The game generates the minefield after the first click, so you can never die in the first turn.

btw: A higher difficulty will increase the frequency you'll have to gamble, but it's possible to make a calculated guess. A strategic use of the 'question mark' can increase your chances when you've got an unsolvable field.

IT ISNT. its programmed to give you a free click and also open up a cleared area so you can actually play. and at 1:54 you can only do that if the numbers surrounding that are all ones. i am very good at this game and i will say that this tutorial is mediocre

in first 2/3 games all mines are on left hand sides and to the right, taking that smiley face to be an imaginary midline OK. If you play non of the above works, it requires time + experience. One more tip is that restart the game.

2 things:

1) You never hit a bomb on your first turn. If you use a debugger, you'll find that if the first square you click is a bomb, the game moves that bomb to (1,1), effectively guaranteeing you never get a bomb the first time (unless 1,1 is also a bomb, in which case you have horrible luck).

2) You can also click the right and left mouse buttons simultaneously on a square, and then the game will automatically check whether the square you clicked on has its conditions satisfied or not.
