  • too much coke....*SHHHHHTTTT*

  • Prince wrote this song, he was very upsett with the TIME for quitting & leaving his label. So Prince decided that he's gonna write a song about those suckers for leaving. The quote: "I'm going 100MPH that's the golden rule, I'm much too hot to be cool!! ( that's a dig at Morris Day ) that was the beginning of BEEF!!

  • @arventino2000 WRONG DEAD WRONG PRINCE DID NOT WRITE THIS BROWNMARK DID AND BROWNMARK PLAYED ALL THE PARTS I KNOW CAUSE I WAS THERE MARV GUNN AND BRUCE WHO IS TONY CHRISTAIN NOW CAME FROM MY BAND THE US BAND DO YOUR RESEARCH BUDY

  • dances just like the artist from that era

  • Gotta love the 80's even the men had big hair.

  • It`s still makes me shout- ray

  • Very cool,I remember this...

  • A real band!!! Wish those days would come back.

  • 1:08 THE DANCIN' LADY GAGAS LOL

  • prince use to practice in his basement .And prince used to live with him. (fam)

  • this song is all PRINCE!!! Everything but the vocals

  • @kevjev i read somewhere that he didnt like the way they was playing so HE got in the studio and played ALL the instruments...DAMN he flaky but if he can play them all, more powe 2 him

  • @elimdeyonkersny They werent part of Prince's groups but were formed by Mark Brown who was the bass player for the purple one. They were all from local mpls groups that played the local circuit. They were hand picked by Mark for his project. Its a shame they never made it past the first album. I used to play in a band in mpls with Craig the guitarist for this group and knew all of the guys from the band, Jerry Hubbard was from the Time was in the group too, man I miss those days Mpls sound 4ever

  • @JoeBlacksRebelSoulTV HEY WHAT UP YOUR RIGHT I USE TO PLAY WITH MARV AND BRUCE WHO IS TONY CHRISTAIN NOW AND THEY ARE BACK TOGETHER NOW THE MARARATI'S THEY ARE CALLED THE SECRET NOW AND HOW IS CRAIG DOING I PLAYED WITH HIM A FEW TIMES HE'S A GOOD PLAYER ALSOIT'S BEEN A LONG TIME

  • That's the kind of funk I used to love. I stopped listening to funk music when the Minneapolis sound whent out of fashion and was replaced by the insipid rnb soup we hear everyvhere now....I miss old funk rock, it was creative.I'm into Industrial and aggrotech ever since.

  • Prince funked the shit outta this song

  • @allstar720 you're part right i only recognized brown mark the bassist ,that's why i wasn't sure.

  • Was this group part of Prince's many Group's? like The family,New power Generation Etc.

  • lol is that fancy Ray i see in this video???

  • @anjelphaze That shit is too funny

  • Problem is that nobody can perform prince songs better then prince..

  • @DoveNiki So true!!!

  • @DoveNiki Amen.

  • These guys were very good, but you cannot replace the time! Thats how they came to be.

  • Hey every 1 my name is Blu Casey im the niece of Terry Casey(lead singer) i have been answering all his fan mail, for him lol

there doin really well and they miss all the action of performing ,lol i tell my uncle they need to get back on the road, he just smiles , i have met alot of his fans over the years and i show him that you guys still play their music, I want to tell the fans , you are not forgotten.

  • I like this base too, why have I never heard of Mazarati until now?

  • Yeah... the Minneapolis music scene was HOT back in the 80s. This song from Mazarati was just one of a number of successful artists - Prince, The Time, Wendy & Lisa, Vanity 6, The Jets and LIps Inc. That was just R&B, there were other greats like Soul Asylum, Husker Du and Information Society.

  • @TheRs07

You forgot the legend Alexander O' Neal.

  • Bring back the glam funk!

  • got Damn ! GR8T !!!

  • this use 2 be the song back in the day, good driving song.

  • The lead singer grew up around the corner from my family super talented crew

  • hard that Prince didn't like the way they was playing this in the studio so HE played ALL the instruments, thats some finicky s*it 4 ya

  • WELL SAID CLLAMONT

  • You gotta just miss the fact that these uys actually PLAY! Damn, back then you couldn't just buy a program that does allof your guitars, bass, drums etc. You had to PLAY that MF to get your props! I think the only band that still record is MInt Condition and The Roots. It's a shame that R&B has come to this :(

  • @EndreGiovanni5869

if you do your homework... the mplsound funk recordings had ALOT of drum programming. Technology will always be a new way to explore music, but there are always people playing it for real nowadays too as a reaction to that.

