Cool video, but one part of the description is inaccurate. Nieuports didn't suffer lower wing failures due to the strut design. They had lower wing failures because the lower wing used a single spar which allowed the wing to twist far too much under heavy loads.

wasn't that the Nieuport 17? That one was so successful the german plane developers had one captured example studied and copied.
