Most people who roll over their kid or smother them usually have taken or drank something that lessens their awareness of the baby. I co-slept with my son because I'm breasfeeding and I need my rest! When he is in bed with me, I sleep in one position. If I want to sleep in any other position, I move the baby out of the bed. If I want to sleep with the blankets around my shoulders, I move the baby out of the bed. If I have to take cold medicine, i definitely DO NOT sleep with the baby in the bed
I just have to say to all the parents who bed-share...YOU ARE INSANE!!! I know that babies can die alone in their cribs with nothing around them, no blankets, toys ect ect...but at least mom or dad or big bro/sis isn't gonna smother the baby by rolling on them or as a case I know of, move their arm JUST right while holding their baby close and just a light but very bad outcome of a wrist on babies nose/mouth was the end of that precious angels life. I'll never co-sleep. NEVER EVER EVER!!!!
None of you who think that co-sleeping is safe know the facts. I'm part of a county review board for a major city. We get all of the facts on these cases, where babies suffocate. An adult's weight can cause the mattress to sink around them. Babies roll into the adult, into a pillow, or between the bed and wall, often face first. These young babies who can't roll themselves can easily suffocate. Or kids who snuggle infants in their sleep and suffocate them. IT HAPPENS!! AND IT'S PREVENTABLE.
such a joke, really. I've co-sleep with all my 3 children. Breastfeeding mom cant live without it. Being safe about it, is important. But is amazing and normal.
"remember, babies Sleep ALONE" damn that's harsh! how about all over the world where they definitely do not sleep alone, it's not even an option and I am sure most wouldn't even be interested in taking up that option.
This ad is just like the new one in Indiana right now. Fear mongering like this is sick and unneccessary, though this is less sickening than the one on air in Indiana right now... it is still just a horrible little video. Agencies need to stop using their authoritative voice to mislead the public.
there should be a new campaigne to bring back the name that SIDS used to be called. "CRIB DEATH" because that's where babies die, alone in cribs. not in beds in between loving parents. my twins co-sleep and won't have it any other way.
We co-slept with baby #1, #2, #3 and #4. They now all happily share a room.
I sometimes hear: "we only share a bed when we travel". I guess that they don't recall.
Advice: 1 - put baby in crib for the first part of the night 2 - transfer baby when he does wake up (3:00?) Bonus 1= ease of nursing! Bonus 2 = well rested mother.
Once, while visiting family... baby crawled up in his sleep and got head under the headboard: mattress too soft! Yikes!
Why couldn't they have put out a PSA on how to SAFELY bed-share.
I hate that the government gets involved with what people do in their own beds, it makes me angry.
It would be nice to see them at least talk about the differences between co-sleeping and bed-sharing, since they are not synonymous, and how to do it safely, ie not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. With a firm bed, no pillows, without extra heavy blankets etc.
Knowledge is key, not scaring people into ignorance.
babies sleep safest in the arms of their mothers. SIDS, flat head sydrome... when will we learn, obviously not in a hurry with this kind of crap discouraging natures way
Isn't the incidence of SIDS higher with crib-sleeping? This video is a shameful crock of crap meant to scare parents from a perfectly safe and healthy family choice, and will have the (hopefully) unintended consequence of leading many breastfeeding mothers to unnecessarily wean their babies early. What a load of crap.
Happy co-sleeper here! We have our 2.5 year old and 15 month old both in our bed and absolutely love it. Babies do NOT sleep safer alone unless they have irresponsible parents who do not co-sleep safely.
My brother died of SIDS sleeping alone at the sitter's. My sister and I both survived co-sleeping with our mother. And I personally believe that co-sleeping has saved the life of my 6 month old son. He has a seizure disorder, and because of co-sleeping, we know when he seizes in the middle of the night. People have co-slept since the beginning of time, and will continue to do so. PSA's about safe co-sleeping practices would save more lives.
This campaign is based on such poor "science." Cosleeping is how babies sleep best. The important factor is ensuring that families do so safely. SIDS rates are lowest in nations where infants cosleep, and highest in nations where we crib-sleep. It's not a coincidence.
This is a pathetic attempt to scare parents. Most of these accidents involve substance impaired adults. Family bed is a healthy tradition that should be supported.

This is just plain false. SiDs happens when babies sleep alone. Co-sleeping reduces risk of SIDs, as mothers breath acts like a pace-maker

So wait...this is just a scare tactic?! I saw a commercial like this and it's still stuck in my head! It's just so depressing!

What complete and utter bullshit.
How many babies die alone in their cribs? Talk about ignoring a bigger problem!
If you are co-sleeping intentionally and safely, co-sleeping isn't going to cause your baby's death.

The baby industry is like the marriage industry: they tell you that you "need" stuff that you don't really need (matching bridesmaids anyone?)
It is so much easier to change a baby on a bed, a sheep skin or even your opened coat on the floor then it is on a changing table.
Who enjoys falling asleep sitting while nursing? Oww. My neck!
Nursing in my own bed (once baby was 3 months old) was more relaxing + no transf. baby to cold crib. Some babies wake up tfor company, not milk!!

Umm right. I can guarantee you the rate of infant deaths was a heck of a lot higher for crib-sleepers than 43! I love co-sleeping!!!