  • Yeah back in the 80's and 90's The Look was a must! A TeeShirt and a Nappy Head would never get you a girl nor club Fame. Living in Cali at the time and have long hair(with The Look) and DJing as well as being a Jock. I lived a guys Dream, met lots of women from all races and all over along with Artist. Some of the Best fun I had in my Life. Wish the Videos were better Quality.

  • I wouldn't even LOOK at a guy back then if he didn't look like this!

  • Don't ya just love all the crackling on vinyl... I've got all Prince's, The family, WendyandLisa,The Time, and do I dare say Vanity six & Appolonia. Love me some Vinyl

  • I've got this on Vynl

  • @rayzencent VINYL STILL IS SO IN TOO ME! LOL

  • OMG!!! AWESOME!!!

  • the riff at the beginning and at the end is off the hook, i have the lp version of this song(like over 7 minutes) and the riff is twice as long and twice as funky!

  • The 80's was off the chain, This was my record back in 1985. All these Prince produced groups was hot. I used to watch this video on Video Music Box in New York City. It brings back memories when i went to Boys and Girls High in Brooklyn NY.

  • I'm surprised Prince ain't yanked this one off and sued everybody. That brother is wasting his time and money with these stupid lawsuits. The only lawsuit he should see through to the end is getting his masters back from Warner Bros.

  • none taken lovechilld4life,but anyone that is a Prince fan knows that these guy's were his protege's....even he has said that..so it's not new news..

  • I'm sorry but these so called bands today can't hold a candle to groups like these guy's and others like them in the day...today ALL of them as far as I'm concerned are boring..ok so you had a so you have some dance steps..big deal!!!!!the stage and lights are more appealing..and they're all carbon copies of someone else and wudn't know old school funk if it slapped them...give me this kind of band and music ANY TIME!!! I have no need for Chris Brown or any of them...they suck ..nuff said

  • you are so right! things got really bad after the 90s.

  • @basskiller42 Why bands can't hold a candle is because these guys were really living the Funk lifestyle. Look at them! They weren't created by marketing teams in conference rooms. They were different! If they were stylized, it was from what they were living and a bit from Prince and Brownmark. They also played their instruments and DANCED at the same time. They were full on showmen and had that Funk way of doing it.

Also, this is one of THE most overlooked songs about CARS ever.

  • @wendileona

You are so right, no American Idol BS, or image makers finding clothes for them, I remember reading an Interview with Wendy and Lisa being asked about their clothes and they said 'they live this lifestyle" unlike the rappers, rockers and so-called r&b acts of today.

  • No offense... But, this is a carbon copy of PRINCE... Since he wrote it... He also gave them the song "Kiss" but, he took it back

  • they was wild as hell

  • 1st time hearing this song...soooo damn funky!!!! I think I'm in love, hahaha.

  • Glam Slam!

  • Great song.

  • DAMN !!! After all these years I can't get over how funky this joint was. I was playin' this LOUDLY in the car the other day. Sounded GOOD lol !!!

    "Everything On The One !!!"

  • Pearls before swine...LOL...lead singer is rocking those pearls! LOL...DIAMONDS AND PEARLS! Doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl..>!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Best dollar I've ever spent

  • the drumer is my step dad

  • I totally ADORE this group. And the song...

  • i c a couple of lady gagas in that video :)

  • PLEASE! Lady Gaggag is so fake and such an attention whore. You can tell when someone is truly different or just putting on a front. Her VMA performance was a joke.

  • thats not what i meant...!

the blonde girls in th video! the style!

LG is a litle copycat...does one have to be all serious and clear all the time:)

  • Oops///sorry. :)

  • Every now and then I hear how this group is getting back together, I guess its all BS. Too bad. I really enjoyed them..

  • Oh how I love Prince fans.

  • This bad-ass band should hve got more Play!? Great sound! Good Eye-Candy0_0

  • these bros kicked ass they played a local club here in nashville..sorry to those who missed it. why can't we have bands like them anymore?I'm a bass player 4 a local rock band and would give ANYTHING 2 form a band like that, make up and all...lets bring back tha funk n fun

  • @basskiller42 Yo Im with that kid.Im that type of artist.I got a couple of acoustic performances up but will be putting some traks and slyde shows up soon. Most people are afraid to do that right now but Im not.

