They're both fought from the same perspective, both use similar attacks (in both cases represented by rocks and fire), both are beaten by aiming and throwing objects into the background, both get closer to you over time, both shrink the platform you're on, and both give you an instant game over at the end if you don't finish them off quickly enough.

No, they're not identical, but there's definitely a lot of inspiration.
