@topikauppinen it COULD not even be. Any true fans here? :) Original C64 URIDIUM always took veeeeeeeeery long until you got the "Land now!" order. This delay is much less shorter in the animation. :)
This clip though just 3D video is amazing and I would be taking this to Coktel Vision the company that bought Mindscape . Well done I think, looking at your showreel your already working fulltime in 3D
Haha, if only it'd looked like this back in the day. I think you'd be looking at a frame every 30 seconds if it did though. Brilliant game at the time. Alleycat was cool too especially for the crashing into the ground explosive effects. If i remember right braybrooks games were all pretty good. I never did get morpheus as my dinner money never quite reached the slightly fatter price tag it waved. Could only starve myself between being kicked in for being a computer nerd for so long ;)
And do you know what? When Anrew Braybrook made Morpheus, he actually put an enemy in there called a "Uridimine": A reference to the homing mines of Uridium ^_^
Now that I think about it, this game has a silly plot... you've got this space station that clearly doesn't like you, and then you land and they give you a bonus!!! wtf!!!
Ah, doing a bit of research I think you might mean the gameplay controversy! It was very original, but definitely not for everyone, I liked it for the feeling of experiencing something different, something I'm always on the lookout for. As for the publisher, it was Rainbird, who were good at promoting alternative type games.
Fantastic game, though not his best (that award goes to Paradroid), or his most unique (I'd give that to Morpheus). Perhaps his coolest and most exilerating, I still love it to this day!
Morpheus had the most contraversy around it for sure. was it hewson or rainbird putting it out? hehe.. but yer braybrook/turner were kick a** game makers and graftgold did some spot on conversions. It's a shame they didn't continue today, they did original games.
I'd agree with you, Cosine they were some of the best, it's a real shame they aren't making stuff for the latest consoles, it could be amazing. As for the controversy, wasn't aware of that- sounds like there was a royalties issue going on there? I know not everyone liked the gameplay- having a ship take up most of the screen was certainly a bit odd. The whole thing was just so intriguingly different- one of the last great 'programs' on the C64.
I've never been a fan of 3D games (mainly First Person Shooters) but I ponder that Uridium certainly would have benefitted from an isometric remake...
Hmm....[ponders the idea]...ah, that would be Zaxxon, wouldn't it?
This is simply fantastic! A great job, great re-imagining of the game. I know it's just a video but this would be a fantastic starting point for a new 3D version, would go down well on next-gen download services. Not sure who owns the rights anymore, but whoever does should take note...
Bought Uridium years ago on c64 it was by far the best game them (most arcade like) I then bought an Amiga which was graphically a lot better but not as good as the hype. I always said I would but a new games system when the grapics really were good. I have bought a ps3 in March and I would highly recomment it. Graphics are brilliant as is gamesplay.
Maybe, but I'm not the games expert that you are. So when I play this, this is usually where I'm headed-one mistake can end your go faster than you can say "Uridium". Anyone see what I mean?

I remember the first time I saw this for the c64. I was awestruck at the 3d and the ship flipping as you turned directions.

OMG! How Great Is This! That´s exactly how i wanted uridium to be like, when i was playing it as a kid.
If you want, i can produce a new soundtrack (a remix of the original music) for this clip. let me know !

"Classic C64-shooter REVISITED."
Note the word "revisited". The C64 can't handle powerful 3D.

But the sound chip was a pretty advanced one back in the 80's for a home computer.

why was that in 3d? the c64's wasn't like that, has it been tampered with?

c64 was 3D, but 3D chip was disabled by governments in case hackers used it for...hacking.