  • @THELIKWIDLIGHTEXP that's what I'm talkin' about...I have NO fear..performers are supposed to go beyond the norm, that's what makes us who we are and what get's the ppl's attention,as well as kickass songs..maybe we can bring it back.I'm 44 and refuse to stop fully entertaining the audience.Band's that were over the top is what I grew up on!..lookin forward to hearing yur music

  • This group is very good! I wish they had more mainstream success.

  • Well Prince took the song Kiss from them & used it himself.

  • Actually, Prince wrote "Kiss" for Mazarati but then took it back for himself.

  • True. Mazarati did sing the background vocals.

  • prince didnt take the song, they didnt want it after prince changed up the song. After hearing their work on the demo, Prince took the song back, added a guitar break and his trademark falsetto vocals and released the song on his Parade (1986), where it became a No. 1 hit single and Grammy Award winner.

  • Hey the reunion of MAZARATI at the Cabooze in Mpls Mn on June 5, 2009 was said to have all the original members,,,, all but the best drummer,,,

    (California Kal)

He did the best solos at the Bowery Club in Mpls. Kevin what happened to you???

He was one funky white boy,,,,,,,,,YEAH BABY

  • Prince created this sound,he is like God.You can't take away the fact they would not exist without him.Get over it.Jesse Johnson is great but he did not have the guts to do his own thing at the time.He hesitated and he used Prince as a booster to his own talent.I love you Jesse but please tell these people,Prince is the creator of all that is great in music today.

  • I agree totally

  • but you see thats the problem..i mean i hear music today and its as if the 80s had no barring at all..rap took off and the days of loving the people who play great instruments and that crative pocket seemd to just dry up...i dont know if anyone really rode princes coat tails..im sure he did it to help out fellow players but im sure prince got paid for all that..I love him to..price is amazing..but he is so amazing that its going to be impossible to match or bring that electricity back

  • I agree with you on that. It's not about the music anymore, but just the image of the artist regardless if they have talent or not.

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • You should hear Mazarati's version of KISS.......thicker funk than Prince's version. I guess he took it from them.

  • i remember dressing loke this during the 80s and having all the ladies this video was one of the baddass love this group

  • Prince actually wrote and produced this. Just like with all his side projects. He did the demo (all the music and lyrics himself) then told them to sing like it like he did.

  • Thanks to Brown Mark (another Prince protege) for producing this group! Mark...Where are you?!!?

  • I do not know where Mark is but I am planning on marrying Kevin Patrick

  • Muito loco o cara ai é metozoico

  • As much as I love PRINCE if he gave me songs and got 'em back just 2 give 2 someone else (himself included) after I worked my ass off 2 perfect it and put my own flavor 2 it I'd kick his azz.. That's the ugly side of the music industry. I love U MAZARATI.

  • I'm surprised no one slipped with all that Jheri Curl juice dripping.

  • The vocalist sounds just like Prince

  • this song is hard as fuck

  • shoulda gave the stewardesses more play doe

  • nice pearls...dude

  • back in the day funk ok kiddies slide and let the old school funksters show you how it's done

  • I didn't know this was a girls group.

  • ha... that's messed up.

  • damn---that much for one song?hellnaw

  • i still don understand what the lead singer is saying---the music it self is cold blooded

  • check my link ..... i have loaded the long version & printed the lyrics so you can see 'em .... peace

  • Brownmark actually discovered the band and Prince gave only ONE song for their album: 100mph...

you can found a bootleg version with Prince on vocals(AWESOME!!)

it's one of hundred marvelous songs never released by Prince...

    one day,maybe....

  • Actually Prince wrote them a few other tracks BUT took a few back for himself & The Time ...... Even took two from Apollonia 6 & gave 'em to The Bangles and Sheila E .......

    ( just info for ya ...... )

  • I never heard this song, but the funk of the times, got prince all over it. Great sound.

  • Wow...I still have this cassette tape!

  • One Of The Baddest & Funkiest Outta Minni. They Were The Sh*t "LIVE".

    Prince Shoulda Kept Them Together.

  • Anybody have any skills at getting a CD of Mazarati (other than getting it from the idiot that wants to sell one for $159 on Ebay)?

