis elevators.

  • Otis modernized by Mercato. And fyi I filmed these also.

  • That's correct, and I too saw the video.