  • Serious flashback

  • Mazarati actually sings background vocals on KISS!

  • Casey Terry

  • err... no, they don't.

  • uggh - yes they do. Check the liner notes!!!!!

  • Please allow me to retort. Prince DID NOT DISCOVER MAZARATI. His band member from the REVOLUTION named BROWN MARK did !!! I did my research. Brown Mark discovered MAZARATI. MAZARATI was badass !!!

  • man I love this songs I used to listen to it all the time when I was younger!

  • sorry melvincorbino but, you are wrong. Prince wrote the orginal ACOUSTIC version of "kiss" then gave the song to Mazarati and David Z (who was their producer at the time) and turned it into the "Kiss" we all know now, Prince heard the version David Z put together and liked it, so he took it back.He gave Dazid Z a engineering credit, but David Z is the one who really produced the song.

  • Shirts versus Blouses!!!! Pancakes....

  • This song is mad sleazy....I love it lol!!!

  • contrary to popular belief Prince did not write "Kiss" Terry the lead singer in Mazarati wrote "Kiss" and Prince took credit Mark Brown a.k.a. as Brown Mark discovered Mazarati and as usual Prince took that over too...how do I know because Jerome Woodson was the bass player in Mazarati and his brother Keith Woodson played bass in Tamara&The Scene and both of these cats are my patnahs...

  • can anyone else hear prince's voice in this, he sings the coris with like 3 other voices. i know prince didt allot of writing for him but i guess he also sang back up on some tracks.

  • actually prince only wrote "kiss"-"jerk out"-and "100 mph"...the rest brownmark did for them..technically it's brownmark's band...brownmark went to highschool with all of them...there was actually another bassist in da band but he got kicked out before they signed with prince....at paisley park...peace

  • a little bit, but not as much as u can hear it in Jesse Johnson's "I Wanna Be Your Man" posted by "jwdawg77" (checkit out & see if u can hear what "i" hear!)

  • There's a demo with Prince's original vocals instead of Sir Casey's.

This kids...is TRUE FUNK. In the video, them cats, that right there is Funk.

    Learn

  • Iam sorry i dont understand what your saying.

  • Damn I used to dress like this !!! That's ok though. At that time the honeies loved it !!! Mazarati was the shit but nobody can beat Wendy and Lisa !!!

  • the prince era... did they all have to look like him..well i guess its no different that hip-hop..grillz and bling, bling. WOW

  • Prince's version is better.

  • I used to have this one vhs. It used to make me laugh, but I would always watch it when it came on.

  • I miss the days when I was young and we looked like this. We got called fags by the jocks but macked all the chicks because we were sexy and cool and had the courage and style to look like Prince and Mazarati.

  • Feel your pain. I lived in BALTIMORE and had to fight Yo boys. Remember, Baltimore is one of America's murder cities. BUT, I have a lot of girlfriends, including my now wife who met me when this song came out.

  • LMFAO @ 1:20 B^))

  • It sounds a lot like Prince's version, both ROCK!!

  • I have the version where Prince is singing, brilliant.

  • Holy COW!! I never did get a chance to see this video back in the 80's -- THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this!!! I totally LOVED THIS SONG!! I think I wore my cassette tape thin at this song I replayed it so much! The 80's were AWESOME!!!

  • Prince was the producer of this group also, CAN YOU HEAR THE PRINCE SOUNDS IN THE GROUP. I love the group this was one of PRINCE backup musician. LISTEN TO THE GROUP PEACE.....

    I LOVE THE 80'S .

  • prince produced this sonng...brownmark this was his production for the most part

  • Yep. Mazarati sang backgrounds on Prince's "Kiss".

  • They also have a demo version of "Kiss" done by Mazarati. Check it out.

  • i have a demo of Prince singing "Kiss" & playing some very elementary chords on an acoustic guitar. the story "i" heard was that "that" acoustic demo was handed over 2 David Z. (from Prince) 2 do some additional programming & production 4 the "Mazerati" project. after David Z. was done & Prince heard it, he liked it so much he kept it 4 himself & let Mazerati do the backup vocals.

  • I always loved this band its sad they didnt go farther

they were hot a black rock/metal band

  • mazarati was tight back in tha day

  • I miss the Minnapolis sound! Music of today NEEDS this sound to return!

  • prince is gonna release a record called MPLSound...he said it will be highly electronic...i think this should do the job!

  • For real? That's awesome if Prince decides to follow through on it! I'm still waiting on Prince to make true on his promise back in 96, for him to release the Immaculate Collection. It was suppose to be a box set of his concerts on DVD (from 1999-The Gold Experience). But oh well, how did you come caross that info of the MPLSound upcoming release?

  • I recorded this on BET years ago myself, but now the tape is fucked up unlike my others and I could not upload it. Thanks a lot for the upload.

  • During the recording of the album, the "band" was actually Prince, Mark Brown and the lead singer. Thanx for posting this.

  • That's exactly what I heard!!

  • yall correct me if i am wrong. but was'nt this the first black heavy metal band. never mind there was a few whites. but i had heard for all intenside purposes it was considered the first black heavy metal band. am i wrong?

  • Mother's Finest, Xavion, Band of Gypys, WERE playing heavy rock before Mazarati

  • the question was BLACK heavy metal band. are these black groups?

  • Yes and had been playing this music before Mazarati. and also in L.A. Stone Vengance who has been playing metal for nearly 30 years MF for nearly 40.

  • There was a black heavy metal band that they used to play on BET's "Video Vibrations" in the early 80s called "Xavion" and they had a song called "Eat Your Heart Out". 1984 to be exact.

  • I HAVE MAZARATI 1 & MAZARATI 2 CD TRACKS loaded on my link just for ya'll HARDCORE MAZARATI FANS ..... ENJOY THE RARE / COLLECTOR'S : MAZARATI 2 ...... i'll post tracks periodically from both CDs as well as others ..... ENJOY !!

CLICK MY LINK AND ENJOY ....... will have MAZARATI 1 & 2 CDs ... all loaded soon .... YES THERE WAS A SECOND ALBUM : MAZARATI 2 released 1989 on Motown ... they pulled the project before it landed in the US. Only 12" singles came out then they buried it ....I HAVE IT ON CD & WILL LOAD IT !!!

  • how come they pulled it the 2nd? i heard some of the it, they're good songs. i dont have the original debut album, but i got the songs on my mp3, along with some unreleased stuff.

  • Motown signed them for the 2nd album since Paisley Park only had a one album deal so BrownMark moved them to Motown. BrownMark wrote & produced the entire album ( with some production by Bernedette of Klymaxx )then Motown pressed releases in Europe & Canada first. The album wasn't grabbing attention as the first album did w/ Paisley Park so Motown looked at the numbers & freaked out then shelved it weeks before US release date. NO issues w/ BrownMark as some think - THATS FALSE. HE WAS PISSED 2!

  • oh, i see now. thanks!

  • there was this song i could have sworn mazarait sung it...it goes..."now it's raining tears so cold, i don't want to let you go, i don't want to let you go, can't you see that i want you so, there something that you should know, i don't want to let you, i don't want to let you go" sounds familiar to anyone?

  • fonkey! These guys are working that jerry curl!

  • You really went school with Brownmark, Romeo, and Casey Terry. Are they still in Minneapolis? Why did Brownmark shaft the group?

  • I don't remember their exact phrasing...but it had something to do with money. I guess Brown Mark got greedy.

  • ...and I don't live in Minnesota right now. But, I think they are all there. Another interesting note...Jerome Woodson's brother Keith, another classmate, was the bass player for Ta Mara and The Seen...don't know what happened to him.

  • Jerome Woodson aka "Romeo" the bass player of the group is a classmate of mine. He and Casey Terry told me in the early 90s that Brown Mark...also a classmate...shafted the group shortly after the release of their 2nd album...similar to what Jesse Johnson did to his band.

  • apparent;y prince wrote all dis shit

  • this was the jam for a minute back n the day. very funky.

  • Here's how it went: Mazarati was formed by Prince's former band member Brown Mark, Mazarati was signed to Prince's Paisley Park label. Prince was approached to do "Kiss" but turned, when he heard Mazarati's demo of the song he took it back and left their background vocals.

  • Hey, in 01:58, the guy in white, was that Jesse Johnson playing guitar? Great song and wonderful album!

  • It's not Jesse on guitar, I think every band in Minneapolis adopted his look at that time! Prince wrote this, the singer is called Sir Casey Terry. Great, great single.
